No it does not make one a racist, but it is an indicator that said person puts their own personal gain above social injustices, which is their prerogative. That said, I will not associate with such a person and have ended a friendship with someone at Lit for this very issue. (When I say friendship, bear in mind I am not a typical Lit Loser shut-in who thinks a stranger I've never met before is my friend. I mean real-life friends I've have associated with in person a half dozen times or more.)

I used to take everyone off ignore occasionally. I don't do that any more. Lots of people deserve to stay there because they're nothing but hate fountains and my fascination with hate fountains is at low tide. It used to go like this: Lots of time on Lit, no ignore list...engage everyone on everything! Progress to burnout and despair...put people on ignore until it's so boring I leave out of sheer interest attrition. Leave for a few months, ignore list amnesty! Start over...

Now I just "view post" if I feel up to dealing with whatever's underneath. I have a nice balance now between seeing what I want to see and then volunteering for the shitstorm when I feel like it. I miss a lot of threads starting, but there's still enough left for me to choose my battles without feeling as if humanity is going straight down the tubes every time the thread titles refresh.

Also, I do have one lucky thing, Ulaven has nobody on ignore and if something particularly awesome shows up...he'll let me know.

I've had asshole friends that I stayed friendly with for years for similar reasons -- because of my own, positive personal association and history with them. I did find, however, when years went by, and they never grew or moved past their offensive positions, and I finally began to question them about it -- the friendship ended.

I am too old to get new friends. When I have lunch with the black guy who hates whites and the white guy who hates blacks, I sit between them. If the Mexican guy who hates whites and blacks shows up, I put him across the table from me. If the Chinese guy (Vietnamese boat people, 1976) drops in, we have to move to a round table and it's all fucked up.

These are men I have known more than 30 years. They have flaws, but one thing I value about them is their loyalty. If I have to call anyone of them in the middle of the night, I can have anything for which I ask. They know the same is true for me.

If you have better friends than that, then you are truly blessed by the non existent God who blesses this kind of thing.

This thread was actually a rather interesting read.

I used to be friendly with Ginny (and Tortoise) on here. I found her comments extremely distasteful and racist. Had she shown any remorse or regret for those comments I might have cut her some slack although I don't view alcohol as an excuse for racism. My choice is to not post with her anymore.

But I have a much higher chance of putting RoryN on ignore because I can't stand whiny cunts and his racist witch hunts and guilt by association threads piss me off even more. I don't need a little bitch telling me or anyone else who they should be friends with. His little Lit crusade bores the fuck out of me.

Truth be told, I have far more respect for Recidiva if she stays friends with Ginny than I do for RoryN.
