The Authors' Hangout 2010 Halloween Contest Support Thread

It's nice to qualify this time. I did qualify for Summer Lovin', but last minute I was swept down to a point under qualification. It would be annoying if that happened again.

W00T! 3 cleared votes just pushed my score from 4.57 to 4.72! Though now I'm down to just 25 votes, which means I'm only 1 vote away from being disqualified all together. Still, :nana:...

BTW, is there a thread anywhere that explains how this vote clearing system works? Watching my contest story's score bounce up and down like a jogger's breasts has made me curious (and a little aroused;)) about the whole process.

No. The site administrators very purposely don't say how it works--to make it harder to circumvent it.

Great attitude!! I tip my hat to you! I hope you are planning to enter the Holiday Contest as well! I'll be joining in for the ride on that one and look forward to getting to know you better!

All the best in this contest, but you're right - you already won - congrats!!!

I would very much love to enter again, but time, RL and my other two stories will be battling for prio for a while together with my gaming addiction.
I will enter again someday, I promise ;-)

Well, I can appreciate the logic there. But on the other hand the secrecy is a bit troubling. I mean, how do we know that an admin's sister-in-law (for example) isn't getting their votes adjusted so they win the competitions?

It doesn't matter what we think. They've decided to do it that way. We don't have a vote in that.

From my observation, the sweep mechanism is screwy. But, again, it's not anything I have a say in.

No, Em

if I see one more math equation I'm gonna
jab myself in the eye with a dull pencil

You need a sharp pencil for maths otherwise you can't read the equations right. Get your little sharpener out :)

Swept.

Better scoring story is down a couple of hundredths. The lower scoring one has twice the votes, but lost a lot fewer.

I'm guessing there's still one more sweep to go. Should be interesting.

my votes are still going up and score down, seems some are trying to bomb me in the last minutes. why are the votes anonymous again? *evil smile* payback! (kidding of course)

Bwahahahaha!
Ahahaha.. ah. Hmm. That tickled my funny bone. :p

:nana:

When exactly are the winners announced?
Not like I'm gonna see my name, lol, but I can't wait! :D

Hehehehe. :D
This also tickled my funny bone. ;)

They don't offer explaination because people would cheat!!
I personally think they like doing it to give the writers heart palpitations. :p

Not sure

Can't remember from last time, but I know it caught me out. Hang on while I check... nope, can't work it out. Results were posted last time about six hours from now, I think. I'm in a different time zone and (sarcasm about your maths aside) I can't work out when they were actually posted. But it says 8:30 p.m. GMT for the Summer Lovin Contest, so may be the same time for this one too.

So if it was 8:30 GMT that would make it 12 noon west coast time or 3 p.m. on the east coast.

Of course, in this as with most other things, I could be completely wrong:rolleyes:

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that we're working on tallying the votes now. Because of the awesomely high volume of stories in this year's contest, it's taking a bit longer than usual. Should have the results out by the end of the day. Thanks everyone for your patience, and good luck to all participating authors! :rose:

Another newby question: are we talking about eliminating votes from people who voted multiple times from the same IP address?

Congratulations to the three winners! All great stories and all well deserved!

Congratulations to the winners! All there are strong stories and they deserved to win! :)

I didn't post on this forum much at all, causing the trolls to ignore me much more than usual. I didn't expect to win, but I'm happy that my story is hanging in at a 4.7. I'm not so happy about proving the fact that posting on the forums about your story is a sure-fire way to have your score bombed. :( So do we miss out on the fun of forum participation for the sake of our stories' scores? I just don't know.

Congrats to the winners!

It appears you touched a lot of us with your story, HARDING! I know you did, me! But, why the expletive? :)

Sadly, I did not get to the other two stories (although I did read and enjoy Tx Tall Tales' other story).

I'm going to go read the other two, later tonight. Have to prepare for Halloween festivities.

The contest was blast and I am so happy for the connections I've made! The feedback and critiques were awesome. My muse is fired up and ready for the Winter Holiday contest!

Have fun!

Congrats to the winners and to all who entered the contest. I wish I'd had an opportunity to read and vote on more stories, but I've been working a lot of hours lately and haven't felt like doing much of anything.

That there last sweep bounced my score up considerably.

Congratulations to the winners.
