Richard Todd the actor died yesterday.

He was best known for his role as Guy Gibson, commander of 617 Squadron in the film "The Dam Busters".

But he should also be remembered as one of the first British officers to land in France on D-Day 1944 as one of those who captured Pegasus Bridge. Much later he played the role of his own commander in the Pegasus Bridge episode in the film "The Longest Day".

I'll remember him as a genuine hero who played the role of heroes.

One of those rare cases of type-casting done right. RIP Richard.

They don't make 'em like they used to ( unfortunately).

Unfortunately an embarrassment to the current British government that hopes the need for heros will just go away if they avoid funding their own soldiers long enough.

Didn't he play Robin Hood on in the 50-60's?
I always like his style.
