Is the AH Forum a washout?

Look to the mote in your own eye. Call me the "problem" all you want to, but you'll just be revealing your hypocrisy. It takes two to be a problem.

I'm not in the least bit angry - please don't fool yourself that you have any kind of effect on me other than disgust. You've been a dick to me, to Sarahh, and to numerous others for the last few months, and now we're supposed to just look over that, and flirt with you????

Not in this lifetime.

So the problem is you and anyone who's opinion you don't like. Got it. :D

I'd rather flirt with a rattlesnake!

By my being a 'dick' to you and whoever means disagreeing with you, hell yes! I fucking hate self-righteous snobs and opinionated bullies and I put you and your 'numerous others' in both categories.

You're always saying how you're going where the 'smart people' are, then go and leave the rest of us lesser beings in peace. ;)

Are you planning on moderating? Of course not.

Quit whining, already.

I work and run a business, and take care of a aging parent I ain't got time to moderate If I even thought that one was nessicary and I don't... I wouldn't do it

why don't you or one of the other cry babies volunteer?

As if it would actually happen, I'd be willing to moderate, so long as it's contained to nothing but moving political threads/posts into the sub-forum. I'm not remotely willing to get into the morass of what different people consider hate speech.

Nope. That's not was posted.

You were whining that this would be a difficult thing to do, I asked you why that bothered you since you weren't going to be doing it anyway.

obviously you can't tell the difference between whining and discussion.

.1 I don't think it's nessecery
.2 If it is adopted it has to be fair
.3 I'm a poster on this forum and have a right to discussion

So much of the hate speech is in political threads anyway.

You all do realise that the board will slow down considerably... Not that it's a bad thing however!

What do we define as political for the purposes of an author's board ? Some of it is obvious. I'll miss trysail's antiwarming jeremiads... NOT! :D

There are some social issues that mean a lot to us because we are smut writers; censorship and gender issues, the "battle of the sexes" indecency laws.... I'm sure there are ones I haven't thought of that have to do with hetero folk as well.

Do we let those debates stay?

(ETA) Don't worry Austin8, you'll never be asked to shoulder the load.

I think that's why we need a moderator. I agree with the thread issues you mention being pertinent to us. I think political threads just pertain to Gov't reps. and Presidential faux pas' and anything that doesn't have anything to do with people in general.

*snicker*

Good points, Stella love.

I was wandering the Literotica boards, gnomeless and bored. then I found this place and I was a happy gnome again. I hung around for a while and contributed to a few threads, I even started one or two, then I got sucked in by the trolls!

Nasty beasts those trolls and any self respecting gnome would do well to steer clear of them, but as I'm only a youngster, (563 years old) I let their evil, weasel ways get the better of me and tried to reason with them. Eventually I saw the light and put them on ignore.

Since then I've felt much happier, I enjoy the repartee and the general fun of this board, there are some lovely and knowledgeable fairies and elves about, and I think I can learn a lot, though the political threads bypass me to a certain extent as I haven't a clue what they're on about.

If I could just persuade people to avoid the temptation to bolster their signatures with half a chapter and a large chunk of Amazon's back catalogue, I would be an ecstatic gnome indeed!

Trolls? What trolls?

I would say add "Fundie" to the list. I know I used it in that particular thread, and I'm sorry I did. Someone else commented that it was, for lack of wishing to go look it up; offensive. It is.

I also would add the following to censored words:
raghead
queer/ or whatever words are used in written assult of other posters of a different sexual orientation.
n*gger and any form therein.
Pretty much, any word that a certain poo flinging monkey poster uses to verbally assault in writing; others of different color, nationality, or sexual orientation should be on the list. They are not just offensive. They are bigoted and racist.

I have signatures turned off in my profile preferences. If I need to see someone's profile, I can click on their avatar. :)

"queer" is how I describe myself, but as a writer I can always come up with an alternate descriptive ;)

If JBJ's poo posts were removed by a moderator, the remaining posts would be worth reading.

I don't think we are going to be able to classify threads we do not want by a list of "censored" words since the FAQ clearly states the site owners believe in Free Speech and do not believe in censorship. However, I think if a thread is started that is clearly hate speech, etc, then it can be classified as Off-Topic to this forum and moved to the GB. That is what we have to decide. What is off-topic? What do we want moved to another forum?

Do we need a separate thread for just this discussion?

Case by case, if it was up to me, weighed by the number of complaints about the thread or posts contained within. If enough people are screaming, something that doesn't even strike me as political would end up in the dungeon. It's not as if it's being eliminated -- just moved. It can be moved back just as easily as it was moved away. Gives lots of room for benefit of the doubt.

It was never my intention to insult anyone, I guess in my growing old age I was indulging in a bit of nostalgia. It's what us oldies do. Go on forever about the old days. Ask my sons. And my wife. ;)

It just seems to me that we never seem to laugh here on Lit any more....it's not a crime to remember old times and old, absent friends, with affection. We all do it, here or out in the real world.

I'll do my best to stop behaving like an ageing arse.

Sorry.

~Auntie~

I understand the reminiscing, but its not just your comments that would dishearten someone to want to join into a conversation.

The basic "I miss so and so" and "there are no intelligent people on the AH any more" are the ones that I'm referring to, and as I said, not just from you.

Reminiscing is fine and I appreciate that you (and others) miss some of the people who used to frequent here, but for a thread of this nature to have grown in such a short time with many of the posts being stated as I've indicated above, it makes us "newbies" not want to venture here for fear of being compared to the "intelligent" people of days gone by.

Let's put it this way;

If we do not restore the atmosphere of civility that has characterised the AH until recently, newbies may think that dumbshit is the order of the day, and might not ever bloom, spread their wings and display their intelligence, wit and social grace.

:rose:

Here's a good example:

Consider this a not very subtle hint from non-America. And congratulations to the Obamas and their supporters.

The second sentence, even if filled with :D:rose::kiss::heart::eek::nana: and exclamation points isn't political. It's no different than if your favorite author had won for literature.

The first sentence makes it a political thread from the OP. Off to the dungeon it goes.

If it was just the second sentence, I'd be more inclined to send those turning it political to the dungeon, leaving the original thread intact ( assuming the forum software has the necessary split/merge capability.

That's why I edited that one. I too have used "queer" to describe myself when I thought I was only a lesbian and not bisexual. I just didn't have the heart to go look up what actual words he has used.

I dunno. 'Limbaugh' sounds vaugely German.
