Avatar problems

So I finally have enough posts to have an avatar - yay for me! Now to fit the size requirements, my pic is either so tiny you have to squint to see it, or hugely pixelated. I downloaded the recommended Infranview program to resize my original file, but I still can't figure it out! Help!
