Bill Clinton has not been known as a spokesman for the conservative agenda.

The conservative agenda is to transfer blame for as much of the economic loss to poor handling of the disaster and distract from the true cause.

It's much easier to tell an out of work fisherman, who was once a staunch Republican that his financial ruin was caused by slow Liberal response to the oil spill, than to say it is the result of decades of poorly managed energy policy.

That is not what I said at all. I said the conservative agenda is to assign blame for the economic loss to the clean up effort. The people most hurt by the oil spill were once strong supporters of conservative politics.

The clean up and the cause are two different problems. I have seen houses burn to the ground because a small fire was not properly extinguished. The cause was not recognized and when the flames were out, everybody thought it was safe to relax.

It would be nice to go back to work and put food on the table, just so long as you weren't counting on shrimp or oysters for dinner, or counting on selling them to pay your house note.

The big mistake would be in thinking the people of the Gulf Coast, who will ultimately pay the price of the clean up, are stupid.

The rig was located 45 miles southeast of Venice, La.

Establish Command Center to Address Potential Environmental Impacts

Concurrently, the administration also quickly establishes a command center on the Gulf Coast to address the potential environmental impact of the event and to coordinate with all state and local governments. Since this point, the administration has continuously anticipated and planned for a worst-case scenario.

NOAA Mobilizes to Provide Trajectory Support

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) mobilizes within three hours of the explosion and started to provide trajectory support and coordinated scientific weather and biological response services. The NOAA weather forecast office in Slidell, La., also provided weather information to the Coast Guard at its request shortly after the explosion to support initial search-and-rescue operations.

The President is alerted to the event and he begins actively monitoring the situation. At the time, it was known that 126 people were on the rig when the explosion occurred.

There's oil washing up on shore because

1) There wasn't a good plan to prevent leaks.
2) There wasn't infrastructure or technology to address leaks of mammoth size one mile deep.
