I've just submitted my first story. Before I submitted it, I didn't look around for an editor and just kind of threw it into the winds of the system.

If I haven't searched for my own editor, will someone just pick it up from a pile and do it, or do I need to ask someone to find it for me? If I have to ask someone, will I need to resubmit it?

I'm not exactly sure on how the editing/submission process works here. If anyone could direct me to a FAQ or answer some questions, that would be great.

Thank in advance!

The submission mods and the volunteer editors are two different groups of people. Submission moderators check a story for minimum grammar and spelling standards. It has to be readable, but many typos and errors get through this screen. The real function of submission mods is to insure the story conforms to Lit's story guidelines and does not contain any banned subject matter.

If your story is rejected, you can find a volunteer editor in the "Available Editors" thread, who will be able to help you make the needed changes.

Ah, okay, thanks!

Another question:

If I want to edit it, can I directly edit the story after it's approved myself, or do I have to delete the story, edit it, and then resubmit it to change things?

Make your changes from your Word doc (or whatever you use) then resubmit the cleaned copy using the same exact title with EDIT behind it. For example: Rainy Days - EDIT

Add a line or two in the Notes box mentioning it's an edited copy and you should be all set. Your edited version will go up in place of the original in the normal posting time and you won't lose votes, views, or comments.

This is just me, but what I like to do when I post an edited version is to place an author comment at the top of the story indicating that this is an edited version. This way, in case readers may have posted comments about the qualiy of the story or inaccuracies in the initial story, future readers will better understand why they are not seeing the same problems when they view the edited version.

Just a thought.
