Hiro Kagekaze
Age: 28
Hair: Short, black
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 160 lbs.

A champion martial artist and video gamer, he combined his talents with the abilities to move stealthily and blindly to become a rookie Battlemech pilot that fit in with House Kurita's First Sword of Light's style of combat - fighting at night, relying on little information only from sensors and combat instinct, at close quarters including with melee weapons.

Hiro was second overall in death-from-above kills, behind only his Chu-sa (lieutenant colonel and battalion commander). A graduate of the prestigious elite Sun Zhang Academy, Hiro was drafted by the regiment instead of joining a training cadre. He was also first overall in having sex with female relatives of officers. When he was caught ejaculating on the wing commander's 18 year old daughter, Hiro was thrown in prison for rape despite the girl's consent and legal status.

Now that Hiro is out of prison, he's as horny as ever. Perhaps a little time in the cockpit of a mech will help him keep his mind off of it.

Hiro Kagekaze's Mech - Designation Wolverine

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/images/c/c6/Wolverine.jpg
Specifications
Manufacturer: Kallon Industries
Model: WVR-6R
Class: Medium
Height: 11 Meters
Weight: 55 tons
Jump Jets: Northrup 12000
Speed: 86.4 km/h
Weaponry:
1 Autocannon/5
1 SRM-6 Missile System
1 Medium Laser

History:
A jack of all trades design used for fast assault and direct fire-support, the Wolverine has endeared itself to warriors throughout the Inner Sphere. With a modest, but balanced, armament the Wolverine sacrifices punch for durability. It's armor allows it to absorb a great deal of punishment before the design suffers critical failure. One noted flaw in the Mech's design, however, lay in the tendency of its Jump Jets to fail. This has never been corrected and commonly leads to them being taken off entirely.

Chao Zhen

Name: Chao Zhen
Age: 28
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 152 lbs.
Appearance: Here
Martial Art: Fringe Capellan Kung-Fu
Crime: Political Espionage and Interplanetary Terrorism
Attitude: Having come from nothing, Chao is awed by many things within the core worlds, but tries not to show weakness in any outward manner. His pride is immense and he’s willing to fight at the drop of a hat, for any or no reason. He despises authority but understands its purpose. He’s impulsive but makes an effort to have purpose. Like a burning flame with ice in his veins.

Bio: In the fringe systems the universe is much smaller. Poverty prevents most citizens from ever leaving their home world, but it is the dream of nearly every young man to someday leave and make it into the core systems. On Chao’s home planet resources are so scarce that populations are regimentally controlled and public executions are commonplace.

Who will live and who will die is determined on a weekly basis by combat tournaments, where fighters challenge for higher spots in the rankings. By the end of the month, the fifty lowest scores are put to death. Chao knew only combat, and reigned for many years as champion having trained his body and skills from the time he was able to walk.

Everything changed when his lover Xiu found herself one spot below the cutoff for the women’s bracket. Suddenly Chao’s victories and status meant nothing and he was powerless to save her. The day after Xiu’s death, Chao hijacked a transport craft that was delivering the meager supplies that House Liao provided them. Chao vowed to no longer kill his own people under the thumb of oppression, that it was better to die on his feet than live on his knees.

The mission never had a prayer of succeeding. Even Chao’s considerable skills in combat and piloting, he was gunned down within minutes of breaking orbit and was lucky to survive the crash. Injured, displaced and defeated; Chao was locked in prison until the day he was recruited into Rylan’s Roughriders where he bluffed his way into a machine he’d never even imagined in his life back home…

Neela Cranyz's Mech - Designation Hellbringer

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/images/1/16/Loki.jpg
Specifications:
Manufacturer: Various
Model: Prime
Class: Heavy
Height: 13 Meters
Weight: 65 tons
Jump Jets: None
Speed: 86.4 km/h
Weaponry:
1 Anti-Missile System
2 ER PPCs
4 Anti-Personnel Pods
3 ER Medium Lasers
1 Streak SRM-6 Missile Systems
2 Anti-Infantry Machine Guns

History:
A clan design favored by Clan Jade Falcon the Hellbringer is named aptly for the massive weapons load-out and vast amount of devastation it can bring to the table. The Hellbringer easily out-guns many machines within the Heavy Class. This extreme offensive capability and tremendous maneuverability yields a potent drawback. The Mech is extremely vulnerable, unable to weather much damage at all. It's limbs, in particular, are prone to being blown entirely off.

