OOC: 2013 The Altered.

It is the year 2013, and the world as we know it, is forever changed. 2012 the unthinkable happened. Chemical warfare destroyed much of the population. Scientists had created a variation of chemicals that would seek out and destroy those with certain genes. Something they had been trying to create for decades. Convicts and illegal immigrants were experimented on first... to see how the human body would react. Most resulted in a horrible death, but there were those who seemed immune, and developed abilities.

The government added it to the water supply, intending to weed out the weak, the diseased, the 'unacceptable' and at first it seemed as if it worked....

Then millions began getting sick....then sicker. Those who didn't die, were altered. Some "Normals" survived, but keep in mind that they are fewer than the "Altered"

It has been a year since the first battle... and those who are left, are trying to rebuild and move on with their lives. The Altered are coping with their new abilities and trying to find their place in this new world.

The rules are simple... no "super everything" powers. Meaning you are not a super mutant and you cannot control everything or have every ability. You can have more than one...but lets not get carried away Also, this is not an X-Men thread, so keep that in mind. Think Heroes like... reasonable powers.

Since it was a biochemical warfare, most structures are still standing. Keep in mind that animals can be altered or dead as well.

I'm not sure if that power would be reasonable, but it is possible. I'll talk it over with the thread starter and see what she thinks. I guess if someone can trigger pheromones in others then I don't see why you couldn't but it might have to be a temporary power. You might not be able to retain the abilities permanently.

Cat was a guinea pig used in the labs because she was dying of cancer. At first there seemed to be no affects of the chemicals on her. She was released into society to just die like she would've before they began their testing. During a mugging....Cat grabbed her attacker and something miraculous happened. She drew out the young mans life force and she became younger... as the once young man became older and shriveled in front of her.

Now her appearance is of a woman in her mid 20s. No more cancer. She has learned to mostly control her power... and can also use someone's life force to heal themselves... think chakra activation to heal...and to heal herself.

Name:Liesl (Lee-sull) Hawthorn

Age: 24

Body: 152lbs Average but Curvy, muscular arms from years of lifting heavy objects.

Hair: Long, almost to waist. Worn mostly in pony tail and curled. The color is dark brown almost black.

Eyes: Grey, specks of green depending on what she wears.

Main ability: She can form extra appendages without a thought if needed. This is limited only to what she has on her normal body though, she is female and there for can not form a male body part. Just wanted to stress that

Career: A waitress at the Bean There Coffee n’ Dine. A diner where the Altered can co-exist, neutral ground so to speak.

Liesl was your average twenty-four year old, she was working as a waitress in another town when the outbreak started. Though she doesn’t speak much of her personal life before then, she has talked freely about having siblings and her parents were passed long before 2012.

She loves music, all kinds and adores musicals which is funny considering her mother named her after a character in The sound of Music.

Liesl’s main ability is to form without a thought an extra appendage, such as a third arm which is great for a waitress on a busy day. She may eventually develop another ability but that is unknown at this time. She came to work for Cat when meeting her not long after moving to town and has been at the Bean There Coffee n' Dine for 8 months.

Power: Absorption and mimicking of powers

Chris worked as a bouncer, not being one of the most imposing guys, Chris had to rely on his martial arts training to handle the unruly guys, but usually tried to sort out all his conflicts reasonably and calmly. When the outbreak struck Chris fell ill, but he survived. His family however didn't.

Chris found out about his power when a man touched him and suddenly he could hear for almost two city blocks, this only lasted until a woman touched him and he had a healing power way beyond anything he ever heard of. On this basis Chris realized that he could absorb and mimic other people's powers through touch.

Chris have tried to learn control over his power, but the only thing he could come up with so far is to withstand absorbing power for up to half an hour of constant touching.

power: Enhanced electrical conduction. Greg's nerves have started conducting electricity at unnatural speeds, this has heightened his reflexes and allows his muscles to react faster.

Occupation: it was college.

BIO: Greg sees himself as one of the normals of this world. In this world the luckiest died, leaving behind unlucky loved ones forced to watch. Others like him suffered the sickness and then recovered, some becoming altered gaining unusual talents. The altered at least have ways to fight back on this rapidly dieing world.

