Too scary for literotica?

First off, I'm new here, so hi!

So, I wrote a story as a request for an online friend of mine (I'm a new convert from fanfiction.net!). It's pretty edgy, I must admit, certainly not to everyone's taste, but that's why it went in the non-con section and had tags related to the... fairly scary content.

I've had several bits of feedback from people who want me to die, often in imaginative ways. They told me they voted it down not because it was written badly, but because it gave them nightmares.

Now, I'm not sure what to do. Delete the story and just mail it to my friend so he can show people when he wants, so I don't have to deal with this but lose the credit from the people who do like it, or leave it up and just ignore/delete the bad comments?

Here's the story for reference - ***It contains non-con of a male, it's pretty nightmare fuel-y and it doesn't yet have a happy ending***

almost all of Lit's "non-consent" stories are horrible tame, i think.

Have you tried this one? Maybe I've seriously misjugded my audience if most of the non-con readers here are into fluffy handcuffs and pink blindfolds... Eeek :s

sorry...zero interest in a male being the submissive or victim.

Considering the story revolves around a magical object, I'm willing to bet that you'd get a better reception -- if a smaller audience -- in Sci-Fi&Fantasy. A lot of people in the non-con section are probably getting thrown off by that.

Non-Con, Loving Wives, and Interracial Sex are also amongst the top categories for hate-filled feedback. Unfortunately, there are quite a few people in those categories who will follow you and send nasty feedback on every story you write once they see one that tweaks them.

I've written some pretty dark stuff that hasn't raised many eyebrows in the Fantasy category. The only problem you might have is that the narrator/protagonist is the dark character causing the distress. That's going to make it a tough sell for a lot of people in any category. You can abuse the hell out of a character, as long as the abuser gets some come-uppance in the end, or perhaps the victim turns them from the dark side.

Another option might be Erotic Horror, though what you have so far doesn't quite meet my personal bar for that. ( Readership opinions may vary ) They don't balk at magic or fantasy like most categories do, so at least that part should be no problem.

You're also walking a tightrope with any non-con story. Lit has a loose, unstated ( to the best of my knowledge, at least by the powers that be ) rule for non-con stories. Lit accepts rape fantasy stories, but not rapist fantasy stories. Once you go over the line of glorifying the rapist too much, you're risking the rejection stamp.

Mileage of that "rule" varies according to category, but that's why so many stories in the non-con section are considered tame by a lot of non-con readers. Darker stories actually have a better chance of making the cut in horror.

Is it too dark for Lit? I don't think so. I just think that the magical angle of the story trumps the non-con part, so far as category goes.

i have to disagree with something here. i HATE when the author turns the story around and either turns the tables on the abuser, or makes the victim suddenly love it all. Totally ruins the story for me. There are a FEW good non-consent stories on Lit, where the bad guy(s) remain bad guys, the girl continues to suffer...and all is right with the world. THOSE are the stories that make me wet :)

Thanks for your feedback! It's very useful. How can I go about getting the catagory changed?

The only other problem is, I've written a follow-up where Sam's 'training' as a pet begins. So can I have one part in Fantasy and the other in BDSM?

If that magical ring is still involved, I think that trumps pretty much any other activity in the stories. I've written lesbian scenes, group scenes, gang bangs, non-con -- even MM scenes ( with a warning at the beginning of the chapter on that ) in Fantasy. It's one of the few categories where any sort of coupling is acceptable, so long as it's built on a fantasy base, which yours is.

As far as changing the category goes -- copy pasta time! I keep this around for when any editing question comes up.

Here's the editing method for Lit.

