Not constitutional, but it worked through the period of the election, which was all it needed to do.

Mixed-race marriages were found to have this protection in the Jim Crow South, but they had laws saying otherwise in some places. So, they lynched. When people want to be assholes, they won't take no.

If most states recognize a marriage licence from any country as legitimate, why can't S-S couples come to Canada, get married and have the licence to show they deserve benefits under the law. In the case of Prop 8, it has been upheld by the State Supremes, but it has never gone before SCOTUS.

Gotta disagree with you there. Pedophilia has to do with the age of the victim and the legal idea that consent isn't possible below a certain age. Gay, straight or bisexual has to do with the genders of the pedophile and the victims.

It's not all the same and can't all be referred to in the same way.

Making gender go away isn't helpful in tracking or catching or treating this crime, I don't see how making it go away to aid in countering an invalid argument is helpful.

Lumping gays in with pedophiles is an ignorant thing. There's no point in making up new words, just enforcing the definitions of the words already in existence.

No one identifies themselves as pedophile when they apply for jobs with kids.

I cant recall one incident involving a lesbian and a kid, so no one has a problem with lesbians working with kids or fostering kids. But you gotta watch the guys becuz their stats arent flattering. And I say this knowing that some gay men have zero sexual interest in boys. My godfather was a gay man; he never bothered me, or my dad & uncle when they were boys. He was a nice old man with a kind heart. But he had no interest at all in my sister (I got toys and candy, she didnt), and my mom watched him closely, though she was fond of him.

The ratio of heterosexuals to homosexuals in the general population is apparently 20:1 (from same abstract), so if I understand correctly, a pedophile is roughly twice as likely to be homosexual as he is to be straight. Am I misunderstanding something?

Those are the results that JBJ culled from the internet. There is a tremendous amount of work that refutes the study he has found.

The one cited below is by Gregory M. Herek, Ph.D., from the University of California, Davis.

Dr. Carole Jenny and her colleagues reviewed 352 medical charts, representing all of the sexually abused children seen in the emergency room or child abuse clinic of a Denver children's hospital during a one-year period (from July 1, 1991 to June 30, 1992). The molester was a gay or lesbian adult in fewer than 1% in which an adult molester could be identified – only 2 of the 269 cases (Jenny et al., 1994).

In yet another approach to studying adult sexual attraction to children, some Canadian researchers observed how homosexual and heterosexual adult men responded to slides of males and females of various ages (child, pubescent, and mature adult). All of the research subjects were first screened to ensure that they preferred physically mature sexual partners. In some of the slides shown to subjects, the model was clothed; in others, he or she was nude. The slides were accompanied by audio recordings. The recordings paired with the nude models described an imaginary sexual interaction between the model and the subject. The recordings paired with the pictures of clothed models described the model engaging in neutral activities (e.g., swimming). To measure sexual arousal, changes in the subjects' penis volume were monitored while they watched the slides and listened to the audiotapes. The researchers found that homosexual males responded no more to male children than heterosexual males responded to female children (Freund et al., 1989).

Science cannot prove a negative. Thus, these studies do not prove that homosexual or bisexual males are no more likely than heterosexual males to molest children. However, each of them failed to prove the alternative hypothesis that homosexual males are more likely than heterosexual men to molest children or to be sexually attracted to children or adolescents....


...Conclusion

The empirical research does not show that gay or bisexual men are any more likely than heterosexual men to molest children. This is not to argue that homosexual and bisexual men never molest children. But there is no scientific basis for asserting that they are more likely than heterosexual men to do so. And, as explained above, many child molesters cannot be characterized as having an adult sexual orientation at all; they are fixated on children.

Not to counter or disprove any evidence presented here, but the point of the thread is a S-S relationship and not a single gay man. The stats are sure to follow, but Gay men who have found a partner and wish to settle into a "family lifestyle", aren't likely to get involved with young boys sexually. They are in a loving relationship and children just complete the setting for their need to be parents.
