"Ned... ahh there you are!" Angela Cooper said as she walked into Ned Bailey's corner office which sat on the Southeast side of the Pantington Building on the 27th floor.
Ned, who had been buried neck deep in the Franklin Conglomerate account, lifted his head up from the desktop and said, "Ahh... Mrs. Cooper. I was just finishing up the ..."
"I am sure that is all well and good. I got to talk to you about a couple of things." She said as she closed the door behind her before approaching his desk.
"Yes?" Ned said standing up as she drew closer.
"Listen, we have to make a few changes here at the firm." She said as she looked down at a clipboard she carried, "Do you know Brent Spenser? He was that guy to closed the Viking's account for HBSC. Well, he has had a falling out with his team over there...."
Ned laughed saying, "I heard he tried to push himself into the board. Man is arrogant and cocky and just vile."
"Yes, well I hired him and his assistant." She said as she added, "As a part of the deal, I am giving him your corner office. I am going to need you to move down to floor 26, anywhere in the cubicle farm is fine."
The news hit him like a ton of bricks. His jaw opened and closed a couple of times before saying, "Your... demoting me? I worked hard for this corner office Angie."
"I know and I feel bad about it but Brent is bringing over a $225 million dollar account with him so we have to have him to stay competitive." She said, "I knew you would understand. He will be here Monday so be out by then."
Before he could put in a counter argument, she had spun on her patent heels and walked out of his office and back to hers. She was the director of the firm and it was her call to make, but still, that was a low blow. Brent was already the laughing stock of the company. They knew he had a wife that cheated on him while he raised the kids from those cheatings. They team knew that he didn't have much of a spine when it came to standing up to people or saying no, so he was constantly bullied and manipulated into taking on more work that he could possibly handle to help the team that didn't care about him at all.
At least here in the corner office he had his privacy. They would have to come to his office to pick on him and bully him. Heading back down to the cubicle farm was like tossing a rooster into a pen full of wolves.
