Are there specific guidelines involved in choosing a category for a submission? I just submitted one to "Loving Wives" that could have easily fit in "Exhibitionist and Voyeur" or even some other category.

The author gets to choose the category in the first instance. The powers-that-be change it if they see fit. Then the author can appeal with an explanation. Then the powers-that-be decide.

Everyone knows that it is an unsatisfactory system, but with over 175,000 stories it would be a monumental task to re-categorise them, even simply using the Asstr codes.

Quote from FAQ:
I've noticed the stories are grouped into categories. How are these categories decided?

We group the stories into categories to make it easier for readers to find work and authors that interest them. Often, a story will contain elements from many categories. In that case, we'll place it where we feel it's the best fit. If you ever read a story that you feel has been miscategorized, Use the Report This Story feature to let us know, and we'll review it. We add a new category whenever we have enough stories that fit into it. If you have an idea for a new Literotica category, feel free to let us know!

Quote from FAQ:
How do I change the category, ... of my story or poem?
