The Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' Contest 2010 Support Thread

Congradulations to the winners!!!! Well Done.

Been out of the country for a while and burried in work..... I haven't even had time to write let alone read the contest stories.

I guess since I didn't submit... despite the rules .. I won't award the ASS awards. I can't give myself an award when I didn't even submit.... and no one offered me a bribe in any worthless currency..... so the prizes go unawarded.

Next time I vow to win.

Hey Dressy! Welcome back I missed you!

Congrats to the winners!

All three were phenomenally written works that deserve their distinctions.

Bravo!

A special thanks to every one who made this such an incredible time for me! Loved every minute of it.

Here we go. Added a few new H stories to the last track ( Follow the PREV & NEXT links at the bottom of the page to scroll to the next day )

I only tracked stories this time that I found with an H. If yours got missed, my apologies. It just didn't happen to have one at any of the times I looked. Once a story made the list, it stayed there, even if it dropped below 4.5

I also only started tracking around the last day of the submission period. Didn't bother with views this time, either.

As of last check, the toplist where I gather the vote totals still hasn't updated, so the SWEEP column and the VOTES column don't really coincide with the score. The pages where I gather the scores have updated, as they reflect the winners Laurel announced.

No page where stats are listed on Lit updates instantly ( except your own author page, and even then the views only update every so often ), or at the same time. That makes it impossible to get any sort of true, up to the minute statistics, or even statistics that come from the same snapshot in time. I just update everything at once, using the same listing for all scores, the same listing for all votes, etc. -- knowing that the snapshots are different between score, votes, etc.

Page One of my Summer Lovin' tracking.

I may do one more, but then again, I may not. The vote totals will most likely reflect a lot of post-contest voting anyhow, but if the totals are different enough to demonstrate the final sweep to some extent, I'll add it to the string of pages.

Looks good except you missed my final sweep -grins- It still had me as 100 odd votes but when I look at my own profile it shows only 54 votes-one was added after the contest was over to drop me to 4.78. Oh well. One of those mysteries we'll never understand. Onward and forward!

RANK TITLE CATEGORY SCORE Score Chg. Rank Chg. VOTES SWEEP
1 Dark Thunder Gay Male 4.84 0.08 2 89
2 The Nice Bloke Romance 4.82 0.12 9 74 -2
3 A Journey Home Sci-Fi/Fantasy 4.80 0.07 4 169 1

Well Done darkboy!

You caught her... We finally have proof...

Last hours of the contest she jacks up her three favorite stories/authors so they can win a prize. Proof is there in black and white. It would be interesting to know what she demanded in return...

Did anyone else count the number of romance, gay and sci-fi stories in the top ten?

The final sweep took 13 votes away and bumped "A Journey Jome" up to 4.80, and into 3rd place. I think 1st and 2nd were 4.84 and 4.82 respectively.

Scouries, before you post in the future please note that you should check the all time top list rather than the 30 day top list. It updates more frequently for some reason.

to the person that made the comment about me not voting on contest stories. please understand it's not that i don't want to. I would just give them all five stars anyway, otherwise I would be wracked with guilt. So not voting (until after the contest) is as arbitrary as voting all fives.

The sweep was a killer. My score jumped quite a bit, so I must of had a lot of illegal bad votes. Scouries perhaps? with his vaunted hatred of all things sci fi / fantasy? Not an accusation, just an observation.

I wonder if Lit can identify the perptrators of illegal votes. If they can, and banned them from voting for say six months after an illegal vote, perhaps the contest would be more enjoyable for all and less of a surprise at the end.

I don't know that it updates more frequently. It probably just updates first in the string. Trying to run the database queries to update all of that stuff at once would probably grind the site to a halt.

The category pages also seem to at least update early, if not more frequently. That's why I use those listings for score when I track.

Never mind scouries. He presses every ounce of his sour grapes into a giant vat of whine every time winners are announced. Unless he wins, it's "fixed"

Thanks Dark - your tracking confirms the weirdness.

