Proposition 8 ruled unconstitutional..

The Constitution is there to PREVENT tyranny by the majority.

Gee, it's almost like you studied history at some point. See, Powertone? That's what smarts get you.

BTW, a special message to all the bigots and hate-mongers who voted yes on Prop 8: nice job throwing your vote away.

what else is buried in the constitution we've yet to discover , ya fuckwad
you fucking moron

Freedom is in the Constitution. No matter how much conservatives deny it's there and no matter how much they attack freedom.

in essence , the court is saying fuck you to the overwhelming majority
ah liberalism...tyranny is thy name

Wasn't the Prop 8 vote something like 51-49? "Overwhelming" isn't really the word I'd use there.

And besides, we've never put the equal protection of the laws up for a vote.

Second-grade history class. I grew up in the same neighborhood as Powertone (*shudder*). They teach history in elementary school there.

No not at all. The Constitution trumps public opinion, moron.

Remember when forcing blacks to use the small, crappy bathrooms and sit in the back of the bus was overwhelmingly popular? Remember when banning interracial marriage was overwhelmingly popular?

The Constitution is there to PREVENT tyranny by the majority. You apparently think that the courts are there to rule in favor of opinion polls though.

This is why we are called a Republic and not a Democracy. Democracies can do anything if the majority (or a vocal minority) agree with it, whale a Republic has ingrained safeguerds to prevent such thigs

...and thus begins the appeal tango....

Public opinion on prop-8 was strongly in favor of allowing gay marriage. Then 50 million dollars of out-of-state money led by the Mormons poured in and flooded the airwaves with hateful, distorted ads. Anyone remember the commercials saying that unless gay marraige was banned that your kid's teacher was going to teach your son or daughter HOW TO BE GAY?

That's literally what they said. That and worse things. Then opinion changed a few points.

C'mon, just because someone's former username referenced semen doesn't mean that he's gay.

To be fair, that was his "erotic" username for the purposes of the site. You know, so people (or women) could "get" the fact that he's into "erotic" things and be impressed by that. Like having "semen for her."

it was wildly erotic, wasn't it?

even better than reproductiveorgan4females.

"Supporters argued the ban was necessary to safeguard the traditional understanding of marriage and to encourage responsible childbearing."

This is the preposterous, hateful "logic" used by the ban's supporters. "If you don't think of marriage exactly the way we do, then you shouldn't be free to have it!"

Prop-8 supporters should campign against the Iraq and Afghanistan wars which deploy parents for a year or more. Deployments are destroying families. 78% of families where the deploying parent is 25 or under get divorced during or shortly after deployment. The war ends families. I see it all the time - literally every day.

Where are the Prop-8 bigots on this???

Colorado had a similar proposition on the ballot decades ago. It was also voted in and ruled unconstitutional.

"Colorado is about mountain men, not men mounting men."

You know the terms "republic" and "democracy" aren't mutually exclusive, right? Should I get Wok to draw a diagram for you?

What about mountain men mounting other mountain men? Why do you hate equality so much?

Good. Now the focus can be on other things like terrorism and stuff.

Oh wait, gays are terrorists. Damn libz!

What you have to love is how opinion shifts towards gay rights a little bit every year. The younger folks are strongly in favor of gay rights while the older, bigoted folks are dying out and changing their opinions.

Conservatives can now only campaign on the issue in certain locations, and only if they run hateful, extraordinarily distorted campaigns that use the same flawed logic once used to deny blacks civil rights.

They're scrambling to get as many state constitutions amended before the tide of public opinion makes them irrelevant. No matter, those amendments will either be re-written someday or trumped by the supreme court.

Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley got married in California.

Liz Taylor got married 8 times.

Britney Spears was married for 55 hours.

Yeah, California needs to protect the "sanctity" of marriage.

Well, if gays want to be as miserable as hetero couples, why the fuss?

Funny how the righties are all for judicial activism when it suits them and scream about tyranny when it doesn't.

Yeah, I have a conservative friend who always made a point of saying he doesn't believe we should make amendments that limit peoples' freedom.

Of course, he proudly announced that he voted for Proposition 2 here in Florida. Go firgure.
