Is it worth fixing?

So I found a typo in an old story I wrote. Not the worst thing in the world, but it's stupid: Instead of "ear", I apparently typed "year".

I suppose I could copy the whole story and resubmit it, but it seems like even if that's not a lot of work for someone, it's giving an administrator at least a little hassle for one letter. But it's one letter that bugs me. Should I just shrug it off and assume people will figure it out?

Typos bug authors...editors just move on

I had a good editor, but then I made some last-minute changes in the only story I've posted here.

Found a couple of typos and fixed them, resubmitted the story and felt good.

Six months later...spotted one other typo. I thought I'd leave it alone, but it bugged me.

You only have to change one letter...I had to add an apostophe-s.

Go for it!

If it's bugging you, post the edit. The fact that you posted a thread says to me that it's bothering you, so go for it :D

Lit Editing Process for text of the story: ( Just because this question always comes up, even if the OP knows how to do it *laugh* )

  • Start a new submission
  • In "Title" use the same title ( or as much as will fit ) as your original story/chapter + something like *EDIT*
  • Select the same category, and fill in other fields ( description, keywords ) with placeholders. They don't matter.
  • Paste/upload the new, edited text
  • In the "Notes" field, say that this is an edit of an existing submission's story text. It can't hurt to reference the Lit ID# of the story ( the numbers at the end of the url in your browser window when you view the first page of your story ) to avoid any question about what story/chapter you're editing
  • Preview and submit as you would a new story/chapter

Approval of edits is subject to the same wait time in the queue as for a new story. I have seen edits go through a lot quicker -- and in bulk -- than new stories quite often, though.

If you spotted said mistake it's likely not the only one. Few people can self-edit effectively; even I goof (not professing myself to be anything more than human).

My plate is empty. PM if interested. Depending on length (of the story) I can have it back fairly quickly.

Your choice.

Also when you do submit an edit, don't panic if it vanishes from your list of submissions. Just wait a day or two and see if your original story has been changed.
