I'm new here and I just submitted my first story.

I have three genre novels published (small press, nothing big), but over the last few years I have had no luck with short stories. No luck. None. I'm here to work on my short stories. The way I see it, I don't sit around thinking about genre fiction, but I do sit around thinking about sex all the time. Therefore, it only stands to reason that the best way to work on my short stories is to write erotica. In other words, I am looking for feedback.

One problem I have when writing short stories is wrapping up the tale before it gets too long. As a result, I'm trying to make my erotic stories as short as possible, attempting to get plot, character development, and of course hot steamy sex, all in as small a space as possible. So far so good, my first submitted story was only about 1500 words and the two I'm playing with now are only a little longer (considering I once complained that I couldn't write a grocery list in less than 5000 words, that's pretty good).

Anyway, pleased to meet all of you, I hope you enjoy my stories.

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

If you were to post the link to your story, it would make it easier for us lazy-asses to find it and read it. As you may have noticed, many around here add a link to their LIT stories, or other stories too, in their sig line.

Here's a link to a LIT author you might like. She hasn't posted since 2001, which is a shame. Her stories are short and plot-driven, usually with a twist ending. As you will notice she has three Green E's out of seven stories, which is pretty impressive. (Green E's indicate Editor's Choice, which means a LIT editor thought it was an exceptional piece of work.)

I just submitted it this afternoon, so it isn't up yet. Since it's the first story I've submitted here, I have nothing to link. However, thanks for explaining that to me; as soon as I hear back from the submission I'll add a link to my sig.

And I was wondering about the E's; thanks for explaining that one before I even had to ask.

By now I'm assuming you've noticed the Earth Day Contest thread? Entering a story is a good way to get more readers, plus you can win some money if you tap into what the voting public is looking for. What the public is looking for seems to be undefinable, since all sorts of stories win, from the heartfelt to the pure stroke-fests.

Yes, welcome to the Monkey House and good luck with your project.

Heck, if you're published you're a long way ahead of a lot of us here. I really, really want to get my serious stuff published - but no joy yet :-(

Welcome, by the way. The Author's Hangout is often good but gets a bit political sometimes; I tend to hang out on the BDSM forum, 'cause that's the way I'm kinked. Do not let the politics grind you down (and avoid the General Board, because if the Author's Hangout gets political, I don't know what you call what the General Board gets!)

Get some fairy-tale collections from the library and read them till you want to scream; they'll teach you all you need to know about short stories, guaranteed.