Chao Zen's Mech - Designation Thanatos

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/images/a/a7/Thanatos.jpg
Specifications:
Manufacturer: StarCorps Industries
Model: TNS-4S
Class: Heavy
Height: 14 Meters
Weight: 75 tons
Jump Jets: Audi-Fokker Mark IV

History:
Designed as the Inner Sphere's answer to the OmniMech, the Thanatos is a powerful design and was once the pinnacle of Star League technology. While generally weak at long ranges the Thanatos design is extremely potent at intermediate and close rangers, boasting an impressive 20-rack of medium-range guided missiles and extremely accurate laser banks. While outdated by present standards the Thanatos is still the Roughrider's most powerful mech.

To Our Writers

About Mechs
Our first machines will be assigned by yours truly. They will be base models of older designs with lower-end technology installed inside their chassis. As we begin to finish combat missions and obtain new resources through salvage and attrition you can begin to make requests for updated technology or new mech chassis.

If you are unfamiliar with the types of Mechs available please make your inquiries with the following designations for preference:

1. Weight Class
Light, Medium, Heavy, Assault. Choose one. Light is the lightest. Assault is the heaviest.

2. Fighting Style
Run and Gun, Long Range, Up close and Nasty. Let me know so I can find mechs for you.

I'll respond via PM with suggestions and we can arrange for something together.

If you are denied a request right away -don't- feel slighted. I want our technology to gradually increase as we go and will not be allowing everyone to upgrade at the same time. One of you might get a new chassis, or new laser component, or new armor plating. But some of you might not. I'll be fair as I can be. If you feel slighted, or overlooked, just nudge me via PM and I'll make it better.

By the fifth mission everyone should be at a reasonable Tech Level and by the sixth everyone should have Mechs that they've requested.

And no. You don't have to change anything if you don't want to.

Damage
Damage to your Mech through battle or other means is almost entirely up to you. I do expect the following things to be considered.

Death From Above - This tactic involves a Mech triggering its jump jets and launching itself over an opponent. While this term has been used to describe leaping and firing on a Mech from the air, the true nature of this term is forged as a kamikaze maneuver where a Mech, typically a lighter mech, uses its jump jets to fall onto a heavier mech from an extreme altitude to disable it. This technique is EXTREMELY dangerous. A hit suffered in mid-air often means a rough landing. A rough landing in a Mech means a broken ankle or leg actuator and a crippled machine. Landing ontop of another mech generally disables both machines. There are many instances where Light or Medium Mech's have tried this maneuver on Assault Mechs only to have their machine disable and the Heavier Mech shrug off the impact.

Dodging - It's extremely difficult to do against higher-end Mechs. Clan-technology, in the hands of Clan Pilots, has come with advanced targeting suites that compensate for a pilot's attempts to evade shots. While dodging is impossible, changing a shot's location isn't. A critical skill of high-end pilots is the ability to present targets that are capable of absorbing damage or non-critical to the mech's operation. For example, when facing a volley from a heavier assault mech lighter mech's commonly sacrifice an arm to absorb volleys and defend the torso.

Cover - It's hard to find. Mech's are commonly 45-65 feet tall and weigh up to 100 tons. There's few places to hide.

Stealth - The Clans have it. We don't. Yet. Stealth armor reduces a Mech's Heat and Radar signature. It does not visually conceal the Mech.

Cold Lurk - A term used to describe a Mech Pilot powering down his machine in order to avoid the scanning mechanisms of incoming mech's. This technique is often used to set ambushes for scout mech's or small assault groups.

Disabling a Mech

There are two categories of disabled mechs. A destroyed mech and a disabled mech. The latter can be salvaged. The former cannot.

1. Destroyed Mech's have generally suffered so much damage that they are considered scrapped. Often this is because of two forms of critical failure. The first is called a Cook-Off, or Belly Buster. Both terms describe a phenomena where a Mech's internal ammunition detonates while inside the Mech. It is not an uncommon thing for older mech's to suffer Cook-Offs, particularly those carrying large missile platforms.

The more dangerous form of critical failure is a reactor failure. Critical reactor failures result in mini atomic explosions that can not only kill an ejecting pilot if he lands too close to the doomed machine but also cause critical damage to any machines within the blast radius. These explosions do not carry with them any radioactive fall-out.

