Yep. The first one was actually re-released through Steam to help promote the new one. There should be copies of the second one on eBay or similar sites. Doubt you'd ever find it in a store (couldn't find it anywhere in town at least).
 
I'll have to check those out then. Been a while since I saw a GOOD FPS game. And it'll be fun to see what they gave the Marines for gear.
 
Well I can't remember what was in AvP 1 or 2, but the new one gives them pulse rifles and a pistol when they spawn (no grenades for the rifle's launcher) and you can find shotguns, sniper rifles, flamethrowers and smartguns around the map. They've got their motion tracker, shoulder lamp and I think flares (can't remember; I haven't used the marine much in the demo).
 
the Pulse Rifle is probably the same thing as the standard issue Carbine used in the books. It's fun to read Wilks' description of them lol.

cut down? uh....the M4 assault rifle and M4A1 Carbine were replacements for the M16 and M16A1, respectively. The M16 is still in use in some places, but both models are being phased out for newer proprietary hardware such as the XM18, the MP7A1, and the P90. But I'm pretty sure there was an M41A assault weapon that is no longer in use. That's why most games don't give specific model numbers for weapons that don't exist yet. Take Resident Evil for example. All the weapons in every game up till 4 actually exist, and are identical to the models' appearance and capabilities in real life (the M100P for instance, is a semi-automatic version of the M950 assault handgun, a full-auto 100 round monster)
 
Well the only reason I know about the M4A1 was because of Counter-Strike. First time I played it; it was a modified version of the game with the real-world names for the weapons.

Anyway, while I'd love to continue this, I feel my brain shutting down and I don't stay up much later than this unless there's a particularly annoying forum idiot I want to tear a new one in (you'd be surprised how often they crop up on the Garry's Mod forums).

heh. I did a group thread on another forum where we were surviving the aftermath of zombies and genetically engineered monsters. we used real guns in it.

also, since no one's posting, I'm going to close out messengers, Firefox, and play FF6 for a while
