My humble suggestion is simply that Lit may be coloring the experience of readers by presenting a niche ad in an unrelated story. The ad in question basically says "It's okay, she's only my stepdaughter".

I realize that Lit needs to make money by selling ads. I am a died-in-the-wool capitalist and I know that web sites take money to run. However, I question the desirability of putting niche (dare I say possibly socially frowned apon niche) ads above stories that have no tags related to it.

Before authors of that type of story get up in arms, I have no desire to censor people writing or reading any story (provided everyone's of a legal age). I even realize that the actors in the advertised product are not even related in that way.

I just want to know if authors feel that ads might color a reader's view of a story before they've even read the first line. How do other authors feel about this?

Thanks

What's a "neiche"? (Am I always the last to hear about a newfangled thang?)

You answered your own question in there. Until you are willing to pay for use of the Web site, you really have no kick what advertisers they have to take to pay for your free use.

I have absolutely no negative thoughts about the ads that appear with my dirty stories. After all, the site is free, and is kept in operation by selling those ads. People reading a story I wrote about some guy fucking his daughter might be interested in movies about the same subject, so it makes sense.

I do a bit strange when a poem about my sweet little granddaughter is surrounded by ads for porn, but not strange enough to stop posting them.

So sr71plt your position is that it doesn't matter what writers think? That seems kind of counter-productive when the site needs writers to draw people to the ads.

I see that my spelling of 'niche' leaves something to be desired. My apologies.

If the tags are related then it makes sense to expect to see the ad (or at least not be offended by it). An ad for incest videos (technicalities of defintiion aside) above your granddaughter's poem might sour a reader on your poem. Guilt by association and all that.

Maybe I'm just overthinking Literotica.

It's simple, Bit. You write stories, Lit posts them free of charge to you and the readers. They advertize porn movies for VOD. The two are unrelated and in all good conscience, you should be grateful they are trying to attract more readers to the site. More readers, more chances to see if your work is worth moving up to writing for profit. This is just for amateurs, like myself, and all the exposure you get is from Lit. drawing in a membership based on everything they can throw at the public to get them in here, instead of somewhere else. The ads have no relation to your story what so ever and the readers are generally smart enough to know that.

My "position" is that the Web site should pay considerable attention to the authors giving it its product, yes. That doesn't have much to do with reality around here, though.

We are the knights who say "Neiche!"
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Those would be obstinate German knights, I take it?

On the advertising on this site, I only mention it when posters go all indignant at the observation that this is a porn site. Of course it is; the ads define it.

I noticed, which is one reason why I decided to, as srplt points out, pay my own way on the internet. But I have excessively delicate sensibilities. ;)

I do have one suggestion which will not take the ads away from the site but will take them away from your sight if they totally bother you; Use Firefox as your browser and add the AdBlock Plus plugin.
:)

I never cared about ads that can be scrolled away from. The only ads the bug me are the ones on YouTube that play before the video that you want to see.

FWIW, I see the ads, but they seem much tamer actually than some of the stories I've seen.

Which, of course, is a good thing, right?

That's basically my response; I try to make the smut I post here hotter than the smut the ads promise.
