The Valentine's Day Contest Support Thread 2010

Gawd I shoulda guessed that if Frick showed up that Frack wouldn’t be far behind.

http://www.sweetietweeties.com/images/Frick%20_%20Frack.jpg

QUOTE banana boy :nana: As for your AIR awards, they are just that, Hot AIR. Where do you get your numbers from? Manu is the only one with access to the real numbers at the end of the contest.

Or should I say dumb and dumber.

At one time the numbers weren’t available at the end of a contest – in fact they were a state guarded secret (and we all know why).

However bb that is no longer true.

ScouriesWorld now announces four A.I.R. AWARDS at the end of each contest:

MOST VIEWS: Gaby simply has to go to the new “most read last 30 days” list and find the CONTEST story that has the most views.

MOST COMMENTS: For this one Gaby consults the “most comments last 30 days” list and finds the CONTEST story with the most comments.

MOST VOTES: More difficult for Gaby but by perusing the “highest rated by category lists” for the last thirty days she can find the most voted on story in the CONTEST.

HIGHEST RATED: LAUREL of course provides this one when she announces her winners.

So now bb you know. Sometimes I have to wonder why you don’t sit back and think a second before you post…

Oh, I think believe me, that's why you're bullshit always stands out. There is no such place as scouriesworld except in your mind so you and your alts are the ASSociation of INDEPENDENT READERS

MOST VIEWS: Keep clicking on the button and you can get there easily. Thumb calluses can be a problem though.

MOST COMMENTS: Answer every comment with one of your own. That easily doubles the number. Oh, and don't forget to have all your alts do the same thing.

MOST VOTES: Put the story in Incest, you get the most votes every time. You already know and use that one.

HIGHEST RATED: The only one that is real.

Now, why don't you cut out the bullshit and work on learning to write. That's the way to win a contest. To you it's all about the numbers. To people who actually win contests, it's all about the words.

By the Way, Congrats to the true winner, Mia.:rose::kiss:

So, I take it you have nothing to back up that "nonsense" charge then, scouries?

( As if there was any way to do so )

Oh, and your "answer" to TX is nonsense, and you even pointed out it was nonsense by agreeing that there was absolutely no way to see anyone's numbers but your own in real time in your response to my previous post.

You also fail to address his primary point that your "awards" are little more than an accolade for who can click buttons the fastest.

But do keep looking silly.

I don't understand how the voting and rating system works. It might appear to be a lottery in that almost any story could win at the last minute BUT in my opinion ALL the winning stories are worthy of their prize.

However, I also think that the standard of entries has improved. The Last Place (tm) Winner could be as good a story as those that win the main contest but is less well rated because of several factors such as category, length or even the title.

If I had time to do the research it might be interesting to compile a thread of links to the Last Place stories. They are worth re-reading.

You can never admit you’re wrong can you? You asked a very simple question:

QUOTE banana boy :nana: Where do you get your numbers from? Manu is the only one with access to the real numbers at the end of the contest.

I answered you. In simple enough terms even you could understand.

Do you then answer, “Thanks Jim for enlightening me”? Do you admit you were wrong?

No you don’t bb!.

Instead you suggest that, even if the numbers and results of the A.I.R. AWARDS are in fact accurate, the winning authors only won by cheating or by category selection.

The winner of this year’s VALENTINES CONTEST A.I.R. AWARD for most views is slow_and_gentle and you accuse her/him of sitting at home clicking open and shut his/her story 90,000 times. Somehow I think not.

The lovely sarahhh :rose: won the VALENTINES CONTEST A.I.R. AWARD for most comments. Now everyone knows you hate her, that her status as LITEROTICA’S FAVORITEST AUTHOR sticks in your Texas craw, but even you have to concede she invariably draws more comments than any other author on the site. And no matter how many aspersions you cast on her character she’ll always get more comments than you. Can the 1800+ LITEROTICANS who’ve named her FAVORITE be wrong. Or are you wrong again?

Yours truly, james r (and yes there is a ScouriesWorld), won the VALENTINES CONTEST A.I.R. AWARD for most votes. You suggest that it was because it was an Incest story (quote bb Put the story in Incest, you get the most votes every time. You already know and use that one). It’s really hard to argue with you when you display your ignorance so openly – FYI the winning story was a LOVING WIVES one!

mia farrow won the VALENTINES CONTEST A.I.R. AWARD for highest rated story. Good for her. This award you defend. Mind you this is the only one we can’t verify. In fact it’s the one where the author herself (throughout the contest) reported the bizarre changes in vote totals and rating.

Keep calling me names James. That just tells me that I've hit a nerve and got the truth out to people about your bullshit.

Eek. I'm just so ridiculously grateful that people firstly took the time to read my story (I'm brand new to the site - they had no reason to, and I have over 6500 reads). Secondly, I'm thrilled that over 100 people voted for it and it has a little red H.

Surely, in the grand scheme of things i.e. writing for this site, what the contest has done is provide a pleasurable outlet for us as writers, a pleasurable experience for others as readers, and a little boost for the people who were lucky enough to receive the highest ratings.

Anyway, I thought this thread is after all the "Support" thread...it seems to have gone a little off-topic.

No. It's not off topic. We're talking about winning the Last Place Award, now.

I'm stomping my foot, putting my hands on my hips and screaming, "I don't want to win it, people!"

BTW....Nice job, Sugar! How'd you end up on Lit, anyway? Do you have encouraging friends here?

You don't have to win it.

You have stated your rating. Some others have. Others haven't.

The Last Place (tm) Contest has to be claimed (as does the main contest). If others are shy, you don't have to be the winner. You could go back through your posts and edit out your figures.

