Legit GLBT Stories

This is a serious topic but first, you guys want to here something funny? I was watching Heroes on Hulu last night when one of those 30 second commercials came on. This was an Alltel one, you may have seen it. There was this very beautiful boy in it talking to Chad about his family searching for ways to make money so they can pay their phone bill. The camera switches to his parents and sister searching the grass for anything of value and his mom finds a barrette or something and tells him 'Billy! I found you a new retainer!' So he then looks at her with a weird face and Chad says 'I wouldn't wear that..' At first I wasn't sure if he was a boy or girl but since his name was 'Billy,' must be a boy. I did a little internet search and come to find out his name is Bridger Zadina. He's only 14 but man he's mad cute. Turns out he actually played as a transgendered boy in an episode of Law & Order: SVU. I'm an enthusiast for anything related to femboys or gender identity disorder stories so I found the episode and started downloading immediately. It's Season 9 Episode 14 for anyone interested. This was definitely the most uncanny way to discover a new actor.

Anyway. On to what this thread is really about. Legitimate, meaning not porn, stories about anyone suffering from gender identity disorder, otherwise known as transgendered people. I'm not one of them but I have my reasons for wanting to know more about them. I currently have Transamerica, The Crying Game, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Boys Don't Cry. Honestly I haven't watched any one of them yet but I will. What are some other examples of TSG movies or TV specials such as the one mentioned above?

EDIT: Changed thread title to encompass a broader spectrum of the community. Any Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transsexual related stories [preferable in video format] are welcome. Just keep it legit, this isn't for porn and smut.

There was a good miniseries a while back called TransGeneration, it followed four teens/young adults, I believe two MTF and two FTM. I think you can get it on Netflix or it might be available online.

Orlando stars Tilda Swinton and is rather gender-bending...I don't think it's about actual GID but rather something where the "natural" state is in-between rather than either/or.

Soldier's Girl is depressing but it's a good movie. It's about a soldier who falls in love with a trans woman and ends up getting killed by his fellow soldiers for being gay/confused/whatever. Very sad but a good film. Based on a true story - look up Calpernia Addams.

Tipping the Velvet is more about lesbians than trans/GID issues but there is some majorly hot drag king stuff going on so I had to mention it. A very good BBC miniseries.

Umm...more if I think of it! Looking forward to seeing what others suggest.

I  Calpernia Addams, she's really funny. Her YouTube channel has kept me entertained for a while now. But that's all I thought she did, YouTube. Whenever she said "Hi! I'm Calpernia Addams. An actress in Hollywood." I thought she was joking. But if there's a real movie out there with her in it I'm definitely going to check it out. I like lesbian/gay movies too. Mysterious Skin was good and But I'm a Cheerleader was awesome, I've been meaning to watch Spider Lillies and obtaining more GLBT movies. Then there's anime and foreign films. In Japan lesbian romances are known as Yuri/Shoujo-Ai and gay romances are known as Yaoi/Shounen-Ai.

For Anime I can suggest some things.

Lesbian/Yuri

Strawberry Panic
: Aoi Nagisa transfers to a new Catholic girls only school and discovers a community of fellow students entwined in an intricate heirarchy, at the top of which sits the all important Etoile. In order to fit in, Nagisa must go to class, join clubs, and make new friends. Meanwhile, Shizuna Hanazono, the Etoile of the school, finds herself drawn to this new, exciting transfer student. As Shizuna and Nagisa get to know eachother, Shizuna finally decides it is time to face her troubled past.

Tactical Roar: In the near future the world's climate shifted creating in the Western Pacific a perpetual super cyclone: the Grand Roar that alterted the earth, flooding most countries. Shipping and navigation became important to nations and followed by the specter of ocean pirates thus necessisating companies to hire escort cruisers to safeguard their investments. Hyousuke Nagimiya is a system engineer that was comissioned to upgrade the Pascal Magi manned by an entire crew of women with its captain, Misaki Nanaha. Together the crew strives to prove themselves to their detractors that they are no mere 'Alice Brand'. Yet as they go about their mission a larger global conspiracy seems to be working behind the scenes to take advantage of this new world order.

