Best book to movie adaption

The version I first read in high school didn't include it either. It was re-released when I was in grad school (1985-ish) with the chapter included. Easy to find in paperback. You should give it another look....Burgess writes better than I summarize. :)
No offense, but I'm sure that Burgess writes better than your summary, which was nonetheless an excellent summary. I'll have to chase down a version with that last chapter included.
You must mean the BBC miniseries. Hitchhiker has never, to date, been adapted for the big screen. Never, you hear me?! *sob* NEVER!
Heh. I assume you didn't care much for the movie then.
That is an inspirational film.

Everyone should watch it.
Especially to climbers.
For THGTTG that's a hammer to nail statement.
I suppose so. Sometimes the very obvious has to be posted.

i liked it, but only because i totally want to bone zoey.

but who doesn't?

a: gay men and straight women. also, hopefully her parents, but not her sister 'cuz that would be kinda hot.

know what? strike the kinda.

.

You know that opening scene in Cliffhanger where the woman falls and you watch her face all the way down? That's why I will never ever climb a fucking mountain. Well that and a paralyzing fear of heights. Seriously, I freeze up. Just can't do it.
Anyway...

Was Cliffhanger the Sylvester Stallone movie? There's a great line in that movie, when he burns the money on the top of the mountain....

you know what's sad? first thing i thought when i saw cliff hanger was between the lions. if you don't know what that is you are lucky and have obviously never lived with small children.

Oh, it's not that bad of a show. I mean for PBS.

One that I should mention (I don't think it's been mentioned yet in this thread) is Brokeback Mountain. The story is brilliant, but it is just a short story. The movie fleshed things out beautifully.

I don't know what it is, and I live with two small children. Three, if you count her occasional whining and pouting.

Hee hee, 'fleshed things out.'

Yes, I'm being very juvenile.

oh, yeah. no tv. fucking hippy.
We practically have TV at this point. The kids watch movies on the computer while they eat meals, and we watch movies at night sometimes. Plus, we just bought a nice TV for the first time in our grown-up lives. Movies look goooooood now.

But it's still just a movie-viewing device. No plans to order cable.

There was suprisingly little.

and they were wearing clothes. what the fuck, man?

the shows on pbs. it is actually bearable for a kid's show.

My gf's dad loves westerns and the only thing he knew about that movie was that it had cowboys in it. He was walking out and said he was going to the movies. After saying which movie she stopped him and explained it was a romance movie between two men and he freaked out. Not in a horrible way. He just couldnt believe they would make a gay cowboy movie.

Zoey is hot as fuck, indeed. I suspect even straight women and gay men want to bone her.

That scene was such amazing nonsense. Please don't judge climbing based on that. It would be like basing your idea of soldiers on Stripes.

I always tell climbing students that you're supposed to be afraid of heights. They can kill you. That's a healthy reaction to things that can kill you.

You wouldn't believe how much it costs to heat this place.

i didn't like any of the scifi crap, but if you go right to children of dune you just skipped over dune messiah, so don't do that. the book series goes dune, dune messiah, children of dune, god emperor of dune and then i stopped reading but i thinks it's heretics of dune followed by chapterhouse dune and that's all frank herbert wrote. everything else is his kid.

Thx. I knew there was a reason I stopped after the first. I read too many endless series. Maybe I'll pick up messiah and see if I become "reinterested". So many books, so little....nah..I got time. I'm just lazy:D

it's quite possible.

She has a sister? Sweet.

ever see bones? that chick. that's her sister.

the first four are good. this much i can guarantee.

Chapterhouse and Heretics really aren't too bad. The whole thing ends sorta suddenly though. You can tell he had more to write but the quality was going down and really it was starting to get old with all the Duncan Idahos. Seriously, Frank make up a new character or something.
Anyway, I like all the books he wrote. I read one by the kid and wanted him to die a painful death.

i just couldn't get into them. i think i was trying to read them all one after the other and that was a bad idea. i didn't even finish god emperor for years because i burnt out on it. when i finally finished it i was sad that i hadn't bothered before. it was pretty good. the last two i still don't know about because i just couldn't get through them and i will not read his kids stuff. you can not make me. cashing in on a dead writers series is a bad idea regardless of whether you're related to them or not.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT read the ones written by his son. They bring new levels of awfulness to literature.