2. Disabled Mechs.
A technique called Handi-Capping has gained popularity with Mercenary groups in the Inner Sphere. Using point-assault weapons such as lasers or auto-cannons, Pilots target the enemies ankles or knees in order to tip their mech over. Commonly this causes enemy pilots to eject in fear of being killed while they struggle to get their machine back on its feet. This technique is almost pointless against Clan Warriors. They have a notorious habit of self-destructing their fallen Mech's in order to avoid Clan Technology falling into INner Sphere hands.

Another Technique is called a Snipe, or Chip's Gambit. It involves a direct shot to the cockpit of a Mech, killing the pilot and preserving his machine. This technique is considered extremely difficult. A skilled pilot knows the subtle ways to defend his cockpit from enemy fire, including posturing, manners of movement, and angles of fire.

The last is almost exclusively reserved for the Heavy or Assault-Class Mechs. It involves using a heavy weapon, such as a Gauss Rifle, to knock a smaller machine off its feet. This technique is generally a temporary one. Experienced pilots would be able to get their machine back on its feet fairly quickly if its limbs are not severely damaged. Inexperienced pilots, however, have been known to panic and eject leaving a battered, but intact mech behind.

Ejecting
Most Mech's eject life-support Pods, not just the command chair of the machine. These pods will launch about 600-1400 feet in the air before parachuting back to the ground. Pods typically hold a battle rifle or submachine gun along with basic survival supplies. Mech Pilots are generally tough and the force of ejection is not beyond their threshold. It is, however, an uncomfortable experience.

For the purpose of our story we will assume that enemy pilots eject fully-sealed Pods while our pilots eject in their battered command chairs.

Light Ice, if you decide to add in some support characters (medic, mechanics, a cook etc. lol) as players instead of NPC's I'd love to know and apply! :)

If not have fun! It's going to be enjoyable following this one.

The more the merrier Caela. Why don't you post up a medic or mechanic for us?

For Everyone
She mentioned cooks. I feel it's important to bring up that the food we'll be eating are freeze-dried rations. They taste awful but they're filling and nutritious.

Let me know what you think Ice, it can be tweaked as needed. :) I made her kind of "shiny" compared to the Mech Pilots. You've all got the whole, broody, cynical thing down, thought the contrast might make for some fun but I can darken her up easily enough if you think it would work better.

Name: Dr. Brennan Deschenal
Age: 27
Appearance: View attachment 986954
Height: 5'4
Weight: 115
Job:Ship Medic

Background: Raised as a part of The Federated Suns, her parents were disappointed when she didn't choose to take on a military career and were only slightly mollified when she explained to them that someone needed to be there to patch up the returning Warriors. They'd wanted their daughter to be a pilot, they both were, but she chose her own path to being a doctor instead. It wasn't popular, they tried to talk her out of it, but they respected her all the more in the end for sticking to her guns and standing up to them.

Fresh out of training to be a field doctor for the Army she was the cheapest (ie: least experienced and most expendable) Trauma Doctor available for the Army to assign out to the rag tag crew that had been assembled for this particular mission. Unlike most of their equipment she wasn't broken down, she was green. Even being the cheapest they could assign, if they made it back alive (she wasn't really clear on that part) she'd be set up with enough money to cover the expenses of setting up shop on any world she wanted and to be all right for a few years besides...if she chose not to re-sign for another posting anyway.

Personality: Growing up around Pilots she considers herself pretty worldly but she's still shiny as a new penny in a lot of ways. Usually ready with a smile and a kind word, her life hasn't had the chance to beat her down and make her cynical. Willful and stubborn she can dig her heels in when she feels she's right or that someone is trying to take advantage of her. She's got a temper that flares easily but, usually, dissipates just as fast and she's not one to hold grudges.

Perfect, except the Army doesn't hire Medics. They train their own. Could you patch it so that instead of going into an active combat position when she joined the military she went through the field medic training and eventually advanced to a full-scale field doctor?

Sure thing!

ETA: Tweaked. Will post to the IC, thread later this evening if it looks good to you Ice.

Hey Light...do they have coffee? Please say they do...even if it's mud LoL!

I can't imagine any space-faring ship without coffee. I'm going to give that a definite yes.

oh crap... the OB (Order of Battle) is full. And here was I hoping for my character to be in a Marauder ( man I loved that Mech from the first moment I opened the Box WAAAAAAAY to many years ago ) FYI, I have played BattleTech from the time FASA first published the game.