  • Take note of the Lit ID# of your story/chapter. That's the number appearing at the end of the URL in the address bar of your browser when you view the first page of your story.
  • Start a new submission.
  • Use the same title as the original ( or as much as will fit ) plus something such as *EDIT*
  • Fill in the same category, then fill description and keywords with placeholders, as they don't matter. ( Unless one of these things are what you're editing )
  • If editing the story text, paste/upload the new text in the "story text" section. If editing anything else, copy the "notes" section detailed below in order to fill this section.
  • In the "notes" section, say what you are editing. If story text, then put that. If title, then put the requested NEW title here. You can fill in edited descriptions/keywords/category above, but you'll still want to list any such changes here. It's a good idea to list the Lit ID# that I mentioned in step 1. This is unique to every story/chapter, and can help eliminate the potential for human error. As mentioned above, if you are editing something other than the story text, copy what you put in the notes section to the "story text" as well. This is simply because there must be something in that section for you to submit.
  • Click "Review", then "Submit"

Edits are subject to the same wait time as a new story. I have seen edits go up in bulk in far less time than a story usually requires to post, though.

If you edit the story in this manner ( as opposed to deleting and re-submitting ) you'll retain your votes, views, comments, etc. The only thing that will be changed is what you say that you want changed. It will not appear on the New List again.

If you wish to delete a story, use much the same method, except put something such as *DELETE* in the title, and say that you want to delete the story in question in the "notes" section.

Convoluted, but it does work. It gets a little easier as you get used to it.

Bed time for me, but I'll be up again in a couple of hours to put the young one on the bus, so I'll check this thread again before I crash back out after he's off to school.

Thanks so much, I did what you said. It might mean part 2 is put up before part 1 has finished editing, but that's ok :)

Just for the record, I'm a switch, and I actually wrote ths story empathising with Sam... I like the thought of having a ruthless psycho-woman in charge of me... The next story has some parts through Sam's eyes, though, so maybe it will seem less sociopath-ish!!

It's a good story...awesome storyline, but it needs more detail of the sex scene. Don't skimp on the best parts - there's never too much of that.

That's a problem I do have - I focus on the build up then get cold feet when it comes to the squishy stuff. I'll get over my fear one day!! Thanks :D

You can actually make sure that doesn't happen, although it will delay the posting of part 2.

If the word "pending" is still linked on your author submissions page ( where you can see the votes and such ) then you can click that link and edit it. It will send it to the back of the queue when you submit the changes, and you'll have to wait for it to bubble to the top again, but it will at least post to the new category you've chosen the first time, instead of having to edit it after the fact.

Just read your story out loud to my husband...and neither one of us can fathom why sometimes people feel compelled to leave threatening feedback. I can only guess that your feminine lead character inimidates some of the readers (I happened to think she was awesome, but that's just me...). Congratulations on writing something that pushes readers to the edge of their comfort zone...I would consider that a success :)

That was tame, in my book. No blood or gore. I've written much worse, labeled it as EH, and gotten pretty good feedback. Some readers don't come here for the writing as much as they do for a chance to criticize the characters. Some even feel that the author is retelling a true story and use that to lambaste them. I would probably put the next tale under sci-fi/fantasy because the ring trumps all activity. Good luck.

Thanks so much ! :) It made me feel kind of uneasy to think I'd created something which everybody else thought was an abomination !

And kromen, I origionally posted a similiar story on another forum, and turned it into a Q+A about the situation, roleplaying as the woman. Even though it was a forum designed for that kind of thing, some people did take it seriously. I mean honestly, you think the magic would make people think that maybe it wasn't 100% true? :p

I'm surprised no one's mentioned this might appeal to the male submissive/femdom crowd. It's got a BDSM vibe. :) Not sure if it would play well to that crowd, though, as I've never posted a story in that category.

As a lady who likes to tie up her men, though, I can definitely say the story appealed to me on that level. The fantasy element isn't pervasive, but specifically geared to her dominating her pet.

I enjoyed the story. :)

Thanks very much, you guys have made me feel a whole lot better about it. :) I like tying my men up too, can you tell? :D

Part 2 has just gone live if you want to see Sam get a little brief glimpse of freedom...
