Posting to Loving Wives

iIam a new author and have posted two stories to "Loving Wives", Welcoming the Fleet Home and Getting Reacquainted. For the most part I got good, constructive, feed back. Today I got an anonymous e-mail that was rude, made personal attacks, and was inaccurate as to the story parts quoted. It made me sick to my stomach it was so bad. I understand that there will be anonymous assholes that are just there to be rude. It was still very distressing.

My other concern is if I am posting my stories to the right topic. My stories are about a loving wife. Is that not what this section is about? Am I being naive?

Any constructive help is welcomed. Right now I feel like an amoeba in a very large pond.

Constructive Help - Don't post in Loving Wives unless you have good armour. You are actually fortunate you only had one asshole comment.

Welcome to the club; you and I aren't the only ones to experience it. That seems to be the category that draws the most vitriol, regardless of the nature of the "loving wives." Readers there seem to be carrying a lot of baggage; don't let them get you down. You might also try some of the other categories to avoid the trolls.

The first thing I posted in Loving Wives was about, of all things, a loving wife and her loving husband on their wedding night. I got no nasty comments but, since then, I have posted some of the more conventional LW stories. Basically, I get raked over the coals. This doesn't bother me as much as some people might think, becauase I write what I feel like writing.

What were your first LW stories about? If they were about loving couples, it's unlikely you will get any nasty comments. On the other hand, it they were about "slut wives and wimp husbands" you probably just dodged some bullets.

Loving Wives stories do really well if the Bitch is burned at the stake in the end and her wimpy-ass husband is butt fucked by the entire Dallas Cowboys Football team.

Those people over there have some deep seated and really fucked up emotional problems. Most of them have been cheated on, I think.

I wrote just one. It was about a couple that defeats a syndicate that competes at seducing otherwise loyal wives. I got a lot of positive comments but there were a couple that baffled me. For some unaccountable reason, there seems to be a portions of the LW fan base who loves to see the good guy get screwed over. One oddball even alleged that the tactics the hero used were somehow illegal. It's a strange bunch, for sure. If you are writing about truly loving couples, I'd suggest Romance or Erotic Coupling.

Yeah, a lot of the highest rated LW stories involve incredibly detailed, moderately sadistic revenge plots. Sometimes there isn't even much of a sex scene to speak of at all; there's a cheating "bitch" who needs to get what's coming to her, usually from a one dimensional, blandly "good" protagonist husband.

Sweet stories between actual loving husbands and wives tend to be politely ignored for the most part.

Funny you should ask. I'm doing an experiment by submitting an 11 chapter story to LW. With 7 out the scores hover between 3.70 and 4.03 and I'm pretty sure they'd get better scores in EC.

Anyway, some people love it and others give it a 0 because they hate something, like just the thought that she might be unfaithful in a later chapter. The thing is, everything happens within a loving, supportive relationship. I do like the extremely long emails critiquing and discussing the characters, motivations, etc...

There are definitely some conflicted folk reading that category and they don't have much tolerance for anything but their own script. In the future, you might want to look at the romance category, or erotic couplings. Good luck.

Haven't had any arguments in my comments...then again I've done Sci-Fi until the contest when I tried my hand at Taboo...no death threats yet. But some of the stories that have been here longer have interesting comment debates.

Well I posted to LW, because I thought it was a catagory about a wives that love their husband and vice versa. A committed couple can be sexy, and do just about anything that is written about here...they just do it to each other.

Actually it's not that. It's a free-for-all on cuckolding and unfaithfulness. It's probably good to read some stories in a category before posting there.

And, as I indicated, I don't really see much of a sensual story plot in a committed couple being sexy beyond those "slices of time" stories the chick lit authors like that don't really come from anywhere or go anywhere or Sacarin tablets. Maybe I'll go read your story to see if I think it's really a story. Not a criticism, certainly--before I've read it--I've just not seen anything much being a real story coming out of that set up.

At least you didn't have the cheating wife proclaiming her everlasting love for the man she is betraying. I was waiting for the selfish asshole who was poaching on another man's life to proclaim how much he really liked the poor shmuck he was doing his damndest to destroy.

Just another selfish, cheating wife story loudly proclaiming there is nothing to intimacy or marriage other than a particular act of sex.

Hmmm. Maybe we have a controlling husband, maybe not. All we do know is that this scum doesn't respect anyone being in a relationship. He is also just out there for the sex. It also appears Annie is just out there for sex. Is her husband good to her in other ways? If the husband is a real jerk, then she should divorce him and find someone else. As it is, I hope the husband catches them and gets the evidence not only to make the divorce stick, but to give his wife the shaft when it comes to dividing the assets. If the husband doesn't catch them, and he is not abusive then this is just another one of those cheating wives/wimpy husbands with no consequences. This site has more than enough of that crap.

I got one for the non-consent in it (which was mentioned in the disclaimer ) But other than that possitive so far. Then again I wimped out and did cousins, 'bout the same age.

My next one I'm jumping in the deep end...okay...not the really deep end...can't do parents and kids...just can't.

Can't do loving wives either. Sucks when a first time writer gets hauled over the coals like that though.

In a way I guess I was trying to tempt fate. The EC placement resulted in a sweet short story with a respectable rating but relatively few reads. I think the mention of the husband and wife in the description may have hurt me there.

Like it has been said, people don't want to read about the "boring" stuff.

It happened to me, too, with a story a while back, Carlotta. It's not you, it's that Loving Wives is a complete cesspit. The generally accepted theory is that a bunch of divorced husbands are lurking out there spewing bile at anyone they can. It's pretty ugly.

Post it in, oh, Romance or Erotic Couplings and you'll get MUCH better comments and ratings.
