Strange that a story at 4.75 with 89 votes beats out a story with the same rating and 966 votes isn’t it?

Or that the winners are the #129th, the 194th, and the 233rd highest rated stories on the site this month…

Or that the winner is the 17th highest rated GAY story this month…

Or that the second place finisher is the 24th highest rated ROMANCE story this month (behind DG Hear and his 500 plus votes among others)

Or that the third place winner is the 12th highest rated SCI-FI story this month (behind darkboy if you can believe it)…

Or that none of the three winners are among the top three contest entries on today’s top list…

Or that any of them are among the top 100 FAVORITE AUTHORS…

Or that the winners come from categories like GAY, SCI-FI and ROMANCE again…

And yet the PALACE will never publish the final results. Never explain why lower rated stories win. Why stories with low vote totals always beat stories with higher vote totals. Sad really.

The leading story is a GAY MALE category one written as far as I can figure by another of ace’s ALTS. He signed this one up on August 18th! And if the last post (#1068 by ace) is correct there’s been a lot of dirty tricks involved with that story! Who knows what the score for it is now if it's lost 60% of its votes… anyway, for what its worth here they are…

Even though my Summer Lovin' contest story, Spending My Summer Stripping My Mom was the #2 story posted in 30 days and the #19 story posted in 12 months, I'd like to make a claim for the last place throphy, my third consecutive one, if won.

My story Celebrity Tag Team Sexy Summer Bout, only had 9 votes with a score of 2.78.

Personally, I thought it was creatively written. Oh, well, better luck in the Halloween contest.

Hmm. I had the 25 votes. Then, with an hour to spare I was swept to 24 and so I did not qualify. I appreciate the reads, votes, comments, and advice. Thank you! I'm flattered of course that Scouries would think I could win a story contest here (only once came anywhere close), but I had no stories in this contest, and I have no Gay Male stories posted to Lit. under an alt.

I've been a defender of the contests in the past, but the scoring this time seems really strange and arbitrary. Don't know what's going on, but we may have to buy the powers-that-be a calculator...

Does anybody really think there was anything close to fairness in this latest contest? Really? The final results astounded me. None of the highest rated stories at the end of the contest made it into the winner's circle? How does that work?

Not that I have anything against the winners. Read A Journey Home and A Nice Bloke and both were excellent stories. But face it, A Nice Bloke wasn't even 2nd place within its category for this contest (June Bug and Puppy Love both beat it out).

As for a Journey Home, LesLumen's Kindred In The Wood, beat it in the same category.

Agreed. I did vote for all 3 winning stories because they were all excellent even if one of those contestants admittedly refused to vote for anyone else because they found it 'innappropriate.'

However, when I looked at the same ratings, the contestants who won were behind others in the same category. And no one can seem to explain the rating system this time... extremely discouraging. Again, very happy for the contestants who won because they were excellent stories, but...so were others with higher scores....

-shrugs- No Clue-I havent been around in 3 years or so since before life got hectic for me in 2007 so I don't know if the rating system changed since then, but Laurel said the sweeps are supposed to remove duplicate votes from overzealous fans and trolls alike. I get that and I expected my score to drop 20% or so like some other authors like Selena, but 60% seems ridiculously high. I sure as heck didnt vote for myself more than once and didn't ask anyone else to so to drop from 124 votes to 53 then one more before the final outcome to 52 just seems glitchy freaky to me.

It’s not fair at all! You were fucked! The QUEEN traded one gay story winner for another. You probably did something to piss her off.

But before you complain too much you got to remember that the QUEEN invariably favors GAY, ROMANCE and SCI-FI category stories over stories in other categories. So how fair is that to the rest of us?

And the payback to that apple guy – how fair is that?

How else can you explain so many votes getting swept away?

Honest little me only had a handful (touch wood) swept away out of the some 1500 cast on my two stories this time. Which is very unusual. I’ve had up to 50% swept away in previous contests so I do sympathize with your plight. .

I did skim through a few stories, I'll admit I didn't have time to sit and read for the last week or so....hours increased at work. My scores didn't change much after the sweep, only lost about 10 on both. The Thunder Rolls broke the 4.0 barrier after the sweep and The Dugout is hovering just below 4.5. Both up about .02 - .03 after the sweep so not much change.

Not "bad" enough for last place even.

Congrats to the winners of the OFFICIAL contest, not the other, made-up one.

Oh and whoever is eligible for Ogg's Last Place contest, good luck to you....or bad luck as the case may be.

ETA: That first part didn't sound good. I did read quite a few stories early on in the contest, but due to time constraints and being so blasted tired, I could only skim through some later ones. I will get to read more eventually.

Well, when I did the track, I came up with the exact same three winners that Laurel did. The toplist I use to get vote totals from hasn't updated, though. I'll grab those as soon as the script runs to update the toplist.

I'm going to go through ( after I finish eating ) and double check the entire contest page for stories that popped up to 4.50+ and add them to the list.

Once I have that squared away, I'll put in the Prev & Next links and upload them so I can link them here.

EDIT: Well, the system ate my long-assed post about the tracking, so I guess I'll just do an abbreviated version and edit this one:

The toplist where I get the vote totals still hasn't updated, so that number ( and the sweep column ) don't reflect the final sweep. All Lit listings update at different times, so there's no way to get a snapshot of every stat from the exact same moment in time. You get a recent score, a slighly outdated vote total, and a slightly more outdated view listing. You get the picture.

Anyway, use the PREV and NEXT links at the bottom of the pages to move to the next day's data. I only tracked stories that I saw earn an H, so if I missed yours, I apologize. Once a story made it on the list, I left it there, even if it dropped below 4.5

I only tracked stories this time that I found with an H. If yours got missed, my apologies. It just didn't happen to have one at any of the times I looked. Once a story made the list, it stayed there, even if it dropped below 4.5

I also only started tracking around the last day of the submission period. Didn't bother with views this time, either.

As of last check, the toplist where I gather the vote totals still hasn't updated, so the SWEEP column and the VOTES column don't really coincide with the score. The pages where I gather the scores have updated, as they reflect the winners Laurel announced.

No page where stats are listed on Lit updates instantly ( except your own author page, and even then the views only update every so often ), or at the same time. That makes it impossible to get any sort of true, up to the minute statistics, or even statistics that come from the same snapshot in time. I just update everything at once, using the same listing for all scores, the same listing for all votes, etc. -- knowing that the snapshots are different between score, votes, etc.
