but not much because here I go at it again. I made a pretty stupid comment on a thread I started, not the first and certainly will not the last. You either play pretty or stick your toe in the water. I like to stick my toe in the water on occasion, its funnerer.
For the second time it appears my poetry took a hit because of a post I did on a thread. Of course, I'm assuming that happened because there is no way I can confirm who gave me the one. The poem in question is pretty good and had scored well with 14 straight fives before the one. Subsequently, the poem dropped off the tops list. I don't claim I'm a great poet because I'm not. I put words and pretty pictures together, and some like it.
The timing is what makes me think it is retaliation as a result of a post on a thread. So be it. I'll not change my opinions for that factor, then the trolls win. It still pisses me off. I also accuse no one because I have no right, and it could be that someone simply hated the poem (which they are entitled to do).
As a relative noobie (less than a year at lit), i ask if this is a common practice? Because it happened once before after I started a controversial thread at the AH--each of my poems was banged with a one. These were subsequently removed in a process called sweeping (so I've heard that's what it's called).
Mind you, if a piece deserves a one, I deserve to get it, and everyone is entitled to an opinion (but in this case the person who gave me the one was dead wrong--I have many poems that certainly deserve less than stellar ratings--not this one).
I would like to hear if anyone has similar experiences, and what, if anything you do about it.
As an aside, I believe that punishing a person for a post on a piece of poetry or a story is chickenshit. Score the work separate from the person.
