That's how public transport tickets are worked out in Brisbane. You can still buy paper (until the end of this year) but to bribe you to use the Go Card, paper tickets are more expensive for the same trip.

It doesn't really bug me all that much, EXCEPT the fact that we used to have weekly and monthly capped tickets - they don't cap the plastic card solution, apart from cutting the cost per trip after the first ten trips of the week. How hard is it to programme a weekly cap on it, GRRR

Yep you got the words right there, the whole idea is that people will be paying more and not realise it. I bit like credit cards, those who don't check their spending will end up paying out more. The fact you get penalised for not touching off when you get off a tram or bus is a crock. And you get penalized at the higher rate. This system has been in Europe for a while so we are following a trend. It won't work when the transport gets crowded and people will still find a way to get away with not paying so only the people who do the right thing will get penalized. Certainly gives more incentive to drive to work.

Elf what do tourists do with thier $10 ticket that they have to buy? is there a resale on them? or is it suck it up, keep it as a reminder of the brain dead pollies allowed to run State & Nation.

Well at the moment you can still use the old system, however when it goes totally plastic, I'm not sure. If they were smart they would come up with a platsic card that was dispensed from a machine with a dollar value on it. Currently the plastic is useless unless you charge it, you just get the plastic, however since it only lasts 4 yrs you need to get another one. So once again you pay twice, once to buy the plastic then add dollars to it. It is called Myki, we called Mickey. Melbourne is known for a fairly good PT system, tourists like it cause there is plenty of it around the inner city. Peak hour of course is another issue.

So my advice is to get here before they change it, hopefully I will be elsewhere when they get rid of the paper system.

Afternoon all,

Day off for me. Need it after a rather long a busy month ending a flurry of trying to make up for others saying and doing stupid things...I could write a book about it, but nobody would believe me.

Well as Gem alluded to a few pages ago...our shit weather has really come in to its own been raining all week but only in time to go home from work. Got caught out three days in a row. It seemed no matter what time I decided to leave work it waited to rain until then. Just been raining again, but I fooled it I didn't go to work...

The only good thing about the rain is that the dam levels have increased to nearly 40% so that is much better than the last few years. We have had one of those old fashioned winters this time around. Been a number of years since we have seen this type of winter.
