It's a speedway weekend here too. Hubby is at ellenbrook speedway helping a mate out in the pits for the australian street stock title. because of the distance from home he's spending the weekend up there and won't be home until monday. I'm itching to be there for the big race but am unable to drive cos i'm still wearing the sling.... grhhhh But such is life.

icr's raindance extended all the way down here!
in the last 48hrs, we've had over 50ml of rain, gale force winds, power out for 39 of those 48 hrs, and mobile phones out as well.
and the radio tells me it's going to continue for another day at least.

i'm posting now in one of those rare times the power has actually stayed on for longer than 15 minutes.....

We get weather like that now too. We are moving in to summer and you are moving in to winter.

I'm on right now as we are in a lull in the storms. If lucky the bad stuff will stay to my south for much of the day, but then tonight.

Ah the joys of country life...I remember them well
Just about every time there was a storm the power would go out. Candles and torches within reach at all times at night. Sometimes the lightning would put our TV aerial booster out so no TV until it got fixed (that really used to piss me off! ).

Once a willow tree a paddock across from the house lost its footing on the hill and slid down to the bottom and over the fence and wrecked it - wasn't the ex pleased about that Kids sent home from school because of potential flooding. Hoping the bridge across the creek would not wash away because that was the only access to the house....oh boy am I happy I'm living in civilisation

LOL everyone seems to know BANDIT rads her books up on the hill but she is keen to WATCH the KIWIS "show the Aussies how to win"

So nice to see you. Nodding civilization has definite advantages. Like you say at least power gets restored more quickly when it goes out. My parents have retired to NC in the states. They live in the city, but they are up the mountain. Takes a bit of time to get to them. My Dad has a generator he can fire up for when that happens. So they may be out for a couple of days, people further out and up can wait weeks.

Hope you took a good book with you sweetie as it seems to me the race didn't happen due to MN. Mother Nature has been a real tease this year.

in between power cuts and phone outages, i haven't been able to speak to HIM for a couple of days
that's really starting to bug me, as we're on opposite sides of the country at the moment.

it would be nice if the power would stay on for a few hours straight - lucky i have a gas camp stove, or i wouldn't even be able to have a coffee!

How is everyone tonight ..my Saturday turn not that bad .. took my son for a little haircut also i had a trim .. them the in-law call and asked if we not busy and we can have lunch there we had fish and salad.. glad i had no cooking lol

later we call a friend to see how they are ...then while talking they asked if we wanted to go there at the evening and we can go out together and have dinner..

so we went there and went to a Greek place we had some very nice dinner we had some mix food with seafood having crab, oysters, calamari, some prawns ..also another mix with souvlakia, lamb cutlets and chips.. ..was nice after we finish we got up and dance for a long time there was a live music there.

ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. This day marks the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at a place called Gallipoli in Turkey on April 25 1915.

However it's turned into something similar to your Remembrance Day, the day remembers all soldiers who served or are serving in all wars.

Pretty much the day that Australia fully became a nation

In WW1 at a place called Gallipolli (on the turkish peninsular) thousands of Australian and New Zealand soldiers (Called ANZACS - stood for Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) stormed ashore at a place now called ANZAC Cove (landed in the wrong spot) on 25 April 1915.
They were met with a murderous hail of enemy fire - but still managed to gain ground and held onto it untill the British generals (who fucked it all up in the first place) decided it was time to leave.
The whole reason for the landing was to try and put an early stop to the war by invading Turkey and then attacking Germany from behind

So every April 25 Australia and our New Zealand brothers and sisters stop to remember our fallen heroes not only in WW1 but in other conflicts around the world that Aussies and Kiwi's have been in, right up until and including present day

Yep I think that's when I first remember seeing him on TV when I was a teenager..I also have a friend who likes that clever humour as well. One of my fav's was his uncle (I think it was) who invented a soft drink 5 up then 6 up, then died of a broken heart no knowing how close he was. But I guess the all time fav for me was when he announced that his family had celebrated the 103rd birthday of a family member...to loud applause of the audience..only then to tell them "unfortunately he couldn't make it...he died when he was 29"...got everyone with that one.
