You knew it was coming, didn't you?

It's disgusting. Especially that bit about the FCC overstepping their authority to keep us "safe" from porn.

Oh get up to date, guys. That was yesterday's story. Today's is that the politicians' kerfuffle is a technical impossibility.

No. That article just says that implementing an effective porn blocking system is a technical impossibility. When did ridiculous cost or overwhelming futility ever stop our government from ramming a foolhardy idea down our throats?

It is the nature of government bureaucrats to try to exercise as much control over citizens as they can. When doing so is illegal, as in this instance, they try to weasel their way around the law by citing whatever safety concerns they can find. And, they don't care how much of the taxpayers' money they spend to do it. :(

One has to understand that the "Bureaucracy" is a reflection of the opinions of people who influence the Bureaucrats. ( By 'influence" i mean pay them off.)

The large ISP's have figured out how to wring more money from the net, and want to 'improve their bottom lines.'

So the FCC is trying to support them in their quest for more profits. Same old, same old....

Given the financial straits the fed currently suffers, laying out money to finance the obscenely difficult task of 'cleansing' the Net of port seems a low priority.

Because they will say, in a quavering voice, "It's for the kiddies. We have to take care of the kiddies, no matter how much money we have to spend, and whether we have it or not. Sniff." :(

Wikileaks and the Internet

Not to high jack your thread,I just didn't want to revive my thread, which is below.

Cablegate: MPAA, RIAA, BSA weighed in on France’s Internet disconnection law

The Internet is Global, everybody want to control it for their advantage.

According to a US diplomatic cable given to secrets outlet WikiLeaks, US business interests played a role in the passage of a French law that created Internet user blacklists, ostensibly to be used against people who access copyrighted content online.

The "Creation and Internet law," which became law in Sept. 2009, was initially set-back for months by the theatrics of 15 French socialist lawmakers, an April, 2009 US State Department communique details.

And this.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was expected this week to vote on a set of so-called "Net Neutrality" rules that some Democrats believed would fulfill a key Obama campaign promise to ensure all Internet traffic is treated equally.

Instead, rules authored by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski would allow for a greater fractioning of the Internet and data rationing on mobile and wired networks, according to analysis of the policies. Major network stakeholders like Verizon and AT&T would be able to sell bandwidth in capped tiers, with overage charges for users who download too much information, and certain types of data traffic like peer-to-peer file transfers could be banned altogether.
