How common is it to pay one of the Literotica editors?

I've just gotten a good editing job with foreign person (the name is ambiguous as to gender). First one was free of charge but beyond that is US$10 each (If we go beyond what he/she's already done, I'm supposed to pay, but I don't know if this is some unemployed person or someone up to no good looking for financial information. I would definitely benefit editing (more than my work, I would benefit). Any advice would be appreciated.

PS: I haven't paid yet, I just got back the Free of Charge job and haven't yet committed to paying anything.

Literotica has a Volunteer Editor program. That means we donate our time. I haven't heard of anyone here charging to edit, so I guess paying someone would be your choice.

But is that person really a volunteer if they charge you?

If the work isn't for Literotica at all, then it would fall under different guidelines.

It's one of the editors. I decided not to use the person. Which means I'm back to square one. The only person whose bee willing and been able to get into email contact with, is unemployed and wants to get paid for "volunteer" editing.

Check the available editors thread for the month if you haven't. That's the most up-to-date listing.

I know the search for an editor isn't always easy. Don't give up. You'll be glad you kept looking when you find a good match.

Good luck. :rose:

If I were to charge for editing, it would be a lot more that $10.

This person does not think much of their labor.

Agree with the other editors. Reminds me of the saying, "Hook, line, and sinker." Never underestimate the cleverness of those who are intent on bilking the unwary out of surprisingly vast sums of money. And it always starts off small so as to seem innocuous.

Be very wary, my friend.

As for editors, I might be able to assist. And at no charge. I would need more details. I'm good with any cats except gay male, length is another issue. Not looking for any mammoth projects, however. Just finishing up what waits on my plate.

I do have a style that not all agree with, ML in particular. I prefer active language, but her, being old, decrepit, and old-school and all, well, she's more passive. The choice is yours, except she's already said she'd want more than a ten-spot. Look over a few of my own to see if my style matches yours. The link below gives you access to my many varied stories.

If interested, PM me with the details. Catagory, word length, etc., and we'll go from there. Or, pay the ten bucks and see what happens. I'd almost finance this just to see where this goes, could be a story plot here, lol.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

If you're referring to passive voice, then you're dead wrong. I don't use PV in my writing.

As for the active thing . . . I'm not the only one confused by what you're implying with that.

Edits for posting on Lit only are through the VE program. Mainstream edits I get more than $10 for, yes.

Another time we shall have to agree to disagree. We have had this argument not so long ago, your choice being passive voice, now suddenly you change your colors. Whatever. Doesn't matter, really. Our country is sinking like a twenty-pound weight into the abyss. Sometimes I don't want to wake up anyway.

You're right ML, you're always right, ML.

Enough said.

No, you won't find where I said my choice is PV. Ever.

We had a conversation where you stated this. Been looking, still trying to recollect thread.

Whatever, doesn't matter. Will apologize publicly as I am unable to locate what I know I have witnessed.

Really doesn't matter. We're all fucked anyway.

I read that entire thread just now, AS. Nowhere did I state PV is my choice.

Now, just because the two of you have started this line of conversation, I expect to get a story from a sub, who has been ordered buy her master to write a story entirely in passive voice.

*chuckle*

Maybe you should write it since you have the idea. ;)

Just to try and explain myself - There was a story posted a short while back that I edited here using active voice, you submitted a different version using passive voice, and I mentioned this difference. That conversation resulted in an agreement to disagree, which is fine. Tolerance is a good thing.

Maybe you don't recall, that's okay too. But I also am confident I wasn't dreaming the whole thing. Usually I just can't remember anything, I don't usually remember things wrong ;)

Doesn't matter really. Just gives us something to post about at the end of the day.

No, sorry, AS, I remember the discussion. ML wasn't favoring passive voice. Rather you didn't seem to understand what active voice was. You gave examples of what you claimed was passive, and it was all active--I asked more than once what was passive about the examples, but got no answer.

Here's the link to the thread.

This is post #10 when you bring up active voice.

Not sure how I ended up being pointed out, DP, but here I am.

Debbie looked over the menu and said, "This place looks really nice. I like the menu and the selection they have here looks great." She ran her finger down the menu and smiled as she said, "They have some of my favorite dishes. I like this, and this, and this and..." Debbie suddenly looked like a confused puppy as she looked up from her menu, tilted her head and asked, "Who the heck would want anchovies on their garlic bread? That's just the weirdest thing I've ever heard!" Then she looked back at the menu and after a few moments was outright shocked as she looked at me excitedly and said, "Oh my god! They have naughty pasta here! We have to try it."

I actually prefer more active voice lately.

Debbie, looking over the menu, announced, "This place looks really nice. I like the menu and the selection they have here looks great." Running her fingers down the menu, smiling, she decided, "They have some of my favorite dishes. I like this, and this, and this and..."

I'm okay with exclamations, I feel it's up to the writer to set the pace and tone of the story. The writer knows what is trying to be conveyed. Just my humble opinion.

This is my reply to your post, where I make no mention of active or passive voice. I pointed out the number of times 'look' showed up as well as the tags in the single paragraph.

That's . . .

You replied to it with this, mentioning active voice again. Which I didn't even say anything about.

We shall have to agree to disagree, I'm afraid. I prefer active voice, I feel it flows better, at least to my eyes.

After a few other posts from different people, you put this one.

AsylumSeeker said:
It's a matter of taste, active or passive voice. I feel strongly that active flows better. This is so for me. Just my thoughts.

Here I answer you with the CMS rule.

MistressLynn said:
Passive/active voice is more than a matter of taste, AS. Along with several examples, CMS 5.112 states . . . passive voice is typically, though not always, inferior to active voice.

Nowhere in any of that entire thread did I say I prefer PV.

Thanks to all involved. And a public apology. I see I may have misinterpreted what I was reading/seeing. I stand corrected. And I am not above saying so.

Small potatoes all in all, but again I am sorry for my misinterpretation.

There is confusion as to how this thread ended up in this direction.
