FIFA World Cup 2010.

Looks like the Octopus was right.

Spain 1 - Germany 0

I have rarely seen a team control the game the way Spain did this one. Their discipline and passing was amazing. Congrats to them, and condolences to Germany and their fans.

Gonna be an interresting final. Last three decades, only five different teams have reached the final. This makes it seven. And niether country has ever won the cup.

I'm sad, obviously, and it was pretty heartbreaking. But we didn't play all that well today and Spain really killed it.

At least they were very gracious winners, from what I saw, and didn't run a conga line through our exit interviews like they did at the Euros. I'm still a little ticked off about that one.

The final will be interesting for sure, though I'll be focused on the third place game and hoping we can go out on a high note against Uruguay.

If you think about it, we've done really well the past eight years. Third place at the World Cup, second at the Euros and now hopefully another third is nothing to sneeze at. I'm proud of the boys, regardless.

Bump 'cause the final is in a few hours. Spain or Netherlands; who is it going to be? Who would you like it to be? Has Paul the octopus picked right again? :)

Shakira's doing part of the pregame festivities. I heart her - sexy hip shaking wholesomeness, performs with a wink and a nod...like Elvis used to do...waka waka

Overtime! No interest in Spain, would ADORE the Dutch to win, I bet on a draw, but going against Paul the octopus's prediction? EEK!

*Yawn*

We all want to see Torres. No doubt he could win the game.

You must be a Liverpool fan. No one else would believe that even if they kept playing until the break of dawn.

I dunno...the more the Dutch are fouling the more I feel myself pulling for Spain. It's like the Dutch don't trust their skill so are trying to even things by getting overly physical. A boot to the chest? C'mon, that should have been a red card.

Indeed! You could however say that Torres's cross led to the goal :). On the other hand you could say he was pretty ineffective and that it was Fabregas's pass and Iniesta's finish that made the goal. I like the first version.

Whee, Spain.

Glad for La Roja; the fouling of the Dutch really didn't endear them to me—and they wouldn't even trade their shirts in the end!

All in all, although none of my faves fared that well, I really enjoyed this WC. I might even come to miss the vuvuzelas. :)

Someone needs to tell the Dutch that it's alright to move the ball to the other team's goal and try to kick it in. There seemed to be some confusion in the matter.

Oh no! Poor Paul! The Oracle octopus has been getting death threats. He'll have to flee for Spain or end up on tonight's menu.

And that it's better to pass the ball to a player of your own team than to the opponent. Seriously. They were second to every ball.

I wasn't able to watch the whole game, but the parts I saw looked like that was a problem for both teams.

From watching the highlights, the Dutch seemed to have the most problem with the concept that there is a hole in the netting at the front of the Goal -- neither team was verry good at getting shots on target, but the dutch seemed very fond of shooting into the side netting -- one Dutch shot from less than five yards (made after an offside call when everyone else had quit playing) even went wide.

I agree with Jomar that it was a very ugly game -- I think the announcer said that the Dutch had 8 of the last ten players playing with yellow cards, not counting the two that got Heiten(sp) sent off in the second half of overtime.

The guy played for ten minutes and looked as tired as the ones that had started the game two hours before. He even fell to the ground with cramps. As for his cross leading to the goal, I'd say that his cross led to the ball being intersected by a Dutch player who lost it again to Fabregas. If the coach had brought in the substitute goalkeeper to replace Torres, the result would have been the same. But what do I know, I'm just a chick who used to base her Fantasy Football players on how good looking they were. Torres was one of them. But this year I decided to be a little more strategic, and ended up winning my league with a 50+ point lead. :p

LOL- so true - saw something on YouTube about Vuvuzela concerts being interrupted by footballers. A sad day, or month, for Vuva-Z players. lol
