Does one spell it out, "l-o-l", that is to say, phonetically, "ehl-oh-ehl", or does one merely say "lol", to rhyme with "doll"?

maybe i'm weird, but when i find something funny in normal conversation i usually just laugh.

People who say "ehl-oh-ehl" in normal conversation need to be shot in the face.

But yes, it's pronounced "lawl".

Right, but who actually types "lol" when they are laughing?

It has come to mean "I acknowledge that you have said something meant to be slightly amusing". That's the sense in which I use it in normal conversation.

I sometimes work with a PR chick who says Oh-Ehm-Gee. Should she be saying something along the lines of "Auhmgh"?

I pronounce it "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha."

Is that phonetic representation of the sound made by actual laughter, or the word "ha" repeated in a normal tone of voice?

I use the latter to mean roughly the same thing as LOL but with an undertone of patience wearing thin.

I seem to have a weird mix of accents going on anymore, so I tend to say it like the name"Lowell".

This thread was originally meant in comedy, but I have to admit, I've been saying both "eloel" and "loll" with a completely straight face lately.

I've heard both ways, but Team Eloel gets the higher percentage of usage from my comings and goings in this city.
