The Authors' Hangout National Nude Day Support Thread

I thought I had read yours and commented on it. Did I miss your story?

Oh you did for Holly and it was greatly appreciated; feel free to read Once Upon if you should want to. I was speaking in general and future terms and (rather arrogantly I guess) on behalf of other writers here. I was happy to see Sassy jump in so fast to so you that you do matter.

And thanks Mia as well. I value and respect your opinions highly.

and thanks to you DK for also acknowledging my opinion.

(You'll need a lot more than just a whiplash mustache to be nefarious to me!)

Thanks for listening!

It appears to be a continuation, however it also can stand alone as its own story. I think that's the aim with the rule of no chapters.

Anyway not that it matters. If Laurel deems it disqualified because of that, then it is. No point in posting multiple times that he's a rulebreaker, because, frankly, I don't think anyone cares except you.

I read Daniella Defiled first and found it was an incredible story in its own right completely. I had never even heard of the first work before I finished Defiled.

I also find the balcony scene in particular to be relevant to the Nude Day concept.

I realize Jim doesn't give a crap about what I think but my understanding is that the rule was put in place to prevent people from jamming a single contest with a bunch of entries on the same story line split into parts solely to get more chances in a contest.

Jaymal only made one entry. No foul.

One other thing that really pisses me off - I had a good guess and I checked back to Daniella Defiled after Jim had posted his "Defiled should be disqualified" post and sure enough there was an anonymous comment saying the story should be disqualified and bashing DK as well.
Okay Jim, if you can't put your name to it SHUT THE FUCK UP!

I entered one of Montana Summer's chapters into an Earth Day contest, and there were some complaints that it had an unfair advantage due to the popularity of the series. I agreed, and pulled the story from the contest. I think that's the basis for the rule, so that a chapter from an ongoing series can't use its popularity to gain a leg up on the competition.

The rule came right after Freddie entered about twenty short chapters of the same work in a contest. Don't know the one off hand, but I did reviews on that contest, so I could easily finger it.

Winter 2007: 7 chapters of multi-part stories out of 81 entries
Valentines 2008: 4 chapters of multi-part stories out of 84 entries

Forward in time a little:

Earth Day 2008: 20 chapters of multi-part stories out of 56 entries

Skipping How-To, as the theme wasn't exactly chapter-friendly anyway

Nude Day 2008: 22 chapters of multi-part stories out of 71 entries
Halloween 2008: 49 chapters of multi-part stories out of 165 entries

Winter 2008 introduced the No-Chapter rule.

Oh god yes, that was the Earth Day contest a couple of years ago I think.

Busy night on the boards!!!

DK I am sorry but I don't totally agree with you on this. Votes is one thing as that is very arbitrary and impossible to rationalize completely. But comments is a whole different issue.

I too write here simply because I enjoy writing, but I have been a professional writer my whole life and in the journalistic trade you get very sketchy feedback at best and never timely.

This place absolutely amazes me in the built-in ability for readers and writers to connect in a multiple of means and forums almost instantly. Favouriting empowers the readers.

Yes, write well and they will read, but I love to hear about it and discuss it post writing with my audience. I don't really give a shit about my vote score or view total. I would rather have one moved reader than a hundred causal readers. I love to hear about the experiences of other writers. The camaraderie between readers and writers and writers with writers gives me almost as much a buzz as finishing a work that I am proud of. Sure I get paid a hell of a lot more on my other writing but the feedback/conversations here more than make up for it. I am enjoying this a lot more than my other work no question.

Not being an ass and I mean the question honestly because from what I read of you I like you and I really want to continue to hear from you but I want to give you something to think about - if you don't want a reader's feedback why do you when you read give feedback?
If this upsets you, please PM me as I would love to damage control or fix things as you are a very valued member of this place and for me.

We do write but we are human and should seek human companionship, And what better place than where we all share the same interests?

That's what happens when you live in a different time zone from most of the other contributers.

I concur with Mia, litfan - fine points well made. I write chiefly for enjoyment but obviously I don't want to write in a vacuum. We all put our stuff out there and run the gauntlet of opinion, but isn't that why we write? Don't we want to create work that people will get to the end of and form an opinion? Isn't the fun of a contest such as this that we pool our work, discuss it and maybe come away slightly better or confident writers due to feedback and interaction? And isn't one of the reasons why people submit in the contests so that the product of their spare time doesn't just fizzle out and lie ignored after two days on a New Stories list?

Two rewordings after a good night's sleep.