Last day sweeps are highly arbitrary and we'll never know what happens in the bowels of the central computer. Huge score changes for the last day. I know the votes totals are off, we'll see if it's more logical with more up-to-date vote counts (mine was off by 50+). Weird thing was that there was so little change with that many votes changing.

Using the top-lists for the last 30 days to get scores turns out to be WAY off. (And are still way off.) I guess they're not updated very often.

Oh well, I learned my lesson several years ago, when The Perfect Game, after 8 weeks at #1 and over 1000 votes, was 'swept' completely off the Top List. Took almost a year to get back to the first page. If you go around counting your votes, and checking where you are - it'll just drive you crazy. Like, they'll give you 940 votes in a week, and 15 votes in the next two. Aaargh! Why do I even look?

Just write for the fun of it, and if you get a nice score now and then, cool. Read a few other stories, and learn a bit. Get humbled by the quality of the writing in some of the categories. And keep writing.

In my case, I'm happy to have the nice H's and lots of reads.

Think I'm going to pass on the Halloween contest though. Lots of other stuff I need to complete. Good luck to the rest of you.

Actually I’m all in favor of not allowing contestants and their ALTS to vote. So good for you. Unless of course your other 10 voted instead of you.

Don’t be silly – it was an accusation. FYI I only voted on three stories (out of ???) in this contest. A vote for triple t (a 5 - I wanted him to hit 1000), a vote for seduc1love (a 5 – she voted for me) and I believe I voted for one of AS’s stories (a 5 if I voted – I’ve always liked the guy).

The problem with your final suggestion is that what constitutes an “illegal vote” has never been defined. Hard to ban someone for breaking a rule that’s never been published. FYI I have asked the palace to define the term. And then enforce it. More than once. The answer - deafening silence!

Thanks Tx; you put it perfectly.

In the end, one of my two contest stories regained its red "H"; I have met a couple of writers that I am communicating with beyond the threads which is the best part, and halfway through the contest all my stories combined hit over a million views (one story with over 200,000 and two (counting the story I ghosted) at over 100,000- so I definitely got new readers. Since I've only been here since May as a writer (sorry Jim, no Alt here!) I'm thrilled with these results.

Besides, as a reader, I was treated to an amazing bonanza of great stories (including yours Tx!)

Again, loved every minute of it and will definitely by back for more!

Uncharacteristicly, this was almost an inteligent post. Except for the mindless attempt to combine me and Litfan, you actually said some things i agree with.

First, I will stop being silly. It was a jab at you and i apologise. I just find you so offensive i couldn't help myself. The sad thing is that if you spent half as much time being creative as you do being disruptive you would probably turn out some pretty good stories.

I agree with contestants not voting, and I agree that an illegal vote should be defined by the powers that be.

However some of the things you want are assanine. Insisting that only most read and most voted on stories should be considered would just make it an incest or loving wives contest.

If a story got 1000 reads and 100 votes, but was detested, and another story got 500 reads and 50 votes, but was loved. who should the winner be? Anyone with any sense would say the second.

Your claim that some catagories routinely average higher scores, is something that is unfortunate but what can you do other than appeal to your own fan base to vote higher, or write a better story.

In fact, I challenge you, Scouries to write a sci fi or fantasy story. Come on #1 writer on Lit, let us see you get out of your comfort zone and write something other than Incest. Let us see you use your creativity for something other than being annoying.

I want to see you have to rely on your story telling to get votes rather than your catagory.

Defining what the sweeps are looking for would be like installing a security system and then posting a wiring diagram for it in the front lawn.

As I've mentioned before, we don't know that contestant votes aren't already removed. I know that near the end, I got votes and comments/emails from contestants, only to see the votes vanish within 24 hours of them appearing. It's fairly easy to keep track of on low-vote stories once the activity has died down to a trickle.