Growing up Greg had lots of advantages, none of which he fully used. His parents put him into Karate classes, sense he liked the power rangers so much, they enrolled him in boyscouts, they placed him in a private school. He loved them dearly but they passed on.

He has the love of his high school sweet heart, Alexis, although he isn't sure for how much longer. Her parents took ill early, and he was a shoulder for her to cry on when they parted. Later his parents took ill, first his mother then his father. Alexis was his shoulder to cry on. Now in this last week Alexis has taken ill, and he is worried she will not survive.

As people die do others usually pick up the slack in jobs? A worker at the factory died of plague so we hired a replacement type of thing. Is money still worth something? Are there still governments?

Finally I have a global question. You said the government did this, does that mean only the US is this bad and some place in Europe or Asia may more or less be fine?

You could probably say at least 3 out of 10 are dead, if not higher. "Normal" is the minority now.

Some do but others were just immune. I'm sure the sickness could vary just like any other sickness.

People still need jobs and since it was Chemical Warfare, pretty much everything is the same after. Some places may have gone out of business, some towns may be a virtual ghost town now as well since so many people suffered. Yes there would still be governments, but how intact they are....who knows.

It was global wide, "bad water" can travel anywhere, some ethnic groups were almost wiped out due to testing. The chemicals were put into many things, killing as she said even animals if we want. The economy might be in a bit of a bad spot but it's only a year later and some people are still sick and dying, not just adults either. Others have realized or just beginning to realize that they have abilities and how to control them.

I would say War between the people, though "Normals" are minority you know how people are. They will rebel against change,especially if the change is in humans. That's why the Diner my character works at will be neutral ground, not everyone is going to get along. The testing was first done on convicts and criminals....so there's going to be plenty of "Altered" evil going around.

Also there are going to be a lot of Altered and Normals who are going to be pissed off at those who did this to us. Expect lots of conflict....

Let me be a little more elaborate on what happened. A group of Scientists working for a "higher" government created this wonderful concoction of chemicals to eliminate "problem areas" (sorry I am a tad bit of a conspiracy theorist lol) and so it was the decision of these peoples to weed out the bad as they saw it. They added it to water supplies and as we all know that bottled water can be just glorified tap water, it went far beyond what they thought would happen.

As for the dead... I would say it is definitely within Mistress's range. Normals are definitely the minority. Some are ok with the Altered and are trying to coexist, while others are trying to regain their "position" in the world so to speak.

It has been one year since the first incident. So its a struggle for everyone to find their ground. So yes, a war of the people... to find out who gains control.

Most of the scientist and the government officials were affected as well... one a few are still alive and normal... some were altered and the rest perished. So now its a struggle for government as well.

Perhaps we could discuss what brings us all together at the Bean There. For my part, I think Victor knows that his talent lends itself best to helping others, and that's easiest to do on neutral ground. His ambition would be to help others, but he certainly wouldn't be above asking for charitable donations for what he does. He's not a combatant, and prefers to duck out before the proverbial shit hits the fan. Perhaps he could have a sort of Betty/Veronica thing going with Cat and Liesl?

Behind the character - im severely dyslexic if you don't want to have to put up with me thats fine just gonna apply any way....

Name - Jasen Roberts

age - 18

Ability - Super human speed and accuracy ex: Guns, thrown objects, knives....

Past Pre-Virus - Jasen grew up in a small town on the west-coast and from early childhood was different. he began walking at 8 months Jasen's muscles had developed in a different way then most peoples and doctors expected him to become a champion athlete. Jason made varsity basketball as a freshman and began to score 30 points a game on average. By his senior year Jason has signed a verbal contract with the Dallas Mavericks while getting 40 - 50 PPG leading his team to the state championship and taking home the title.
As the first victims of the virus where just getting sick Jason had moved to Dallas and was already training for his next season in Dallas. He consumed vast amounts of water each day witch lead to him contracting the water born illness.

Occupation - Jasen is now looking for a job anywhere he can find one still appearing normal most people have no idea hes even changed and thus haven't lashed out against him.
