For a short period of time new stuff is highlighted in red. I don't know how long that sticks for though.

Beyond people promoting additions to their stories in the forum and what shows up on the lists on the front page there isn't a vast amount that can be done.

You can bookmark a story and tick the option in your preferences to recieve an e-mail when it is updated. However I have several stories bookmarked and I've not once recieved an e-mail regarding updates, so that's probably another feature which is not implemented.

Stories can come up as "fresh" when a thread has been rated in which case there'd be no little red dotas it's not a new thread.

You can also do an Advanced Search in which you stick the story's title in the Keyword box and select the option for "Display Results as Threads." That will give you the most recently added or rated threads, so you can see if there really is a new addition or if there was just a new rating.
