Does openly supporting an obvious racist (Ginny) make one a racist?

This thread was actually a rather interesting read.

I used to be friendly with Ginny (and Tortoise) on here. I found her comments extremely distasteful and racist. Had she shown any remorse or regret for those comments I might have cut her some slack although I don't view alcohol as an excuse for racism. My choice is to not post with her anymore.

But I have a much higher chance of putting RoryN on ignore because I can't stand whiny cunts and his racist witch hunts and guilt by association threads piss me off even more. I don't need a little bitch telling me or anyone else who they should be friends with. His little Lit crusade bores the fuck out of me.

Truth be told, I have far more respect for Recidiva if she stays friends with Ginny than I do for RoryN.

I found it fascinating too. It's always interesting to see people you regard as generally sane turn out to be batshit crazy.

There's a marked difference between people who are friends with those who make racist comments because they've gotten to know that person and discovered a whole person aside from the racist comment -- and those who don't know the poster, but notice the racist comment and disregard it anyway.

If you've developed a friendship with someone you've at least got a reason for not immediately cutting them off -- it's the posters who ignore the hateful, vile things that are said just because it comes from a pretty girl or because they think they can get some, for whom I simply lose respect (if I had any to start with.)

What Ginny said was vile. I thought she was an OK chick before, but this changes my opinion of her because I simply don't know anything about her other than her pic threads and that comment. For others who know her for more than that, that comment might not necessarily completely negate the rest of who she is. What people say shapes how we see them, at least on the internet.

But if ALL you know about her is that she's racist and she posts pussy, but you choose to consort with her anyway then that says something about you.

I didn't find this thread whiny. I think unless there's light shone on the bullshit people do and say, they're going to keep doing it. They might keep doing it anyway but public disapproval can be a compelling force.
