when you hit periods of disinterest in writing and then one day you happen to peruse something you wrote in times past, and you go, "wow, that isn't all that horrible" so you feel some interest begin to return, you know, there's that excited feeling, but you sit down to make something new, encouraged by knowing that if you did it at least once you should be able to do it again, but nothing happens, nothing comes, you just stare at the empty space. What the heck's happening with that?

Just write. Might suck, but maybe you'll get the block flowing again. Or maybe try ex-lax.

You need to write past the block, to keep writing, to push yourself until nothing happens.

Then stop, have a coffee break, walk around the block, and get back to writing.

Inspiration is not enough. You need perseverance as well.

(The above message could apply to me too)

Got the coffee part down pretty good. And ideas are plentiful.
Perseverance has always been a problem. It needs to be addressed though.

Well most of it seems to end up sucking or seeming to suck, which is probably why what was being toiled over got put away, or in some (many) instances, cleared from the list. And then it's later I maybe look at them again and think they weren't all that bad, or what was bad could've just been looked at again and worked on and improved. Or maybe reminisce and look at a rather glowing bit of feedback that requested more and I'd promised I would give them the more they wanted, but some wave of discouragement came along and I failed to give the more that I said I would. Feel pretty bad about that. Hm. ex-lax. Hell, it's worth a try.

It means you need a new prescription.

I try to steer clear of this town's pharmacy outlets.

Soon as I posted the above remark and walked away from this machine, I was reminded that we will soon be in a new dwelling. Not a new one, but a different one. So you might be on to more than you intended, though I'll never assume to know anyone's intents. But... New Prescription/New dwelling. A more spacious place. Might be just what the doctor ordered, though not sure exactly who that doctor is; no doubt a very fine one.

I'd invite a couple of AH women over to help you move your furniture; more than a few of them can carry a piano up 6 flights of stairs all by themselves. That alone should inspire you.

I have to say that the women I've corresponded with here have all been pretty damn cool and I'd consider it a privilege and an honor to hang out live and in person with any of them. If anyone's been the occasional prick, it's been me.

that's happened to me a lot...a story i get tired of writing then put away, only to recover it to say, "you know that's not half bad! i wrote this?!" but when you recover a piece you wrote a while back, you are now thinking objectively about it...and not in the vein of thought that made you create it in the first place. you may have to reread it a couple times to get into the momentum of the story and then let the characters take you where they will.

Know exactly what you mean. If I put something away because it starts to look like it hopelessly sucks, then go look at it again maybe a few months later and realize it doesn't suck as much as I thought then, and say to self, "this has potential, so get back on it" but it's hard to get back into it. You used 'momentum' and that's probably it. Lost momentum, because of lacking the perseverance. So maybe the thing is to determine that once you enter that world, stay in til the end. Put all the distractives away. I offer a most respectful salute to those who can commit to the long haul. I have a hard time with it.
