Uummm not all of us. I still use bags of milk like this and I'd hazard a guess from the amount and variety of milk containers that this is the most popular in the Canadian city that I live in.

Y'all are crazy. I have no problem with French French or Canadian French. Haitian Creole IS another language, though. But I learned French from a Parisian and have had no problems in Quebec.

Oh yeah, and on the screw things - I used to do some work in the summers at the company where my dad worked, a furniture delivery and installation thing, and if the Allen-headed screw became the world standard overnight I would have wept with joy.

If you’ve screwed a lot, you know how frustrating it is to cam out (slip) when you’re trying to get the job done. For us Canucks, that problem was solved by the ingenious P.L. Robertson, inventor of the Robertson screw and screw driver.

Getting Hip to Canadian Music

Inspired by MisterSir’s whining about the Maple Leafs, I decided to share with you my favourite all time Canadian band…the Tragically Hip.

Now, if you want to blend in with the Canucks, however, you must simply refer to them as “The Hip”. Kind of rock, kind of blues, kind of soul, kind of funky, kind of artsy, The Hip are the kind of band that’s perfect to listen to as you chill out by your favourite lake.

Several of their songs are about real Canadian people and events, such as “50 Mission Cap” about hockey star Bill Barilko, of the Toronto Maple Leafs, or “Pigeon Camera” about a failed WWI experiment using pigeons with cameras on their legs to do aerial surveillance. But the one that always gets me is “Wheat Kings” about David Milgaard, a Canadian man wrongly convicted of murder, who spent the better part of his life in jail before finally being freed.

Canada is a self-governing democracy, yet still a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as the legal head of state. Her appointed viceroys, the governor general (acting head of state), and provincial lieutenant-governors, perform most of the monarch's ceremonial roles.

So, all the pomp and pageantry of royalty but little direct effect on governing of the country. Kind of 'royalty lite'.

I worked on a show with this guy. Between him and the two other comedians on the show, I was in a constant state of "peeing my pants laughing".

Actually, I think Russel Peters does better Canuck humour...well, Indo-Canuck humour, to be precise, but Kelamis is also good. He's funny in RL, too. Actually, you'd probably like that show. It was an MOW called "The Sports Pages". Don't know if you can find it in any video store but apparently it was pretty good - I've never seen it.

So these two loggers from up around the Gaspé drove down to Old Orchard Beach in Maine because they heard that it was a great summer vacation spot and that it was usually filled with other Québecois all summer (which is true). They took off on a Saturday morning but were back at home the following Monday, quite disappointed. Their report to their friends went like this:

Friends: Pierre et Guy, how come you come back so soon, you?

Pierre: We was driving down 95, you know and we see this big green sign dat say "Old Orchard Beach Left." So we hadda come home, us. Where it go we wanna know?
