Oftentimes, we are drawn to music for it's musicality, but there are other times when we are held captive by a piece of music for it's sentiment and lyrics.

Care to share those that really speak to you?

One of my favorite lyrics is from a Maroon 5 song, and whenever I hear it, I'm just in love with the song that much more.

The song is She Will Be Loved, and the lyric goes:

"It's not always rainbows and butterflies, it's compromise that moves us along. My heart is full and my door's always open. You come anytime you want."

I am currently in love with almost every word off of "Who Killed Amanda Palmer"
(by, of course, Amanda Palmer (of The Dresden Dolls))

Most fitting for this forum:

The decadence of giving in/to desire/creates such entrophy within
- Darren Hayes

I could probably quote most of his songs but that's a favourite.

elton john

I'm not the same as I used to be
All the things you've heard seem hard to believe
Haven't always been good, never really been bad
Most times I've been happy, yea sometimes I've been sad
Sure I've made mistakes, haven't we all
I've been loose as a cannon and dumb as a wall
Haven't always been sober in counting my ducks
And if I look back now I've had my share of luck

But the change didn't come over night
I've been searching for you all my life
All the habits that I couldn't handle
I've swept them under the rug
In exchange for the sweetest addiction
You, my elusive drug

I'm going to stay now, I really like it here
I may paint your picture, and I might grow a beard
There were times I was crazy couldn't handle my life
Don't think you'd have liked me not at any old price

But the change didn't come over night
I've been searching for you all my life
All the habits that I couldn't handle
I've swept them under the rug
In exchange for the sweetest addiction
You, my elusive drug

And I've taken the pills
I got burnt out and chilled by the cold
But I've no regrets and that being said
You know cheap thrills can get pretty old

Yeah, Yeah, oh Yeah

But the change didn't come over night
I've been searching for you all my life
All the habits that I couldn't handle
I've swept them under the rug
In exchange for the sweetest addiction
You, my elusive drug

In exchange for the sweetest addiction
You, my elusive drug

Fun for this forum but definitely good life advice in general:

Tim McGraw's How Bad Do You Want It?

There's always a price you pay no matter what you do,
if you're gonna climb that mountain to the top,
it always comes down to:

How bad do you want it?
How bad do you need it?
Are you eatin', sleepin', dreamin'
with that one thing on your mind?

How bad do you want it?
How bad do you need it?
Cuz' if you want it,
you've got to lay it all out
on the line.

Jimi Hendrix - Castles Made of Sand

He cries "Oh girl, you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?"
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green.

And so castles made of sand, fall in the sea, eventually.

A little Indian brave who before he was ten, played war games in
the woods with his Indian friends, and he built a dream that when he
grew up, he would be a fearless warrior Indian Chief.

Many moons passed and more the dream grew strong, until tomorrow
He would sing his first war song,
And fight his first battle, but something went wrong,
Suprise attack killed him in his sleep that night

And so castles made of sand, melts into the sea eventually.

There was a young girl, whose heart was a frown,
Because she was crippled for life, and couldn't speak a sound
And she wished and prayed she would stop living, so she decided to die.
She drew her wheel chair to the edge of the shore, and to her legs she smiled

"You won't hurt me no more."
But then a sight she'd never seen made her JUMP AND SAY
"Look, a golden winged ship is passing my way"
And it really didn't have to stop...it just kept on going.
And so castles made of sand slips into the sea,

there are so many things that we could have done
so many songs we left unsung
so many tales that we could have spun
but youth is wasted on the young

there are so many nights that have turned into dawn
so many landscapes so bleak and forlorn
and so many futures that now are long gone
and youth is wasted on the young

Blake Says by Amanda Palmer
Blake says no one ever really loved him
They just faked it to get money from the government
And Blake thinks angels grow when you plant angel dust
He shakes his pretty head
But darling, trust me, trust me
He's no valentine
Though he said he would be mine
His heart is in Alaska all the time

Blake stays underwater for the most part
He collects loose change for All Tomorrow's Parties
And when Blake dates girls with tattoos of the pyramids
He breaks their hearts
By saying it's not permanent
But in his velvet mind
He believes with all his might
We'll all go to Alaska when we die

Blake makes friends but only for a minute
He prefers the things he orders from the internet
And Blake's been having trouble with his head again
He takes his pills
But never takes his medicine
Like Candy in his prime
He likes his shirts to shine
And when it's two o'clock it feels like nine

Blake says he is sorry he got through to me
If it's ok he'll call right back and talk to the machine
Blake says it looks like acid rain today
He takes the fish inside
He's very kind that way
But just like Caroline
He doesn't seem to mind
The globe is getting warmer all the time

It's still cold in Alaska
It's still cold in Alaska

Pink Floyd - I Wish you Were Here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Dead Can Dance

The Trial

All my senses rebel
Under the scrutiny of their persistent gaze.
It took a lifetime to get here,
A journey I'll never make again.

For those who have accepted the burden of shame,
For the innocent only guilt will remain
And our lives will be forced to accomodate
The perpetrators of our own bastard race.

All my senses rebel
Under the scrutiny of their persistent gaze.
It took a lifetime to get here,
A journey I'll never make again.

I stand accused of thousand and one crimes,
A witness to events that led to this present time.
These traditions which bind our hands and keep us tied
Will never survive the greatest test of time.

Deliver me from those feverish eyes
That threaten to unbalance my state of mind,
For I must confess only to the smallest of crimes.
A sense of guilt. [

Wow, this is one of my fav quotes and I have it on my facebook as one of my quotes in life even...glad it touches other folks too.

Here is one of the songs that really touches my soul...
George Michael's - you have been loved..

"If I was weak, forgive me
But I was terrified
You brushed my eyes with angels wings, full of love
The kind that makes devils cry"

That is very cool.