Gay/Yaoi

Princess Princess: This is much less about gays and more about crossdressing. The undertones are there though. When beautiful Tooru transferred to an all-boys school, he received a warm welcome...but little did he know that his new classmates had nominated him for the academy's "Princess System." The lovely campus "Princesses" must dress as girls (in frilly Gothic Lolita costumes) at school events in order to lighten the stolid masculine atmosphere. Tooru balks at first, but soon comes to realize the advantages of being a "Princess."

Gravitation
: Shuichi Shindou wants to make a famous band. He works on his band, hoping to get a chance in the public eye, with nothing on his mind but his musical ambitions. One night as Shuichi writes song lyrics, his paper blows away, and a stranger picks it up. The man is Yuki, a famous romance novelist who tells Shuichi that his writing skills are grade school level. From that moment on, Shuichi is determined to find Yuki and have him explain his rudeness... he just doesn't realize that he's experienced love at first sight. When Shuichi finally finds Yuki, it's a journey of obstacles, frightening experiences and haunting pasts trying to keep them apart. But, it's just the gravitation of fate and love that always pulls these lovers back together everytime.

I haven't watched it yet but I came across a sort of spoof film, called Another Gay Sequel. There was a little sample video that came with and I watched it, it looks to be a film about gay men trying to score with other gay men in a comedic fashion. I admit the two guys in the sample were rather yummy but I wanna watch it for the comedic part, may be able to get him to watch with me, it's always fun to see his face after he realizes it's a gay film.

Whoa! I thought you were pulling my leg, but I looked up Strawberry Panic and there is a whole "Etoile" SYSTEM! That's too funny.

You know I have never been into anime, because I don't like the drawing style. If it was drawn differently it wouldn't bother me so much but then it wouldn't be anime either. It seems like there are really interesting stories out there though, I should probably check it out more, especially the yaoi/yuri. Are erotic anime shows also given those names, or is it only non-erotic?

IIRC Calpernia Addams is not in Soldier's Girl, but it wouldn't surprise me if she's been in other movies.

emap, won't the title kind of give away that it's a gay movie? LOL!

Anime is almost as broad as the movie industry. It has something for everything. The term for anime that's hardcore porn is called hentai, softcore is called ecchi. For examples I can't name one strictly lesbian hentai where there are no men involved. The closest thing that I have is called Lesbian Ward. It's a two part OVA about BDSM nurses and how they serve their patients as well as each other. For gay hentai I have Enzai, a two part OVA about a boy who's framed for murder and gets sent to prison. While not being raped he spends his time trying to find a way to prove his innocence. For transsexual hentai I have the three part Pico series, which is my personal favorite. It's about a young cross dressing boy and how he discovers the joys of gay sex. In part one, Boku no Pico, he's introduced to sex by an adult male friend. In part two, Pico x Chico, he meets a boy around his age, they become friends and things get intimate. In part three, Pico x Coco x Chico, they meet a new girl who turns out to be a boy in the big city. This episode is by far the most ridiculous, even for me because there's just too much sex in it. No one their age should have such a high sex drive. Things always get cheesy when a third person joins in. -.-

Back to being 'legit' I found some new Yuri anime the other day.

Candy Boy
: Yukino and Kanade Sakurai live together as high school students enjoying their daily life; until one day Sakuya Kamiyama confess her love for Kanade to Yukino, asking for her support. This makes Yukino to release her true feelings for her sister. OMG its incestuous lesbian love! And it's so clean, short and sweet you can actually watch the whole thing on YouTube.

ICE
: The year is 2012. Due to an environmental contaminant, the human population has been decimated, including all males, leaving only women behind. Facing extinction, some have decided to accept their doom and live to seek pleasure; others are still trying to use science to fight off that fate. In central Tokyo, one of the last inhabited areas in the world, these two groups face off in a struggle over a hidden sample of “ICE,” a substance that could save humanity.

Yami to Bōshi to Hon no Tabibito
: Eve is one of the caretakers of the Great Library, a repository containing all of the worlds in the universe within books. Each episode of "Yamibou" details another one of Eve's lives among the many worlds and follows the adventures of Hatsuki, Lilith, Gargantua and others in search of the girl whom they've known by different names.

