South African police are investigating whether there was a link between homosexual sex and the murder of white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche, police said yesterday.

The lawyer for one of the two black farm workers charged with the killing that heightened racial tensions was quoted as saying that Mr Terreblanche was killed after trying to have sex with at least one of the defendants.

A police spokesman confirmed that was among possibilities being investigated. Police had earlier said a pay dispute had led to the killing of Mr Terreblanche, on the political margins since his efforts to preserve apartheid in the1990s.

Christianity existed in Africa for centuries before reaching Europe. Egypt (of course) but also Nubia and Ethiopia were early centers of Christianity.

Its worth noting that neither the British nor the Dutch nor even the (short-lived) German colonial administrations were interested in spreading Christianity all that much. The Portuguese DID make an effort to spread Catholicism; as a result its the dominant faith in Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde and the Congo. You'd have to look long and hard to find many blacks who go to Dutch Reformed churches.

In fact, most Protestant churches in black Africa are either relatively recent homegrown affairs or the result of American missionaries. The Anglicans are the notable exception to this. But even in the British colonies, Islam spread far more than Christianity did. Right down through the 19th and 20th centuries.