Ahhh, I see. So scouries desire to have what an illegal vote is defined, is not for the nobel purpose of fairness, but rather a disguised attempt to gain the knoledge he needs to circumvent the rules and adjust the outcome to his liking. Now i understand.

No matter how sensible or pleasant anything scouries says may sound, it's a cover for scumbaggery. Watch long enough -- if you can keep your bile down -- and it's so obvious that you feel like you need a shower every time he posts.

*giggles* Ah, you boys are entertaining. I've needed a laugh all day. Thanks! Now, if I could just get rid of this migraine, I could focus on writing.

Yes, we do finally have proof (again) of you (again) accusing Laurel of cheating.

Do us all a favor, scouries. Grow up, be a man and accept defeat.

No wonder she won't answer you. I wouldn't either if you continually accused me of cheating.

Oh wait, you pretty much already do....you accuse everyone, except you and your cock puppets.

That's why he made up his own contest. He can't win an OFFICIAL Literotica contest so he made up his own so he can always win something.

Pathetic, really.

He has never accused me of cheating, and I'm rather miffed about being left out. :(

My views: Big deal right!. LOL

I write for fun. Lit gives me a chance to do that at literally no cost to me. I usually enter the contest for the quick post. (next day as opposed to 3 to five day)
I've been here for five years and entered most every contest. Never expect to wim but have fun entering and reading the contests posts. (even some of the stories.)

Lit seems to be one of the largest adult story sites on the internet. You join free, post free and are able to get both comments and feedback on your stories.
Don't like the rules? Don't post stories here. I post on a couple of other sites but have nowhere near the readership I find I have here on Lit.

I have no Alts and have no personal friendships with anyone in the A/H outside of e-mail.
I don't like losing votes or anyone who low balls stories for the sake of their own. I realize shit happens and there is not anything I can do about it.

I do like comments, both good and bad. The bad ones make me laugh. It's something that I'm able to raise the ire of someone for something that I wrote and they have no idea who I am.

To me winning a contest here is luck. Put the stories out there and see what happens. There are some very talented writers on Lit. There are also some pretty piss poor ones. LOL. I find the contest give me ideas to write about so I take part. Again I get excited when I finish writing a story and want it posted as soon as possible. The contests lets that happen.

I've got a story ready for the Halloween contest and half done with a second one. Will I win??? Hell no. I'll submit them and sit back and watch my score go someplace, maybe up, maybe down. My stories will end up in the middle somewhere same as always.

Don't take all this contest stuff so seriously. It isn't worth it. One day I'll just get tired of writing and stop.
With respect to all writers

I second what you say DGHear. I find it fun and am amazed to read what I do in this thread. I am overwhelmed by the lack of grace and the words of offence. I write for me first and a competition is the catalyst that projects me into the process. I won't be doing halloween- I know nothing about it.

I was very flattered to receive the votes I did, particularly the low ones as they do mean a lot! They tell me that someone out there thinks I'm doing ok, as much as the high scores do. Thank you everyone who did read my little story, its flattering that anyone did!

I wish to congratulate the winners and thank them for their wonderful stories. Well done!

You don't have to know too much about Halloween to write about it.

I was in Vegas for my 50th birthday which just happens to be on Halloween. There were adults dressed in costumes all day and evening everywhere we went. Even the workers were dressed in costumes.

After a very nice dinner at the Bellagio, we sat on a cold cement bench waiting for the valet to bring around the car to us. My son-in-law and his best man were sitting on one bench and we ladies waited on another one next to them.

Along came a young woman dressed in a French maid costume and squeezed her ass down in between the two men. There were plenty of other benches for her to choose from, too. As soon as her butt hit the cold cement bench she jumped up, flipped her tiny skirt in the air, slapped her naked butt to the best man and screamed, "ooh, that's so cold!" She was hooker! Marketing her wares, I suppose.

It's a great night for guys to dress in drag and for hookers to mingle quite unnoticed by the American law enforcement officers. I say write it up, BooHoo! Make it your virgin Halloween escaped.
