I'm a reader, not an author but how do I vote in the contest?

Not a dumb question at all, sweetheart.

On the last page of all of the stories are a set of five empty stars. You click on the star that represents your level of enjoyment and that many will fill in with gold. Viola! A vote.

My stories, and Jeanne's, except that we are permanently disqualified, would be worthy contenders. All three have ratings in the low 3s, despite several complimentary PCs for which we are grateful.

I'm saddened to write that I may have another contender for the last place trophy. As you may remember, I won the last place trophy for the Earth Day contest and may have won last place for the Valentine's Day contest, had I reported it.

Presently, I have a story with a score of 3.12 with only 8 votes; I'm embarrassed to report.

All submissions must be stand-alone stories created for this contest theme. We will not accept individual chapters of a larger work submitted separately. If you have a multi-chaptered contest-themed submission, please submit all chapters together as one story submission.

The story in question is Daniella Defiled (stoty # 485163) by the author Jaymal.

ace, db and a couple others commented on the when and why of this rule. They didn’t however address whether the story breaks the rule as written or not.

legs suggests it is a continuation and then states that we should leave it up to LAUREL to decide. (I must say the term “continuation” is a new one to the whole stand alone/chapter/serial debate).

The infamous moonie announces that it’s “qualified for entry in the contest”. I suspect he hasn’t read “Daniella Bound” and instead is simply toadying up to the palace as is his wont.

litman is another that calls it a continuation. Then says in his opinion it’s a “tough call to make” whether it breaks the rule or not. He, like legs then suggests it shouldn’t be discussed further and that “the officials” should make the call. He didn’t say what call he’d make.

Jaymal the author argues that it’s a “serial” and not a “second chapter”. He claims that “Daniella Bound” was “complete in its own right”…. He says “I put considerable effort into writing Defiled as a stand-alone, which could be enjoyed by readers who had no knowledge of the original”.

So we have words like “chapter”, “continuation”, “serial” and “stand alone” to describe Jaymal’s work. I read the two last night. In order.

Quite frankly, unlike the author I don’t believe Daniella Bound was “complete in its own right”. Again I’ll post the last lines of the story:

'So are you busy the rest of the weekend or aren't you?'

Eric looked down at his petite, shapely house guest in an advanced state of curiosity. 'I guess I'm all freed up.'

Daniella drew up close to him and took both his hands, meeting his gaze squarely. There was a tremble in her lower lip that wasn't entirely affected. 'Then finish what you started,' she said. 'Fucking defile me.'

The weekend stretched out before them, a broad vista of wild possibility. Eric Lehane and Daniella Blanchford looked deep into each other's eyes and smiled.

My guess is that everyone who read it must have immediately asked themselves, ‘Okay, 'finish what you started", where’s chapter 2?’

Daniella Defiled starts the next morning. With the same characters. Our heroine is bound naked in the same chair. If you like the word “continuation” fine. That’s what a second chapter is.

I also believe the author’s statement, “I put considerable effort into writing Defiled as a stand-alone, which could be enjoyed by readers who had no knowledge of the original” actually helps prove my point.

It indicates clearly that Jaymal knew when he was writing Daniella Defiled that he was in danger of breaking the rules.

So what did he do, what “considerable effort” did he undertake to transform it from Chapter 2 TO A “SERIAL’. Well, what he did was this – he wrote a recap of Chapter 1 and put it in Chapter 2 (about halfway down page one, the paragraph that starts ”Just another date, that’s how it started…. This recap goes for three paragraphs and includes about 500 words.

So is it an ineligible Chapter 2 or is it an eligible Chapter 2 of a “serial”. Does writing a recap of the first chapter and putting it in the second chapter transform chapter 2 somehow into a “serial”?

READ IT!

In order. Read Daniella Bound and then continue directly to Daniella Defiled. And when you’re finished ask yourself if you’ve read one story or two different stories.

More good reads. Ogg's stuff was well written, and a terrific break from the usual. Using Mao's Little Red Book as inspiration deserves an award for that alone!

Mia_erotica's story was hot-hot-hot. The chase and capture was fun, and her debasement on display was decadent and deviant, both things I love.

I'm amazed at the Raven Fox's technical ability to take her audio stories above and beyond the usual. Definitely deserves a "How-to". Wild in the Wild is a must listen. Lucky ranger.
