A scientist has found the answer!

A cheap and simple fix in the computer software of new airport scanners could silence the uproar from travelers who object to the so-called virtual strip search, according to a scientist who helped develop the program at one of the federal government's most prestigious institutes.

The fix would distort the images captured on full-body scanners so they look like reflections in a fun-house mirror, but any potentially dangerous objects would be clearly revealed, said Willard "Bill" Wattenburg, a former nuclear weapons designer at the Livermore lab. The scanners normally produce real-time outlines of the naked human body, and the Transportation Security Administration has been embroiled in controversy since installation of the new scanners began last month.

"Why not just distort the image into something grotesque so that there isn't anything titillating or exciting about it?" Wattenburg said.
See? Scientists always have the answer. TSA can have their scanners and put an end to the pawing and groping and touching junk.....

Of course, I'm not so sure about his assumption that there won't be anything titillating or exciting about it. As we here on Lit know, there are a lot of different fetishes out there...

At least TSA agents would no longer nickname the machine "The Dick Measurer". Whether these measures do indeed make us safer is something I really doubt.

Oh, can you cite a source that they have nicknamed it that? Or are you making this up because it's convenient for your perspective?

I've always wondered. Does it take a lot of energy to maintain a high level of fake hate?

I don't much care who sees my crotch, personally. But people who have been raped or molested say that the feelup brings back traumatic memories because it's that invasive.

mainly I would not be real comfortable about the extra radiation if I were a frequent flyer. It's the flight attendants and pilots that are worried about that.

The newer ones don't use radiation...it called backscatter light.

Wow, dial it back dude, this is the internet, not your private fact checking service.

And of course the translation to this would be "I'm an asshole and can't be bothered to look shit up I don't know about."

You know, one can debate over who is a bigger asshole, me or s7splat, but I'm quite secure in the knowledge that I didn't make it up. So would anyone who takes 5 seconds to google "Dick measurer TSA"

I think I know who's an asshole. LOL.

I'm game. I did the five-second (and more) search and all I found was dumb bunnies like you throwing the term around between themselves. I found no evidence that anyone in TSA used this term.

This sort of "truth" by making it up and repeating it on the Internet five times is exactly the way hate-mongerers like you act. Doesn't fool me one bit.

You found it out there, didn't you? I didn't make it up, did I? Someone did. Perhaps a TSA agent. You can't prove it wasn't one, either.

I would like to have more faith in my fellow man than to think a professional who is paid to examine naked photos would take his role very seriously and wouldn't dare talk amongst his colleagues in such a crude manner about the tools of his trade.

However, the machine does what they say it does, sans distortion technology. That's the problem, not whether or not the TSA agents actually came up with the term. And not me.

There you have that formula you muckrakers work with. You asserted at the start that it WAS a term the TSA agents used. When caught in your hate-mongering lie, you backpeddled to it "could be."

This sort of crap is what I really hate in the reactionary approach to political "discussion."

You lied. And you knew you were doing it. Just to get the "not-to-bright-of-thought" up in arms.
