FIFA World Cup 2010.

That was a gift to the USA, I hope they make take advantage of it.

This game is becoming surprisingly physical.
Careful guys, let's not turn this into a grudge match.

It's all starting to get a bit frenetic, a bit desperate.
But it does make for slightly more interesting football.

Meh, a draw. Still, 'twas fun. I won't mind watching another few games.

There's a World Cup on?

Yes, Bear but don't you worry about it.
It's what the rest of the world calls "Football" which is a lot different to that man-handling knock-about seen in the USA under that name.

Frankly, I think the USA played damned well.

They did, but really that was to be expected. After all, they are in the top 16 teams in the world. FIFA actually ranks them 14th in the world. There are a hell of a lot of international teams, so 14th is good enough to put them in the world cup finals.

Aye, and that's cause they're in a bit of a slump. They were in the top five in 2006.

Good game today and a bit of humor to go along with it.

Last night I set up the VCR to record the game.

This morning when I showed up for work I was met by several of my co-workers asking about the Cup and the games. When they found out about the game today they became quiet.

This afternoon I watched as several TV's were pulled from storage and placed at the ends of the three halls and in the Nurses Station. All of these TV's were tuned into the channel showing the Cup Games. Because of this I was able to watch most of the match.

I was also informed that the TV's would remain in their places until the Cup is over per orders of the Boss. (It seems that someone called her and informed her I was interested in the games and was missing those being played over the weekend. SHe decided it was better that I have the oportunity to watch the games in my little bit of free time rather than dealing with the possibility of my sneaking into empty rooms to check out the scores.

What was funny though was how the rest of the staff on the unit seemed to be following the games.

Tomorrow should be another good game or two. I'm looking forward to the game between Germany and Australia.

i saw the last hour, and thought it was a good game, with the Brits outclassing the Americans. at least on offense. twice as many shots on goal, by the Brits. Rooney lived up to his billing. that said, clearly the American defense, esp. the goalie, was top notch; saved their butts.

Thank you. :D

You should do a fast research of the word "soccer". We got it (for some weird reason) from you lot. ;)

Did you see either of the goals?

England scored in the fourth minute of the game -- the quickest goal so far this World cup. An almost classic goal.

The US scored in the 40-something minute when the English goaly muffed an easy save and let it roll over the line before he could corral it.

The US managed a draw, but it was far more than they deserved.

Ghana gets first African-nation win!

Of course, things might have been different if Star Trek (tos) was popular in Serbia; then they'd know that they should have reversed their uniform colors to blue shirts and red shorts. (Sure enough, one red-shirt didn't make it to the end of the episode.)

Ghana won on a penalty kick awarded for a hand-ball in the penalty area, and Serbia was playing a man down because of a red card. They didn't look nearly as talented as they did four years ago and I think this game is going to be the high-point of their world cup.

Ah, missed it. It was too beautiful outside to watch TV. We'll be watching Germany-Australia, though.

Anyone watching?

Anyone gonna place any bets as to the winners?
All over it. I love Green! Well, I love the slow-mo shot of him mouthing FUUU..CK, anyway. I'm playing fantasy football, and I have to say, my players aren't living up to my expectations. My hands are on Italy tomorrow, but Italy traditionally starts slow so ... not confident in that game. However, I am betting Eto'O (Cameroon) will do well for me. We shall see. :)

4:0 it is. Surprised it wasn't more. Germany definitely looks like they mean business! Plus Australia's Cahill got a red card. It seemed a bit excessive to me, but it's not like it looked that good for them anyway.

Azzurri tomorrow--one of my perennial faves, too. No one does drama like them!

Germany is looking dangerous.

Germany was very methodical about their game today. They slowed down the game and picked apart the Australian Defense. On the other hand the Ozzies weren't playing a very fast moving game.

It will be interesting to see how Germnay does against a more fluid team.

Every time the World Cup is played, some wishful journalist writes a story about how soccer is finally catching on in the American big time. Then the tournament ends and American soccer ends up out in the cold again. The players are brutal but the game is sissy. We'd be more likely to embrace rugby if it weren't for all these immigrants booting that silly black and white ball around and off their heads. Heck, I'll bet the American team is 90% foreign born. We just hire a bunch of them . . .
