Hey there,

So I started writing erotic fiction short stories a few years ago, but I just got back into it with the idea that I could really pursue this/possibly create a compilation novel someday.

All I have now is my first "serious" story: a 4,000-word piece I completed over the holidays. From here, I'd like to get some feedback about exposure from those who know how to get their stuff out there:

- Is there a site where I can post the story and get substantive feedback, and perhaps some meaningful exposure?

- How "competitive" or hard-to-crack is the written erotica industry?

- I've been published many times as a mainstream journalist, so should I use my byline, or should I create a pen name?

Any other feedback you might have would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Casper, and welcome to Literotica and the AH. You can post it on Literotica, if you haven't already done so, and ask that question on the forum that asks for feedback. You should be able to get help from somebody, there or later on this forum. :)

A 4,000 word story is not particularly long. If it posted, you should include a link to it.

Sure. Polish the story as best you can and submit it to the story file here. Then, after it posts, request a reading and comments (giving a link to it) on the Story Feedback section of this forum.

Okay, it isn't posted yet. If and when you do submit it, here is a word of caution:

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, ASK THE QUESTION!!

:D Uhh...I'm almost scared to ask what "The Question" is. Or is that the question itself?

Am I being punk'd?

Yes, you are. You are being shown the garden path.

The answer to "the Question" is that it should take three to five days for your story to post once you've submitted it--and you shouldn't click on the "pending" button on your submissions page in the meantime, or the story will go back to the beginning of the wait.

Unless you submit it during a contest, such as the upcoming Valentine's Day Contest, and then it can take a bit longer. Although if it's entered in the contest, those entries post much sooner. ;)

Kind of, but in a strictly good-natured way. :) All authors ask, after submitting their first story, how long it takes to be approved. As sr71plt said, it usually takes three to five days if you copy and paste, unless there is a contest going on, which there isn't right now. :)

Mine post right on three days, contest or no contest. Very little variation over the past four years.

HI Casper,
I suspect that many of us here find that out about ourselves. A few hints about the site are perhaps in order. There's a section called "Loving Wives". Avoid it. The readers there are a bit---rabid? Anyway, Exhibitionist should get you some decent types commenting. We have a bit of trouble with trolls at times so if someone flames your story without saying anything constructive, just delete the asshole and don't take it at all seriously. We've all had them.
