Day 41: The Obama Oilspill Goes On.

I agree. There are some people who apparently believe The Big O should personally dive to the bottom of the Gulf and plug the leak, just as there were some people who practically blamed The Little W for starting Hurricane Katrina and blowing up the levees to make the flooding worse. Both ideas are nonsense, of course, but some people think along those lines.

According to what I read BIG O sent a battalion of lawyers to Louisiana to direct BP's efforts. A law degree is a license to do just about anything, and a testament of competence in every endeavor. Theyre like Al Capp's SHMOO cartoon character. And when they break it, BIG O buys it.

The Obama Shmoo.

Damn straight. BP broke it. BP buys it.

Don't think so, unless the "rules" have changed.
Occidental's "Piper Alpha" platform in the North Sea killed a lot of people (if I remember right a critical valve thing was mounted upside down).
Union Carbide (Bhopal, India). The jury is still out about how many that's affected.

Neither of these two firms were universally condemned in the same way that BP is at present, apart for a lack of Safety protocols or mismanagement, etc.), but the firms concerned just got on with the job.

So why not leave BP to get on with it as best they may?

If the USA wants the oil, the got to take the rough with the smooth.

The BP fiasco is now a metaphor for the Obama Regime's impotence, incompetence, and collusion with BIG ENERGY. Every day it continues Obama looks more like a gofer than a leader.

I woulda summarily shot the CEO of BP.

.
A quick google refreshes my memory; Piper Alpha blew up in 1976, Union carbide fucked Bophal up in 1984. If either of those things had happened now in the age of internet, you would see much more public awareness. Depending on the American public's level of navel-gazing, of course-- since the Gulf is OUR gulf, of course, it's probably more important to many folk here in the good ole USA...

And that is true too.

On the other hand, if BP wants to reap 3trillion bucks a year or whatever the amount is, they have to take the rough with the smooth. There's no resentment like the resentment of a group of people who have just realised that they've trapped themselves into dependency.

And try to stuff his body in the hole to plug it?

You're full of useful suggestions, aren't you? :D

You didnt like my idea to paint Hillary's hips/ass with baker's grease and stuff her in the pipe.

I didn't know you had suggested that. Since you are pushing the idea, let's use you first. Most expendable material first, don't 'cha think?

Depends on your POV. If you're an ignorant Tea Bagger drowning in Right Wing propaganda, of course it's Obama's fault. However, if you look at the record, it all comes back to Bush/Cheney staffing the MMS with oil company stooges, and oil companies paying off conservatives on Capital Hill to make sure no new safety regulations are passed. But if it makes you feel better blaming Obama, go right ahead. Obviously, you'll do whatever it takes to get you through the day. Man, you must have a hard life.

well, you are correct as regards blame. if a dog pisses on a white house guard's shoe, ami, coulter and glen will say Obama dissed our Great Nation.

that said, we can look at RESPONSE. and i must say, i'm not very impressed. i'm no repugnican type, but i'm pissed we apparently have the most centrist democrat in the US; whose triangulations put Hillary in the shade.

as with big banks, now with big oil, there is too much catering. and the results will likely be similar. the big banks' solution was 'give us money'. and the expected 'breaks' for homeowners and buyers never happened. big oil's solution is emerging -- aside from issuing denials. there is every reason to think that the proper response in terms of tightening regulations and getting oil co. flunkeys off the regulatory commissions , will NOT happen.

But nuthin happened on Bush's watch, and Obama made no improvements since taking office. There's a stiff legal distinction between threatened harm and injury.

I mean, we can go back to Nixon's presidency to place blame for the 2008 financial meltdown; every administration winked at the bullshit Congress and Wall Street perpetrated; but it was Bush got his tit caught in the wringer. When the music stopped Dubya had no chair.

PREDICTION:

Obama is nervous about BP collapsing, then running away before the US gets any money. Look for Obama to demand major cash collateral from BP, then expect BP to haul ass in the middle of the night.

Great. I love your predictions. Based on your last national election predictions, Obama will make out well with this one.

(I think BP is going to haul ass in the middle of the night regardless. So much for "big business will take care of you; just let the markets do their natural thing.")

Youre pretty silent about all the recent contests Democrats lost.

Youre pretty silent about all the recent contests Democrats lost.

I've been busy writing erotica.

You, in turn, haven't noticed that all of the incombents, regardless of party, took it in the neck in the most recent election. Voters are trying to find someone else other than themselves to blame.

You're prediction history is just that--history. Anyone can search back and find your truly laughable predictions.

Right ...

Damn straight. BP broke it. BP buys it.

That's about as simple as you can say it and BP doesn't even dispute it but it doesn't solve the problem.
I can tell you with complete certainty that the entity most interested in stopping this disaster is BP. They have every reason to get it done as quickly as possible and only BP can do it. Get used to that small problem.