First, a rule is a rule so Lauren and co. need to make the call on Daniella Defiled. While Defiled is a stand alone it still is a continuation. I am not sure how popular Bound was before the contest but that becomes semantics. I do know because of how much I enjoyed it I did go back and read Bound which is a goal of the contest to expose writers and their works to a potentially new reader so in that sense the contest served Jaymal well and in the way it was intended. This actually is a tough call which is why we should all (both sides) back off now that the question has been raised and let the officials make the call (instant replay anyone?)

Second, I apologize Jim. I could have said the above better, but I still partially believe what I said which is why I didn't delete it. You certainly have a right to your opinion and to be able to voice it. You should be able to bring a specific question with regards to the legitimacy of a story directly to the story through the comments as well. It is the anonymous bit that I feel is wrong. Stand by your words. You do have a very valid point but this way really comes across sneaky and cowardly as well as manipulative and conniving, none of which is admirable or honorable. Again sorry.

The newbie will now shut up himself.

Hey there (guy at the back of the room tentatively raises his hand) - since it's my story can I say something?

Daniella Defiled is a sequel, not a second chapter. Daniella Bound was complete in its own right and I put considerable effort into writing Defiled as a stand-alone, which could be enjoyed by readers who had no knowledge of the original. They may choose to go back and read Bound, indeed I hope many will, but do not need to. The events and the character arcs of Defiled all work within the confines of the story itself. The main theme of the story as I see it is physical exposure versus emotional exposure - Eric keeps Daniella physically naked, but is emotionally laid bare by the end.

There. I've had my say.

Just like Dark's story in the previous contest, I read it with no prior knowledge and (sadly for you and Dark) no continued reading. I thoroughly enjoyed them both as stand-alone stories.

This topic is beyond beating a dead horse, this is now nothing but a resurrected skeletal pile raised for the neverending delight of the pot-stirrer. For those who don't think this topic is post-postmortem, they have only to go back and read Dark's comments regarding Earth Day. The Powers That Be have spoken. The stories stand.

Jaymal, I do think I need to go and read more of your work. I do hope you and others will continue to submit to the contests and not be put-off by the negative spin-doctoring that goes on here on the contest threads. :rose::rose:

Hey Jaymal, Of course you should have your say! That's the point. We all should which is why this thread is here.

I really like your distinction between sequel and chapter and I think it is a huge point here. Personally (and with all the prejudices that entails) I feel Defiled should be in the contest and is an incredible addition to it.
I am proof positive of what you are saying; I found Defiled first and enjoyed it immensely never having even heard of Bound. It did indeed lead me to Bound which I also enjoyed, but to me they're their own separate works.

Again regardless of contest results, because of you entering Defiled you have given at least one reader (me) an incredibly pleasurable read which I would never have found otherwise probably which I believe ultimately is what the contest is all about.

oh yeah, and Og's Last Place(tm) Trophy :D

So thank you Jaymal for writing and entering Defiled.

I gained one vote overnight and lost .15. That person must have really, really, really not liked my story.

Keep your grubby little paws away from MY LAST PLACE TROPHY!!!

Talk about resurrecting skeletal remains (Hi Tio!)

Grubby ?!?! I've washed my hands!

Come on! I didn't work hard to earn that trophy, it should be mine!!!

Still think Aaron's Association is awesome!

Keep your grubby little paws away from MY LAST PLACE TROPHY!!!

You can't all win it, although it is possible to have a tie.

My stories, and Jeanne's, except that we are permanently disqualified, would be worthy contenders. All three have ratings in the low 3s, despite several complimentary PCs for which we are grateful.

You're gonna give a girl a big head.... ponders that a moment and can suddenly think of some cases where that would be a GOOD thing.

Thanks to litfan and driphoney for saying nice supportive things.

To blazes with the tactical voters and trolls, glynndah - it'll all come good in the sweeps!

Good morning to my trans-Atlantic fellow Literoticans. May your day be a good one.

This sounds like a conspiracy to me or a cover up. Gasp! It's a controversy!!

Quick some naked girl get me chocolate since I haven't had my morning coffee I am libel to grab a gun maybe ten and shoot the place up....

Oops, I opened the wrong thread by accident. Sorry everybody! Go back to your normal business.

I've been gone for a while, busy with work and a vacation.

First - Good morning RavenFox!

Second - happy National Nude Day/Bastille day a day late!

Third - thanks for all of the lovely comments both on this board and on the story for Halley. This has been a truly rewarding experience in terms of interacting with other readers, but especially other writers.

Hope everyone's summer is going well and not TOO hot (temperature/humidity-wise).

Hello ShiChi...nice to have you back!

I just read Tio's piece and was thoroughly delighted. I read Og's Nude Adultry and can't get it out of my mind. Both are talented writers who delivered unique stories. Thank you both. I voted and commented.
