6 days since story submitted, but....

Hi everyone,

I submitted my first literotica story six days ago, but it still hasn't been published on the site.

Is it possible that I did something wrong? Six days is a long time, right? The FAQ says that one can expect a story to be submitted within 3 days.

Ah, the age old question.

1.) if there is a contest in process then regular stories will take longer to post.

2.) if you click on the pending link and then click the submit button again the story goes to the end of the queue.

3.) if there are problems with the grammar, spelling, dialog it could take longer...not too much longer.

4.) if you submitted a word.doc .rtf file instead of pasting text in the submission box it could take longer.

I believe there is a contest in progress so the hold up is most likely related to that.

Unless you've been clicking that pending link everyday and then the submit button.

Hi, Prof, and welcome to Literotica and the AH. Six days is longer than average, but that might be because of the contest, which you can read about on this forum.

Stories with sound and illustrated stories take much longer, sometimes three weeks, and long stories, such as novels take longer than short stories. If you submitted it by other than cut-and-paste, thast takes much longer too. Just be patient; it will allmost certainly post.

Thanks, gentlemen. I'm afraid I was one of those obsessive "pending" clickers. I kept thinking I would learn a little more about when the story would appear if I just clicked that pretty blue link!

Anyway, it finally posted:

It's supposed to be kinda funny, kinda dirty, and not too subtle. It's cool to see it "published," though the flaws are now there for everyone, especially me, to see!

You can edit it you know. Fix the errors and resubmit it the same as before with edit next to the title and in the note section.

If you edit the story, does it come down off the site and then get reposted as new? Or do they just post the new version when it's approved? Or maybe it doesn't have to go through the approval process at all?

So I would type the word "edit" next to the title and in the note section?

Hey Prof! Welcome to the Ah! Great to have you.

You submit an edit just like the original with edit in the title and I usually explain what the edits are in the note field. It goes through the process and then the two seamlessly switch places.

Hypercritical

Most of us people who like to write are probably hypercritical of our own writing.

As soon as I saw the story on the site, I suddenly saw it with very different eyes.

I noticed a few words that I repeated too often (lots of "writhing" going on in that Professor's office! ) And the young lady who stars in the story miraculously changed clothes in the middle of the story!

Anyway, thanks--I'll go ahead and do the edits soon!

Reread it for errors. (You will find a few this way)

Read it aloud. (This will let you check for flow and any places where it stumbles. Stumbling can jerk a reader out of the story)

Good tips, Tx. It's also helpful to head over to the Editors' Forum and seek out someone who can help polish the story.

To professor_rock: Not a bad story and there weren't too many errors. Nothing a cold read from an editor or beta reader couldn't find. And much less than what I've seen in some professionally edited works.

But an unsubtle hint is the really LOW scores the story has gotten. Wow. 3.5! I thought only the really bad stories got scores that low.

True, I wrote it quickly, and I tried to be funny, and it probably offended religious people. But Holy Mackeral!

Don't worry about low scores. Some of my stories that I like the most have scores in the 2s. Hold out for the commentator with something astute to say.

Thanks bebeslut. I appreciate it. I got one comment on the story after 6700 views and 50 votes. The comment was pretty much correct.

The story is not too good, I admit, but I'm surprised by how discriminating the lit readers are.

I have published other, more highbrow stories under the name Professor_Jim. The first one has no dialogue and no contact between the protaganists, just a nice little masturbation scene in the classroom at the end. The story mainly happens in the mind of the professor.

But for some reason I wanted to publish a down and dirty story about raw fucking, albeit with a little humor and twistedness. So I wrote that, and it got pummeled by readers.

To me, that shows that Lit readers are a lot more sophisticated and discerning than I gave them credit for. I thought I could throw some naughty face-fucking against the wall and the readers would love it, but I got rightly criticized for lack of "character development," "plot tension" and the like.

And yes, I am a real professor.

Funny, my "down-and-dirty" stories here get more viewers and often higher scores than my literary ones. Conversely, the nonerotic ones do the best of all.
