JESUS COMPLEX: Is Jesus God?

"It is universally admitted … that Christ taught the purest and sublimest ethics … which throws the moral precepts and maxims of the wisest men of antiquity far into the shade.” - Joseph Klausner, Jewish scholar

Ravi Zacharias, who grew up in a Hindu culture, has studied world religions and observed a fundamental distinction between Jesus Christ and the founders of other major religions.

"In all of these, there emerges an instruction, a way of living. It is not Zoroaster to whom you turn; it is Zoroaster to whom you listen. It is not Buddha who delivers you; it is his Noble Truths that instruct you. It is not Mohammad who transforms you; it is the beauty of the Koran that woos you. By contrast, Jesus did not only teach or expound His message. He was identical with His message." -

Bono, lead singer of U2, when asked whether he thought it far-fetched for Jesus to be the Son of God:

"No, it’s not far-fetched to me. Look, the secular response to the Christ story always goes like this: He was a great prophet, obviously a very interesting guy, had a lot to say along the lines of other great prophets, be they Elijah, Muhammad, Buddha, or Confucius. But actually Christ doesn’t allow you that. He doesn’t let you off the hook. Christ says, No. I’m not saying I’m a teacher, don’t call me a teacher. I’m not saying I’m a prophet….I’m saying I’m God incarnate.” And people say: No, no, please, just be a prophet. A prophet we can take.”

"Now let us get this clear. Among Pantheists, like the Indians, anyone might say that he was a part of God, or one with God….But this man, since He was a Jew, could not mean that kind of God. God, in their language, meant the Being outside the world, who had made it and was infinitely different from anything else. And when you have grasped that, you will see that what this man said was, quite simply, the most shocking thing that has ever been uttered by human lips." - C. S. Lewis (who initially considered Jesus a myth)

"You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." - C. S. Lewis

Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712–78) acknowledged Jesus’ superior character and presence of mind, stating, “When Plato describes his imaginary righteous man…he describes exactly the character of Christ. …If the life and death of Socrates are those of a philosopher, the life and death of Jesus Christ are those of a God.”

BORN IDENTITY: Was Jesus a real person?

“The reality is there is not one shred of secular evidence there ever was a Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ and Christianity is a modern religion. And Jesus Christ is a compilation from other gods: Osiris, Mithras, who had the same origins, the same death as the mythological Jesus Christ.” - Ellen Johnson, atheist

“Historically it is quite doubtful whether Christ ever existed at all, and if He did we do not know anything about Him, so that I am not concerned with the historical question, which is a very difficult one.” - atheist Bertrand Russell, Why I Am Not a Christian

Are Science and Christianity Compatible?

Atheist Richard Dawkins from Oxford and leading geneticist Francis Collins debated the subject of God versus Science in a Time magazine feature article.1 At issue was whether belief in Science and God are compatible.

Dawkins, author of The God Delusion, argues that belief in God has been made irrelevant by new scientific discoveries. Collins, a Christian who led 2400 scientists in mapping the human genetic blueprint, sees it differently, stating that belief in both God and science is totally reasonable.

It depends on your point of view.
If you are Christian, Jesus is the son of God.
If you are Jew, Jesus was a trouble making hippy.
If you are Muslim, Jesus is Satan.

If Jesus lives, how can they be serving chunks of his body and pints of his blood every Sunday?

Certain things God can do and certain things God cannot do

Jesus is not God. Man made Jesus God. God cannot create another God. Otherwise he cannot be all powerful. A God cannot die or kill Himself. God does not eat, drink, marry or have sex.

God can do everything in the imagination of man.

The Muslims believe Jesus received a revelation from God but they don't regard him as the son of God.

True. They regard Jesus as one of the twenty most respected prophets of whom Muhammad is the most respected. Adam saw Muhammad in his fingernail. Jesus knew that he had failed to guide the stubborn Jews and he also knew the coming of the last prophet, Muhammad, who will bring the Final Testaments. Many Christians who study the Koran with a open heart, convert to Islam.

I'll be honest I did not read your post. The title was just too much for me to resist.
All I could think of was lyrics from a song I heard a long time ago.
Tori Amos "So you can make me cum; that doesn't make you Jesus"

Still love it had to share.

There's a good reason many convert. Islam is much more believable than Christianity.

Muslims do not understand why Christians pray to statues of Jesus. That is idolatry to them. There are also Christians praying to statues of saints.

If you don’t believe Muslims believe that western beliefs, (God and Jesus), are the Great Satan, just ask a fundamentalist Muslim, but don’t stand too close when you ask, or you might lose your head. The Koran teaches that Allah is the only true God, and all others must be destroyed. And that means us.

Just keep kissing up to these Muslims, and one day, your grand-daughters will be wearing burkas.

Every culture that Muslims have invaded, (either by force or migration), the original culture, including religion and customs, have been supplanted with Islam, and the original culture no longer exists.

Islam is the most intolerant culture on Earth, and the biggest threat our western culture has ever faced.

I agree. And for me the whole tale of Christianity with the virgin birth and all of the various tales in the Bible just seem unbelievable.

I dunno. There may be a god. Seems a bit hokey to me, like some fairy tale. Very Santa Claus to me. Or Easter bunny. I'm not a holiday bigot! :)

no, dear. you aren't fucking with anyone. you're just an idiot.

I must be inside your head, you seem to be pissed.... LOL

I see by your profile that since December of 2002, you have posted 24,827 messages; that is almost nine messages per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year, for almost eight years. Do you have a life outside of this web site?

If there is a God I'm sure he isn't some big creepy guy with a long beard sitting on a throne. :D

You can have a life outside Lit even if you post everyday.