I love song lyrics, especially if they're just snippets, or a chorus or even just a singular verse that just jump out of a song at you and you long to hear when you haven't heard that song in a while.

That's what makes a piece of music memorable to me. It evokes a feeling or a thought or a memory of something.

Good stuff. Thank you for sharing! :rose:

Reptile by Nine Inch Nails

She spread herself wide open to let the insects in
She leaves a trail of honey to show me where she's been
She has the blood of reptile just underneath her skin
Seeds from a thousand others drip down from within
Oh my beautiful liar
Oh my precious whore
My disease my infection
I am so impure
Devils speak of the ways in which she'll manifest
Angels bleed from the tainted touch of my caress
Need to contaminate to alleviate this loneliness
I now know the depths i reach are limitless
Oh my beautiful liar
Oh my precious whore
My disease my infection
I am so impure

"Life is beautiful
Life is wonderful
We're all children of
One big universe
So you don't have to be a chump."

Ben Folds, "There's Always Someone Cooler Than You"

Nice, I'm a huge Ben Folds fan.

An oldie, but a goodie:

"I don't want anybody else,
when I think about you
I touch myself"

"I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh all the things you do
Cause you were all yellow

I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
D'you know for you i bleed myself dry
For you i bleed myself dry"

I often think the lyrics to Amos Lee's "Long Line of Pain" suit me. Although they're not all pertinent (my dad isn't dead) they still ring pretty true.

I come from a long line of pain
My family suffered greatly for my gain.
And I think a lot about
How my daddy died so I would not live without.

And his heart lives in my song
The melody comes and just as quickly
The melody is gone.
I'm back alone.
Far from home.

"When I'm weak I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny"

Destiny-Zero 7

Don't be afraid to try again
Everyone goes south
Every now and then
You've done it why can't
Someone else?
You should know by now
You've been there yourself

Once I used to believe
I was such a great romancer
Then I came home to a woman
That I could not recognize
When I pressed her for a reason
She refused to even answer
It was then I felt the stranger
Kick me right between the eyes

Well we all fall in love
But we disregard the danger
Though we share so many secrets
There are some we never tell
Why were you so surprised
That you never saw the stranger
Did you ever let your lover see
The stranger in yourself?

Good old Billy Joel.

I absolutely love this lyric. I've repeated and sung it to myself about a million times. There are other Maroon 5 lyrics I love as well.

tap on my window, knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful
~She Will Be Loved

pushing forward and arching back
bring me closer to heart attack
say goodbye and just fly away
when you come back I have something to say

how does it feel to know you'll never be alone
when you get home
there must be someplace here that only you and I can go
so I can show you how I...feel...
~Sweetest Goodbye

cool these engines, calm these jets
I ask you how hot can it get
and as you wipe off beads of sweat
slowly you say, "I'm not there yet..."
~Secret

sweet kiwi, your juices dripping down my chin...

Breathe out
So I could breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you

If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

Foo Fighters - Everlong

Hold you in

Out of your head, out of my head I sang

If anything could ever be this good again

The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

love that , awesome choice .

I first heard this song by Jose Nunez in a virtual strip club in second life. I spent all day there.
=======================
The only aphrodisiac I need is your voice
Hearing you speak my name
Beckoning me to answer
Telling me you want me
So I tell you that you're the answer to every question I've ever had about love

Without words I use my tongue to tell the tale of us
Tracing your shadowscape
Kneeling before you my eyes feast upon your masculinity and
All its divinity and I praise you
Because all of that is for me

I begin to indulge myself of your delicacies
Digesting semi-sweet dark chocolate decadence as it melts
Dripping down my chin
Your taste is something Godiva couldn't re-create

Needing every atom of your anatomy
Necessity is placed upon me knowing you are the source of my serendipity
Dipping in and out of me stroking more than my consciesness
Subconsciously I find myself rewinding our love scenes
In my daydreams
Seeing that face you make when you're making me cum
And it makes me want you right there and then

Thinking of you in inappropriate places I get
Tingling sensations in private locations where I wish to be caught between a rock and your hard place

As wetness develops my legs begin to open and my spot turns to a backdraft and all I want you to do is extinguish it
You know my body like the back of your hands
And touch me and send me into ecstacy

My thighs quiver in anticipation of deep penetration which gets me high
Body rising
Sweating
Panting
Make-up melting
Pulling my hair and
Scratching my back
I get a temporary case of tourettes because all I can say are four letter words in a four octave-range screaming your name

Aye papi.... *English Translation of Spanish Lyrics* "You are so big and so hard, you give it to me so good, you are my mortal sin."

You fucking me makes me bilingual
You fucking me makes me bilingual
You fucking me makes me bilingual
You fucking me makes me bilingual
You fucking me makes me bilingual

I see your tongue pink between your lips and I want it between mine
And I struggle
As you lick torturing me
I try to get away but
Not really

Running out of room begging for more up against the wall that has been scuffed by my stilletos
Again
You pry apart my thighs and tell me to be still
And I willingly submit to you because I love the way you dominate me
Demanding that I cum for you so I do as I'm told

You've molded me so I'm good to no-one else but you
You've conquered this once orgasmicless world and multiplied it
Again and
Again

My face radiates with after-glow
My pillow scented by you
A fragrance which haunts me
My room smells of the best sex

Covered in body prints and finger prints and you above me
Your name written indelibly upon my body in your genetic history

You fucking me makes me bilingual
You fucking me makes me bilingual
You fucking me makes me bilingual

Within Temptation's 'Never-Ending Story' brings chills to me:

We're part of a story, part of a tale
We're all on this journey
No one is to stay
Where ever it's going
What is the way?
We're part of a story, part of a tale
Sometimes beautiful and sometimes insane
No one remembers how it began.
You can hear the song played live here.