I could claim it.;) I didn't finish my two Valentine's Day entries so I didn't get any votes and my rating is ZERO. But I've disqualified myself from Last Place (tm) Contests because I came last too often.

...

Anyway, I thought this thread is after all the "Support" thread...it seems to have gone a little off-topic.

It is surprising, and pleasing, that these contest support threads stay on topic as much as they do. Many threads get off-topic before the end of the first page.

Arguing about the system for rejecting invalid votes is on-topic. The system seems to work in a bizarre way. However, making the rules for reducing votes explicit could lead to manipulation and even outright cheating - more than already happens now.

All the Literotica Contests, the themed ones, the monthly ones and Survivor, are really for entertainment and amusement. No one is going to get rich winning Literotica's prize money. It's like Poker - a friendly game with winnings in cents will be as hard fought and deadly as a game with serious money at stake. The passions aroused by these contests are understandable. We all want to win, and we don't want to lose because someone else might have bent the rules.

What is good is that the standard of entries continues to be so high.

Absolutely agree with you Og - I just got a little worried by the bickering. I've not been around long enough to know how seriously to take it all, but I suppose it just struck me as smacking a little of some people being bad losers in some of the posts above! When I said it had gone off topic, I simply meant that surely we were supposed to "support" one another in the contest, not make accusations of foul play when we don't win!

I never intended to offend in my post, so apologies if I did.

As for how I got here, Sin, I have been an on-off reader for about a year or more and I just got a notion for writing. I ventured here to talk to some others about it because I don't know anyone on the site already. It's been really nice to talk to you all here :)

Sugar xx :)

Sugar, believe it or not, everyone is very nice (in their own way). You have to understand that you are surrounded by very intelligent and creative people who are practicing their craft. You will realize that some are a little bit more flamboyant than others (they are all gay), some are quiet (like the jerks who won't come forward and post their lousy scores-the castrated ones), and some just like to fight and get everybody going (the button pushers-those are the accountants and lesbians). Me? I just can't spell, like to drink and write crappy stories. :D Basically, I'm just here having fun.

Hang around for awhile. You'll get used to us, or turn into one of us--your choice.

Now, Mr. Og, whenever you are ready to bestow that Last Place honor on me, I'll be glad to accept it in the name of all of the other piss-poor writers in the contest, cuz I know they are out there. Scouries made the official announcement and I believe every word he writes. Lay it on me whenever you are ready, but not before it's proper time.

See if you can commission one of those artists out there to draw up a proper trophy figure for the occasion. I really would like to post it if I'm going to win it two years in a row.

I usually wait until the following weekend for the formal announcement in case someone wants to admit their low scores.

Perhaps you could post a thread in the visual artists sub-forum asking for a trophy design suitable to show in your signature? The Last Place (tm) Contest is run on a zero budget basis.

Og

PS. I answer to Og, oggbashan, the cake on the head guy, but if you want to use my title, it isn't Mr.

I'm a King - King Og of Bashan, he of the numerous wives, concubines and a very large bed. When I'm not Og, I pretend to be King Henry VIII, he of the numerous sequential wives...

Forgive me for getting your title wrong, Your Royal Highness!

I'll see what I can do in the Artist's Corner for a trophy. With a zero commission, it might not be very good, but that will fit the award.

PS. I always thought that was white cat sitting on top of your hat, not a cake. Go figure.

slightly off topic Lit question

If you have a volunteer editor working with you, what Lit platforms are there to recognize that person if you feel like they're doing a great job... other than naming them at the beginning of your story? Is there a way to communicate back to Lit that an editor is great... or terrible?! I apologize that this question isn't directly contest related, but I'm an inquiring mind and the people with all the answers hang out around here :)

I would say to go to the Editors Forum and leave a message there in it's own thread. If it's something bad about an Editor I would use some discretion, after all they do it for free.

The management of Lit do look through the threads. I'm sure they would see it. You could leave them a PM also, but that's up to you. They are rather busy people. Hope this helps.

Og, Thobbs has cum (couldn't resist - he's a penis) up with a suitable trophy for the Last Place Contest award. It's in the artist's corner. How do you want to handle it? Barb

It is up to the winner to decide how they want to celebrate the magnificence of their achievement of the Last Place (tm) Award. If you want to include Throbbs design in your signature to mark your success, then you can, because:

YourSINSerely

is the

Winner

of the

2010 Valentine's Day Authors' Hangout Last Place (tm) Contest.

Congratulations! :nana::nana::nana:

Thank you, Og, I think. We can finally close the chapter on this one. I want everyone to know that I finished this contest with a 4.26 rating and since all of the advertising has gone out, it is now down to a 4.16. Wonderful!

I'd like to thank Throbbs from the artists group for creating the signature trophy for this award. I will display it proudly in my signature until the end of the next contest when I will gladly hand it over to the next winner of your Last Place Contest (TM).

If somebody wants to send me a PM on how to post a larger picture, please do. I can't figure it out. Otherwise, please visit the thread in the artist's corner where Throbbs has large pics posted. He did a really great job for us.

I love the trophy. Wish it was around when I won it for the summer contest and the holiday contest. I might have even won it for the earth day contest last year too- I don't remember.

I can't believe how many views Ghost of a Chance has now. I had under 6,000 at the end of the contest and now I have 26,0000. People have been so nice with kind emails and comments. So now I've been on both sides of the spectrum. It's all good.

Good for you, Mia! You deserve all of those views and congrats, again, on your win!

I will gladly pass on this trophy to the next winner. Let's hope its not me or you the next time. We've had our fair share. I'm thinking about encouraging really bad writers to submit stories to the next contest. :D Me, the mentor! Can you imagine, that?
