I'm normally at the stove or on the toilet or in the kids room separating children before they kill eachother. You might think this is boring, but that's cause you've never had to get in between my kids when they're fighting.

I work from home also. After about a year of work/child/work/child/work/child/errands/child/work/repeat I discovered this handy program called webshots. It puts a calendar on your desktop and highlights the day. Very handy for the days when you're not sure what month it is.

As to the original question, I don't live with my PYL's and we most of our time is now at events due to some life issues. If I arrive at the event first I usually stand outside and wait so I'm available for packing duty. If they arrive first they allow me time to get my purse/bag dealt with and then they usually tell me where they want me. The telling me where they want me usually holds true for the entire evening.
