GOP - harsh reminder that they're old, clueless white guys

"Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative. "

'Conservativism is the repose of the intellectually challenged, racist, and otherwise tribal elements of society...Only those with superior intellect can be progressives.....'

Yes. This seems to be where the anti-intellectualism enters the picture. The pride in ignorance. The refusal to grasp the complexity of issues, relying instead on platitudes and 'common sense' rules. The defensive reliance on judgement and stereotype in relations with other cultures. The appeal to authoritarian figures. I really see it as a personality defect when taken to extremes.

Nice of you both to prove the elitist attitude of Liberals - if it needed proving. :(

See my last post.

I'm so fucking sick of people trying to put me (and others like me) down for being intelligent and educated.

Do you even have an inkling of how horrible the education system here in the states is compared to other developed countries? Students from Harvard and Yale can't even compete with high school graduates from Japan, for fuck's sake. And I'm going to lay that problem squarely at your feet...yours, and people that think like you do, that it's somehow morally superior to be stupid.

If you want to call me an "elitest" because I'm fucking smart, and very well-educated, then I'm a fucking elitest. But, you can take that attitude, Box, and stick it right up your ass where it belongs.

Oh, fuck off.

I'm so tired of being made to feel apologetic for being educated.

LEARN more. Research the idiots whose words you cling to.

Wait. Should I put this emoticon?

I agree whole-heartedly the educational systerm is tremendously screwed up. I was fortunate in that I graduated from high school in 1957, before it got so screwed up. For diverse reasons, I had no interest in college then, but I did attend later and got a degree in 1983.

I have never had any connection with the educational system, except as a student, but I have never expressed the belief that stupidity is a virtue. I did refer to Liberals as elitists in response to the recent posts by Stella and Huck and DL where they expressed contempt for those they considered to be less educated than they or less intelligent. :(

Prove us wrong.

Or, alternatively, you could insist that being dim and proud of it is a fundamental American Principle.

Yes. Three wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, sexy women in a row...the triple hit point ain't gettin' no better than this!

I remember the election of 1968 when George Wallace scorned the "pointy-headed intellectuals who didn't even know how to fix a bicycle." I didn't agree with much of what Wallace stood for, but I did agree with what he said then. There are a good many ivory-tower types who think of themselves as intellectuals and who have contempt for anybody they consider to be less educated or less intelligent than they. Frequently such people know a lot about very little, and are what Wallace was referring to. :(

Educated? You? Please. Youre the Princess of Affirmative Action. Lady Whazzmuhchek.

Should I admire stupid people?

Should I trust the uneducated to make decisions that affect me, when what I am doesn't even ping in the limited world of the conservative dimwits?

By and large, stupid people are attracted to conservatism. It's easy. it does not require thought. You can be proud that you've got exactly what your daddy had. The conservative world is filled with other conservative people, and anyone who can't live in it is the enemy of conservatism, plain and simple. And you know who can't live in a a conservative world? The well-educated. You do have a connection with education. it's a negative one, unfortunately.

By the way-- I have no college degree. None. But I am smarter, and more educated than you are, because it is easy to keep on learning.

He was talking, specifically about federally appointed judges, because he was a proponent of state's rights-- and the feds told him to end the segregation in Alabama. Like you, he was complaining about the people he could not control.

George Wallace also said;

“Sure, I look like a white man. But my heart is as black as anyone's here.” :D So it's hard to worry about his disregard for intelligence.

I know how to fix a bicycle.

Even better, I know how to learn how to fix a bicycle. That's intellect at work. Wallace knew how to learn, too. He kinda sorta changed his life around a little bit, there at the end.

To simplify: Conservatives fear knowledge, Liberals embrace knowledge.

Conservatives fear knowledge because it threatens their reality - a reality based on the denial of facts. How many times have we heard Box say "I don't trust that source" when the source was simply imparting verifiable facts?

It's not the college degree that matters, it's the ability to learn. Having the ability to learn is not elitist, it's just common sense. Liberal Elitist is simply a label coined by rich conservatives like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, who are so insulated in their millionaire lifestyles, they are the epitome of the word elitist.

You wouldn't know 'elitist' if it bit you on the dick.

You're the one constantly starting threads about how your pinheaded point of view is better than anyone else's, because it doesn't tax or because it's anti-government or because people who don't think like you do are being duped somehow by an amorphous 'liberal media' that exists only in your mind and the minds of sheep like you who can be easily herded.

Your whole worldview is predicated on the idea that, despite the world telling you repeatedly that you're not the sharpest tack in the box, you nonetheless have some type of imparted old-white-guy wisdom that is superior to everyone else's. And that is simply not true.

If you want to solve society's problems, you need to engage them as they are, not as you think they should be. You need to be able to see different points of view in relation to solving the specific problem at hand, and try to choose the most effective way in terms of the desired outcome. In short, you need to be pretty ruthless in cutting your own dogmatic expectations out of the equation.

You don't seem to be able to do that. But don't think that attitude or whatever it is entitles you to any moral superiority simply because you think it's based on an ideology.

I have no ideology, and your kind calls that weak. Who is the elitist?

I support proven governmental solutions to societal problems that the private sector has screwed up, and your kind calls that socialist. Who is placing themselves above the other?

Your kind are the ones claiming to be victims of government intrusion, even as you have a higher proportion of relying on government payments. This obsession over 'handouts' looks more like petty fighting over benefit qualifications than any principle.

Hey Huck, how's the guvmint response to the oil spill working out for you?

From where I sit it looks like commencement at the affirmative action college. Lotsa talk and little performance.

Dear Reader,

Our unclear friend, CLOUDY, is playing MOVEON.ORG's/ACORN's latest game: POSE AS A TEA BAGGER AND ACT GOOFY.

The truth is politicians come in one flavor, ME. Theyre so full of themselves there's no room for anything like ethics or principles or convictions. ME is their conviction and creed. Everything else is kabuki theatre, and CLOUDY eats it up.
Take off the tinfoil hat, dude.

Its what ya know thats important, ROB.

The little you claim to know is mostly nonsense; whereas a conservative knows: there's no free lunch, most people are endowed by God to pick cotton and play basketball and breed like mosquitos, and very little gets done until a conservative does it. The conservative also knows he pays for your free lunch.
