This thread is for anyone who has had their fill of sappy Holiday songs and needs a shot of something different. I have posted links to a few of my originals, which range from the offensive to the endearing (but depressing.) I would encourage others to post links to their favorite banned or otherwise insulting and outrageous holiday tunes.
Actually, since a couple of my songs are serious, I suppose we could include music that is not offensive, but let's try to think outside the gift-wrapped box. I swear, if I hear "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire," one more time (no offense to Tony Bennet) I might have to slit my wrists, but "Chet's nuts roasting on an open fire," would fit perfectly with the theme I envision here.
Shop Till You Drop - www.supload.com/listen?s=kJUzTf
(In the style of a Gregorian Chant - celebrating the misery of Holiday shopping.)
Kickin' On Christmas - www.supload.com/listen?s=MGlvuE
(Blues - written for my second ex-wife, who signed herself into a drug rehab joint over the holidays, some 20 years ago. The rehab plan didn't work, which is why she gets the "ex" title.)
Christmas Eve at the Factory - www.supload.com/listen?s=dNUXiq
(C&W/Pop - A blue collar view of seasonal altruism.)
Christmas in the Arroyo - www.supload.com/listen?s=wbrIWj
(C&W/Raggae - A cheerful look at the lives of the homeless during this joyous time of year. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Southwestern lingo, "arroyo" refers to a ravine or dry riverbed.)
Up in the Attic - www.supload.com/listen?s=gkP5Xw
(C&W - My favorite topic: dysfunctional relationships.)
Set a Place For Brian - www.supload.com/listen?s=6uGaZO
(Folk - Written in honor of an old friend who got himself shot on the streets of Reno two months after 9/11. I turned him into a firefighter in the song. He wasn't a firefighter, but he was one of the bravest dudes I've ever known - which is probably why he got shot.)
Happy Holidays