If you ever get a vacancy, let me know please :)

Throw up a bio. But bring in some girls. We need to even the waters a bit. But I'm making an executive decision and stretching the roster to let you in.

One condition though, my friend. No Marauder for you. I called dibs. ;)

Can I get a Madcat?

How about not to start. Since we're all getting POS old-tech. But after a couple missions you sure can. You can even modify the load-out to something you favor. That sound alright?

LOL - I was stirring you buddy. When I get the bio up, hand over whatever, and we'll go from there.

Oh.... I am arm twisting a young lady to join with me :D

Great news. This cast has blown up way faster than I expected it to. I had thought finding eight would take a week. I've had so many requests and offers in that amount of time it's really tremendous. The caliber of the writers here is...

Well. It's way more than I could have hoped for.

Here we go. Straight off the top of my head. Let me know if anything needs reworking.

Name: Casey Smith
Age: 31
Height: 6'3
Weight: 240lbs
Job: MechWarrior

Background:
Casey Smith came from a long line of active military dating back to the 20th century at least. He underwent Mech training supervised by his family once he turned thirteen. When he went to join the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, luck was against him. The intake was full of gifted cadets, and he made enough errors to be bumped down the list enough to miss the cutoff. Dismayed, he joined the airmobile infantry, and became a scout.

After a few years of active service, he retested for admission into the Mech units, and this time got in. He served well as a mech pilot, until one raid that went bad. The CO of the unit got his position more through political connections than through skill and knowledge. When most of the raiding party were severly wounded or killed due to his incompetence, Casey was angry. When the man was cleared of any wrong doing and came out looking like he had done well under extreme circumstances, Casey walked up to him while in barracks, and made his CO smoke a loaded pistol. Casey turned himself over to the MPs straight away. He was sent to jail, never to be released.

When he was given the chance to serve in the Roughriders, he took it. If nothing else it would break the boredom of jail.

Liao Xue- Ying 廖雪(血)鷹

She glowers at M13 for all the arm twisting...

Alright. So I'm going to be MIA for this weekend, but if you're okay with waiting for my first post to turn up Monday... here is my bio. Many thanks to M13 for the technical details and Light Ice for the general understanding of this story.

Another note about her name, Liao is her last name, Xue-Ying is her first. If you want to shorten it, use Ying, not Xue. In Chinese, last name comes first. Saying it the other way around just sounds plain weird.

~~~~~*****~~~~~
Liao Xue-ying. 廖雪(血)鷹
雪(血)Xue , the sound can be translated two ways, one is snow the other is blood.
鷹Ying, is a predatory bird, generally a falcon.
http://fotosa.ru/stock_photo/ImageSource/p_2092175.jpg
Height: 5'4
Weight: 100
Age: 28
Bio:
From the House of Liao, Xue-Ying might have been considered good. Might've been one in a thousand. Except in a place where over-population meets a lack of resources, everyone wants to get out. And with 1200 planetary systems under the Capellan Confederation, being one in a thousand meant that there were at least a thousand others just like you and probably more that are better. She always saw herself as expendable. If she was able to make it this far, then someone else could as well.
Xue- Ying is notorious for death from above tactics. Nicknamed Ying, or falcon back on her home world for her kills from the sky - like that of a falcon coming down on her prey. Destructive in the force of her own maneuvers, but equally self destructive and reprimanded constantly for the lack of care for her own body. The bottom half of her body has been broken enough times that they know when the seasons change - that of a dull ache in her bones when a storm is about to blow in.
Xue Ying was a tinkerer. Not by training or trade, but by experimentation. The scrap yards provided her fodder to try, even though it was obsolete technology, it gave her an intuition and understanding she would not be able to afford under the circumstances of their poverty. She was eventually picked up as a mechanic and eventually tested as a pilot. She was pushed through the training program once she showed that she did well in the simulators.
Suddenly she found herself taken out of the barely hospitable poverty... and saw the life outside of what she'd always accepted as unchangeable. The strict military life was like heaven in comparison to where she'd come from. It was easy to relax and merge into such a place.... that is until she made a trip back home several years later. It was a brutal reminder of the social break between the fortunate and the unfortunate, something she had ignored. And when asked for help, it became something she now could no longer put aside.
Xue-Ying was arrested for treason after hijacking a supply freighter to deliver back home. She had stalled so her associates had a chance to get off-world, which led to her eventual disabling and capture.