It mostly depends on the Anime your watching, most of the older stuff is odd in they have huge eyes or sometimes it looks to be drawn by little kids, especially when it's a comedic anime and someone gets mad.

There are others however, where it's like watching a real movie that was copied by artists frame by frame. Akira is a very good example of that until the very end, Vampire Hunter D is the same way, minus at the very end part. Princess Mononoke is the same thing sorta, there are giant fantasy god/spirit thingys and the eyes a little larger than normal but overall well done.

Can't forget the american versions, Wall E springs to mind right away, along with Space Chimps, Inuyasha, which is a Japanese show but translated for us, Robotech, same deal though they seriously changed the entire story of the three shows they turned into Robotech. Next Avengers, I thought that was pretty good, about superheros or well their kids mostly.

There's one more I think you'd love, it's only in Japanese but i happened to find a subtitled version. I can't remember the name of it but it's about 4 friends in high school, their conversations are hilarious, they talk mostly food and games, some school related like homework and of course at the end there is a little talk back to the fans bit that's just so hilarious.

For the life of me I can't recall the name of it, or where I found the link to download it. I'll keep an eye out and see if I can find it again, and hope someone knows the name before I get too frustrated.

You wouldn't happen to mean Lucky Star would you? I love that show, the girls are so cute and funny. It was actually dubbed in English recently, I have that one too. :p Kagami FTW

Yeah that was it, and as far as I knew it was only a fansub but translated may be good, the karaoke at the end was pretty good not sure if it's as funny in English though. ;)

Oh yeah gorgeous moderator lady I can not let him see the title, one of those hunny you gotta come watch this with me after the title goes by.

Sometimes I wonder why he puts up with me, then I remember he does it to me so I do it again.

Bumping this old thread because I've come across some new stuff.

Phantom Memory Kurau: It is the year 2100, and on the colonised Moon, a project is under way to explore new aspects of energy. Amami Kurau is the daughter of the chief scientist on the project, and on her 12th birthday, she accompanies her father to the lab to observe the experiments. Then something goes awry, and Kurau is struck by twin bolts of light. In the aftermath, her father is dismayed to find that his daughter is no longer his daughter. Rather, her body is now home to two energy entities with fantastic powers.
Genres: action, drama, psychological, science fiction
Themes: Mecha

I've watched up to Episode 18 I really like this anime, it has a great story. Kurau [a bifauxnen] and Christmas have a beautiful yet subliminally sapphic relationship. They're like sisters to each other but the love between them is so strong [for plot reasons] I think its safe to call it lesbianicious.

Maria Holic: The story centers on a sophomore named Kanako who enrolls in all-girls school because she has a phobia of men and wants to find her destined yuri partner. She meets a captivating freshman named Mariya who fits her criteria — except her seemingly ideal mate happens to be a cross-dressing sadistic boy.
Genres: comedy, romance
Themes: crossdressing, shoujo-ai [girl x girl love], yuri [girl x girl fanservice]

Destiny of the Shrine Maiden: The highborn Himemiya Chikane is cool and aloof, the perfect young lady of good breeding. Kurusegawa Himeko is devoted to her, and secretly her friend. Their lives are undisturbed in their school, until an ancient evil suddenly rears its head. To combat it, Chikane and Himeko must take on the roles of shrine maidens of the Moon and Sun.
Genres: action, drama, magic, psychological, romance, supernatural
Themes: Mecha, yuri

Moonshine: A free text-based game with a touching, albeit very short story. It's about a guy who moves into the big city, starts working at a newhalf nightclub and befriends a transgendered boy. There's no sex or inappropriate content in there [unfortunately..] but the story may jerk a few tears.

Is that last one, Moonshine, safe to download? I've never used that site before but the title sounds interesting and I'd like to try it. Do you trust the site to be virus-free and stuff?

Does Transamerica fit into what you're after? I'm afraid that's the only contribution I have to the discussion, but it's a good film.

Yeah its safe, that's where I downloaded it from. The site has other text-based games on it too but Moonshine is the only one I played.

Sure, I don't see why not. Anything GLBT related is worth mentioning.

BTW Any of the anime I mentioned can be found for direct downloading by putting [MU] after the title when you google it.

IE: Kurau: Phantom Memory [MU]
[MU] stands for MegaUpload.
