June 22 (Bloomberg) -- A New Orleans federal judge lifted the six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling imposed by President Barack Obama following the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Shares of drilling services companies jumped on the news.

Of course, the White House immediately announced plans to appeal the Judge's decision.

Shades of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who too, felt he could run roughshod over Constitutional limitations on Executive Power, this President is having sweeping legislative reforms challenged at the Polls, in Court and by the public at large.

A new issue arising today is a controversy over comments made by General McChrystal, the Officer in Command of the war in Afghanistan...commentary in the news is that the General will be relieved of duty.

According to news reports from the Gulf, some 150,000 jobs are associated with off-shoring drilling and hundreds of millions of dollars are in jeopardy from Obama's emotional and ill thought out ban of drilling.

As usual, you don't have a clue what you are talking about. The ban was on wells in water deeper than 500 feet. That is a small percentage of the wells being drilled. That 150,00 out of work is most likely less than 10,000.

A deep water floater gets a half a million dollars a day to drill so yes, the drilling companies are pitching a bitch.

All rigs in the Gulf were re certified immediately after the Blowout and all passed except one or two that had minor problems. You forgot to mention that fact.

The essence of my thread was to take note of the court's action in placing a hold on the Executive order banning drilling...and yes, below 500 feet, but then, one should do their own research and form their own opinions.

There is also the issue of the Obama administration investing two billion dollars into a Petro Brazil deepwater project, in far deeper waters than Deepwater Horizon, while the Idiot in the White House places a ban of US exploratory efforts.

You should maybe stick to the technology you are familiar with and leave the political ramifications to others more experienced and qualified.

MSNBC just quoted an Associated Press piece that I have been unable to confirm online, stating that Interior Secretary Salazar was going to impose a new ban on drilling within the next few days.

NEW ORLEANS (June 23) -- The Louisiana judge who struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico has reported extensive investments in the oil and gas industry, according to financial disclosure reports. He's also a new member of a secret national security court.

U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman, a 1983 appointee of President Ronald Reagan, reported owning less than $15,000 in stock in 2008 in Transocean Ltd., the company that owned the sunken Deepwater Horizon drilling rig.

Obama licensed all the deep-water rigs and inspected all of them after the BP fiasco. BP caused the problem NOT the others, and the others comply with Federal regulations to date. So Obama has no legal cause to stop the drilling.
