Is the AH Forum a washout?

Everyone wants to remember the "old days" as they WANT to remember them. What? Red and white striped blazers and straw boaters, spats and pegged pants for the men? Frilly, ankle length dresses and ruffled parasoles for the ladies? Dream on. Those days never existed except in the movies.

Same with your "old days," Sara. What you have is a perception that was out grown. Then add to that a dozen or so who feed on injecting politics into the discussion and you have what you have now.

In some ways I don't blame anyone for their political views these days. These are scary times. The country is divided and becoming more so under a cynical administration that things losing only half a million jobs in one month is an improvement.

But I disagree that these people are entirely wrong. Like I said, this is a scary world right now and for the next few years. I won't go into all the bad things going on, those have been pretty much covered by the various threads. But I will not deny anyone the right to express their opinions on the issues. The problem has never been the expression of opinions. The problem has been the many pages of rebuttle, driving every issue into the ground. Express your opinion. Then others will give opposing points of view. What we don't need is the name-calling and viscious attacks that have been going on.,

Frankly, the game threads are BORING. The "coffee social" threads give me a pain in the ass. Both have been going on forever and have nothing much to say other than, "I'm still here."

If you stop and think about it, Sara, my friend, this thread isn't much different than the others you are ranting about. You have good intensions and I agree with what you say, but rather than rant, what would you do about it?

No. They only remove spam and the like. The rest is purely free speech, or at least it's supposed to be.

And I disagree. Politics have been discussed before. The rhetoric flew hot and heavy before Bush was elected for his second term. It was miserable around here for a couple of months, then it got better. I think most of us expected things to be the same after this election, especially the AH members who are not U.S. citizens. How sick they must be of our constant bickering.

Ah, yes, but here's the difference. Most of what is flying around here on this threads is opinion, not fact, and when people attempt to discuss, the insults fly. People are entitled to their opinion, but when others try to inject facts into the discussion they are ridiculed.

Again, I disagree. This thread is hardly akin to the numerous political "All Liberals Are Stupid" threads that abound. Hate speech is hate speech.

What can I do to fix it? Be retired and post ten hours a day, I suppose. It will take a great deal of effort to fill the AH with positive threads to counteract all of the negative spewage.
